Great selection! Finding new pieces by Lully is pretty challenging due to the scarcity of recordings, and the fact that he really is very underrated...

Leonardo, Michelangelo, Gallilei, Macchiavelli ..... you name it ! ein Gebiet ungefähr so groß wie Niederösterreich......

@@richard_tomlin No way this is French music. Every note is Italian. The French were not capable of such music in the seventeenth century. That is why Louis XIV had to go all the way to Italy to bring in an Italian: Giambattista Lugli. Not even in the eighteenth century could the French produce such music. And Rousseau said so in the strongest terms. Rameau, the most celebrated eighteenth century French composer, confessed to a priest when he was about 60 that if he could start over he would move to Naples and compose in the manner of Pergolesi. You can't make this stuff up. Read the sources in the original. Also listen to the phenomenal and until recently totally neglected Caldara. Sounds exactly like the earlier Lugli. Same melodic tonality. As unmistakable as a finger print. Italian all the way. I wish that the French were more grateful for allowing to such beautiful Italian music to be heard in France. Louis XIV certainly was.

Handel was influenced by Lully. Lully practically created the French baroque music.
