What a privilege it is to be able to watch this! A million words could not describe Linda Elder’s vocal gymnastics and strength combined with how easy she makes it look and how much fun she has. Just amazing, no one can even begin to compare!

There is nothing I find more exhilarating than watching/listening to somebody on the top of their game do what they do best. Linda Eder knocked this out of the park. I mean I have never heard that song performed better.

I saw Linda last night at 54 Below (Michael Feinstein's NYC Cabaret). She closed the show with her iconic rendition of this piece. She was true to form and still hit the high notes at the end of this piece without any effort. What an amazing talent and a beautiful human being! Love you, Linda!

You’re absolutely right! I come back to this video again and again as an example of true vocal power. Katie Perry isn’t HORRIBLE, she actually has quite a bit of vocal power, but she hasn’t displayed this kind of power, not at least in the performances I’ve seen.

@@samuelm.5752 I'm glad you think so. I saw Marian Carey at Caesar's Palace about 4 years ago, when she supposedly "hit" the high notes, they were pre-recorded. That is, she wasn't always singing live. I'm sure someone of your vast knowledge already knows this.

Actually there is someone in Hawaii, who has also sung on Broadway, that I'd say can do it ever so slightly better. Although I think she got her performance inspiration from Linda Eder. I think this performance is even better than the one on the album. On the album, on the high note part right before she goes up the octave she takes a breathe. In this live performance, NO BREATHE! It makes it even more spectacular and impressive. Her breathe control is outstanding!

Actually there is someone in Hawaii, a contemporary of Linda's who has also sung on Broadway, that I would say is pretty much equal to her ability. Just saw Linda Eder at a small college outside of Oklahoma City and she sang this with a 3 piece band and Yes she still hit all of those notes, she is a remarkable talent. Its spellbinding to watch live.

The beautiful and magnificent Linda Eder. This is one of those iconic videos a musical lover will come back to over and over. I was in the play Man of La Mancha and I never got tired of the repetitive performances; the production was so rich in soul and meaning, it literally brought me to tears everytime as we sang The Impossible Dream in the finale. It was about hope, purity, and meaning. It made you look to God. It was just exhilarating and Linda performs this song with the meaning, power, and passion the songwriter meant it to be.

I was given a CD by a friend with this show. When I listened to this. I was paralyzed. I remember afterwards running to call my husband saying 'you've got to watch this'. I have come back here to this video countless times through the years. I am still amazed EVERY time. How did she do this?

I had the privilege of seeing Linda Eder perform live once when I was in college, and I think the feeling was similar to what my dad says seeing Jennifer Holliday in the original Dreamgirls was like. Though at the same time, when he saw Jennifer Holliday on my DVD of this performance, he said he thought the performance was more...”ornamented” than he remembered, and that he thought that the performance he saw showed off her raw power better.

I've listened to the fantasic, gorgeous Linda sing this many times and still cannot figure out how on earth she does that magical thing: she sings a note (at 2 minutes) that is one octave and without doing anything, it becomes an octave higher. Just can't figure out how she does it! Anyone else notice this remarkable phenomenon? LOVE HER VOICE!!! Beautiful woman, too. I am off to look for her CDs and buy some!

She's a great vocalist, but she's not as good as Streisand. She pushes at parts, which Streisand never did. Similar to Whitney in her prime, those two singers were effortlessly, supremely talented.

There are a few songs where she sounds a tad like Streisand. "Why Do People Fall In Love" is one of the most similar. But Linda is effortless. You THINK she's pushing. She's not, no more than Garland did. It's a type of vocalization, and no one, even Streisand can hold a power note like Eder. No one.

I actually changed my mind after I watched some of her other videos, most notably bring on the men in '99. I still content she's not as effortless as Streisand, but she's supremely talented. Here her voice isn't in its prime either, in that 99 version of 'Bring on the Men' she's amazing, effortless, with power and control. I'd put in the same group as Whitney and Streisand, a group I don't put many pop vocalists in, including Mariah or Celine.
