You know, I've had a close look at all these bikes and they display terrible decoration style. The 200 dollar bike gets all It's ornament style perfect. The style is well thought out and its all across the 200 dollar bike. Young people should get a great bicycle if they buy into it and maintain it till they're able to understand it.

Loved your answer at the beginning. My parents met at the bike club in my town. So yes, biking is a tried and true method for dating, but not if you are just trying to show off your expensive bike. Case in point: my dad was riding a cheap trek 800. Although it soon thereafter it was upgraded to a custom Ritchey road bike, which was indeed a cool bike. And it is now my cool bike.

I love his answer about the vintage bike. I have an early/Mid 80's hand made lugged steel Trek frame that I converted into a single speed. I cannot tell you how much I love this bike. They just don't make em like that anymore. This bike is also where I developed my love for steel frames. It's super slender and light weight and perfect for flying through / bouncing around the city.

That big chain ring with the square cut outs is a really suffisticated design. To understand it you must see it in motion. In motion it seems to behave like a roll of movie film. It's playing the film of your bicycle riding life. It's a imaginative decoration style object. It's really clever design. Designs need to be viewed with the bicycle in motion.

All this bullshit, about witch stem, seat post etc. Doesn't mean a damn thing, we don't care! RIDE IT IF IT FEELS. GOOD. Been riding fixedgear for 14, years now, on average 30 km. a day in the streets of Copenhagen, the city of bicycles. Right now I ride a dolan pre cursa, aero track, omnium crank, and 105 shimano breaks (kill me if you want to, but where I live, this is not a toy, but my daily transportation.) Good bless the bike culture in Copenhagen, its not a trend, but how we live!

@daveyponderosa95493 жыл бұрын
@RollinRat BEAUTIFUL BUDDY...THAT IS AWESOMENESS. Now I’ll tell you this story. I was a licensed welder, stick, mug, flux and tig certified. I owned my own very small business. I shared space with a machinist, who was also a elite level road racer too. He does a lot of work doing....whatever pays the bills. That said, he does very small volume custom bike builds. I own my own mill and use his lathes from time to time as well. I do some work for him and he does some work for me. He’s shown me some brazing, sadly I still splatter a bit of brass or silver. Still getting a feel for it. Lol I too love the trails. Covid has kicked the tar out of my wallet recently so I’ve had to sell off some of my bikes. IE my cross bike and my hard tail XC. That was a bummer. Regretted it as soon as the cash was in my hand. Lol I have my fixed gear all rounder for work on the roads, winter riding etc etc. My road bike is a slack Reynolds 653 tig welded rig. I’ll be converting it into a Randonneur style bike, I’ll be brazing on the bosses for fenders, rack, pump and what not myself. My first attempt at doing non mechanical bike work. It’s such a comfortable bike that I can literally put a pin on a map and ride there. I’ll keep it until I can no longer pedal and require 4 cylinders for transportation. My buddy is building me a steep aggressive road racing bike out of the MAX Tubes. Eddy Merckx said it was some of the best steel to use. I’ll definitely take his word for it. Lol I will be building my own bike later this year too. The m thinking something similar to you too. A cross between a MONSTER CROSS/XC go anywhere type of bike. Hard tail of course. I’m so not prepared to attempt a full suspension rig anytime soon. And I’m going to do it with Reynolds 853. I can’t wait! I too would like to build some bikes. Not for sale to the public, more for close friends and family. I happen to love all bikes and all environments to ride them in. Actually just put down a deposit on a new track bike on Saturday. Getting myself my DREAM TRACK BIKE PINARELLO X TRACK for some Masters Level Broken Down Skinny Fat Guy Division racing. Ha Good on you Sir, you sound like my kind of people. I’d most definitely hoist a pint....or 3 with you to just chat bikes and tools buddy. Good luck to you. May you fulfill your dreams man. All the best. Stay safe during this time of Global Covid Craziness. Peace Dave from Toronto

Recommend older frames for first time builds just for skills ans knowledge youll Gain, first proper fixed gear was 1984 Raleigh Quasar which had Reynolds elliptical tubing and had some decent Sella and suntour parts on it already. Plus you can make some money selling the old parts on the ebay. I would say to look around late70s/early80s as standards start to fit into modern and easy to source parts such as 25.4/27.2mm seatposts, 68BSA BBs and also better brakes fitted. Id be more cautious of 60s and and 70s frames as some of them are products of the English/French cycling booms and have some awfully hard to source proprietary sizes for parts and sometimes (such as a Triumph 3 speed I had which had some weird Raleigh TPI shell which made changing the cottered cranks expensive Once you've decided fixed is your thing look for decent fixed producers but you don't have to look for track! Tracklocross is so hot right now

Hey Zach, we have a local frame builder here in the Philippines called Ave Maldea and he uses Hi-Tensile and Chromoly steel. I just want to ask if Hi-Tensile frame is a good steel material for a fixed gear bike?
@ascentbikes4 жыл бұрын
It'll do. High tensile steel is one of the weaker steels, meaning that a builder will need to use more if it for the same strength. Your frame will be heavier compared to cromoly as a result. However, IT IS STILL RIDEABLE! And most of the time, the weight of the frame can be compensated by other components.

@roguecode23544 жыл бұрын
I don't get why bike companies do not offer more colors. Does not seem like that big of a deal but it really is a big part of choosing what you ride. I agree purple is a really cool color on a bike, also my choice but not the entire thing more like the main color with other combinations.
@ascentbikes4 жыл бұрын
This, I can answer. Boils down to production runs and order quantities. Most bike companies, like my own, aren't as big as the mainstream brands like Trek or Giant. This is especially true for fixed gear, which is a niche. Usually, each paint color requires a minimum order quantity, and the more colours there are, the more frames a brand will need to order, as most factories aren't gonna drop their normal orders to help you make 10 purples. So, you're gonna have a huge order, which involves capital that most smaller brands can't afford to commit to.
@roguecode23544 жыл бұрын
@@ascentbikes That is understandable but I see this with even big brands and other things besides bikes too. I looked at the Wabi classic and it only came in 2 colors from what I can tell. Looked at a DosNoventa Detroit and it was only in pink. People will also wait for custom orders if it means they will get exactly what they are looking for then you can charge a "custom" fee. Same goes for parts, some companies have a variety of anodized aluminum parts that help accent things nicely, so they get the sale instead of the basic colors.
