“Welcome to my art studio. It’s just a desk next to my refridgerator.” How is this the most honest, real-life thing I’ve heard an artist say yet the art space still stay so romanticised! You’re amazing x

I love finding other artists who do art in small spaces. I share an apartment with 2 others. We each have a 10x12foot bedroom, and then share a 12x20foot kitchenette and tiny bathroom. There isn't any dinning room or living room and no closests. My bed and computer fill up the entire bedroom with a 1foot wide space between. So there is no room for me to even have a desk. I keep all my art supplies in a 2foot Rubbermaid tub at the end of my bed, and I do my drawing and painting while sitting on my bed with a lap easel on my lap. And I just have such a hard time finding other small space artists. It seems like everyone on KZbin has got a huge dedicated room that has more art supplies then a big box store, lol! It's just nice to see people who do art in regular normal small spaces like the average person has. I love video.

For years I made art in college dorm rooms and similar situations so I totally get it! I used to use a walk in closet as my desk space 😅 It felt like a huge upgrade when we moved to this apartment, I want to make a studio tour vid of how I fit everything because it’s at a pretty nice place at this point! Thank you and I’m glad you liked the video!

One year later here my contribution to the arguing: After buying lots of different kinds of art materials, cheap, middle and fine art materials, I must say people who say that art materials quality do not matter ARE LYING to your face! Not all cheap art materials are bad, no, but if you want to enjoy the art process, if you are an artists at any stage, if you want to have good results, etc. YOU MUST BUY EXPENSIVE; QUALITY ART MATERiALS. If they tell you otherwise, they do not want you to THRIVE IN ART, they also do not want your art to STAND OUT, bc the low quality in the long run, will have an impact on your ART, not only in your experience while making it, but in the final product. I was naive to this fact for so many years, bc an artists gifted me some of his art materials, so, I was having a decent experience, it was years later when these run out and I started to buy and art stores started to trick me with cheap material and youtubers LiED so hugely about art materials and art material brands make no more quality materials, or they are way too expensive, then I realized what a treasure I had, bc even the cheap art materials I got gifted, were the real thing and not the fake mayonesa that now days come in tubes. When youtubers 🤥 say, “ but, you do not need this material” THEY ARE LYING TO YOU BIG TIME.

My current favorite art supply is the angora opaque watercolors. They are a student grade paint that is super cheap but so fun to work with! I think its freeing because I don't worry about wasting my expensive artist grade paint and it allows me to explore more... I also use a super cheap arteza watercolor sketchbook with them. My "hot takes": I haaate Tombows and Posca pens. I have two full packs of Tombows and one pack of Poscas that I haven't ever been able to get to work with me. They mostly sit unused in my art supplies in the very back. As for the brushes, I mostly do a lot of smaller detailed work in both acrylic and watercolor and good brushes are my bread and butter. I have both cheap brushes and slightly more expensive brushes in my collection. If you care for your brushes well, they should last you a very long time. I've had many of mine for almost 10 years and they look brand new, you'd never know they were well used. I'm a little obsessive about my art materials care though. The cheaper ones I've replaced with more expensive versions should I see that I really use that style. If I don't use that style much, I keep that cheap version till it poops out. My advice to newbies about brushes: start with a cheaper brand in a variety of styles and as you get to know what your really like/ use, graduate to a good brand once those poop out. This will also help you create and adhere to a system of proper upkeep. I hope that didn't sound mean, I don't mean that to. I just wanna let others know some options that may just be coming into the art game. I had the luxury of growing up in an artist family and go to art school. This knowledge was passed down to me much like family recipes are 😁 I'm just sharing the wealth. Now, I LOVE my NeoColor crayons. I do a lot of mixed media work and these have been so much fun both in my art and in my planners to get a little quick color in. I'd like to try those Stabilo crayon pencils. I just found your channel and I love it!! Thank you so much for the much needed art content. There isn't much actual art being done anymore on some of my fav art KZbinrs vids and I'm not at all into "packing" and "cleaning" vids so I don't come around Art KZbin much anymore. This is a breath of fresh air! Thanks for sharing 🥰

Wow lots of good info in this comment! I agree with your brush strategy, I think that could also inform which brushes you use more frequently and which you might want to double up on. Michael’s has some good cheap packs that have basically every shape & that seems like a good place to start! And thank you so much! Hopefully I’ll be making more valuable art content in the future! Here comes the arguing, lol. I bought a small set of pastel woodies, well, I do not use them, they have a cheap shin after very little, I like Luminance or even a cheap watercolor pastel stick if I want something chunky crayon-like, bc the woodies are not delivering what I want to see. Maybe in darker colors they are fun to draw with. For cheap very smooth children‘s color pencil, I rather the Trilino, they are made in Germany and they have nice colors and art cheaaaaap, also thick and triangular bodies, very fatty and go on top of everything, like Luminance do, but for one tenth of the price, literally.

Truly my favorite art supplies of this year have been the Koh-I-Noor *Mechanical* Magic pencil with 5.6mm chunky multicolor lead, the Pilot Parallel calligraphy pens of varying sizes, and finally trying out some Acrylic Gouache (only tried Holbein so far). Honorable mention is making my own travel watercolor palette with Holbein watercolors using an old mint tin as the pan which has been cute and fun tbh. It's been the year of Holbein for me but I really haven't compared any other brands yet!

If you don’t like the very uniform line weight of the pigma micron or if you happen to be heavy handed and break fineliners too quickly, I HIGHLY suggest the plastic nib pigma micron (PN). You can squeeze some nice subtle line variation out of it (especially if you draw small) and it’s unbreakable. I thought I hated fineliners until I bought that one. I think the reason it’s less popular is that it only comes in one nib size!

No, @ritawilbur7343,I'm a bigger art supply "hoouuurr" especially Caran d'ache neocolor 2. Neocolor 1s are great too, non-water soluble waxy, bleandable but no oily rub-off. Everybody try them. Come in sets only-no open stock. Something else I found is the quick dry sticks (called tempera by some companies). They are h2o soluble and rub bendable before they dry. Marketed for up-tight parents who don't want to deal with the mess of paints or have their kids have a little freedom or fun. Bought the king art brand but so many brands. They are smushy and glide so well. (my feeble atempt to argue with you)
