I am an iPhone user, but i find Google Maps more easy and intuitive to use here in the EU. But I may give Apple Maps a chance next time I travel. Also, Google maps has this traffic view of the streets; sometimes, apple maps simply don't have any data...

I used to prefer Google Maps in US over Apple Maps, but then Apple improved significantly. Now I use both depending on what kind of info I need.

Maps on Apple Watch is one of my absolute favourite features of the device. It really comes into its own when you’re travelling, to never have to take out a map or your phone to navigate a city.

Or Verizon charges $100 for the month if it’s longer than 10 days but yeah, I know. My editor has T-Mobile and he doesn’t have to pay extra for his international data, it’s part of his normal plan 🤷‍♀️

@@BridgetCareyaloSIM is how we’re doing our Europe trip at the moment. Didn’t take long to learn the ropes of activating the different eSims when we crossed borders. Way way way cheaper. Just a tip! Love your stuff and hope you enjoyed Spain!

Glance at your Watch to check the turn - you don’t even need to do this, as the vibration is distinct between left and right and I believe also straight ahead (cross the road at a junction)

Another travel tip that has worked well for us - we plan everything in Apple Notes. We create a folder for our trip, and then have one note that is the Itinerary which then includes links to other notes with specific travel information. We keep info about our flight, links to locations, and just about everything else right in the Notes app. Works great because we can easily share info.

I traveled through Europe for 2 weeks last year and I was pleasantly surprised at how easily everything worked. The $10/day wireless was worth it for my group. One thing that I learned just in time: check with your carrier about cruises, as there are potentially huge charges while the ship is moving. Best to keep your phone in airplane mode while sailing and then take it off while docked.

Dont use a US carrier int data plan! Thats the worst option. Thats 10-12 dollars a day - 70/84 bucks for 7 days for data signal that wont be optimized. Just buy a local sim card, from Three, or Vodafone - I got 70gb of data for 15 GBP this summer 2024 in London (fyi - in the US it takes excessive use outside of wifi to hit 2gb of data usage) Three and Vodafone also allow you to spend what you want, more or less

One tip you probably should've learned is to never use a USB port to charge outside of your own devices. Always plug-in to an outlet or use a battery bank.

I have been doing this on Andriod for almost a decade using Google maps / travel planner. I can sit at my PC and plan the whole trip (restaurants to try, museums to see, land marks, signigicant to history locations, symphony, glass blowing, rock climbing, hiking and the list goes on since everything is on Google) which syncs to my phone and my wifes iPhone. Better maps with better translation with all the reviews one stop shop.

To use the airplane’s inflight entertainment system with your own headphones or earbuds you’ll need a Bluetooth adapter. If you have an AirPods Pro Max either the BT adapter or Apple’s bidirectional cable.

I recommend using a VPN because some countries block access to KZbin, Instagram, etc. Also, a VPN provides you with a more private/secure connection.

Thx. I’m fooling around with the check-in feature right now with my sister. I had no idea. And I downloaded the widget of the spare clock face to keep track of time at home when traveling. I did that on the World Clock before, but I think I’ll prefer a quick glance.

Regardless, I still wouldn't give every restaurant access into my phone just because I want to see their menu! Next thing you know, every store will lure you to scan a QR code in order to qualify for tempting discounts! It can be a potential flytrap from a cybersecurity perspective!

did you know that google maps on any android phones can work in any country without wifi, without data, provided you download all maps that are involved in your travel?! you can use it to track where you are, and what is better than an iphone is that google maps automatically adjusts whenever you take a wrong turn! this does not work like this in an iphone using apple maps which never adjusts whenever you take a wrong turn.

That is not true in all countries. Some countries prevent maps being downloaded for offline use.

10 dollars a day, i’d not pay. Instead get your phone unlocked by your carrier (or if it’s bought sim free you’re unlocked already), and get a prepaid SIM. CNET recommending a $10 per day data package to “save money” as a travel tip? 🤦

Not recommending it or saying it saves money, but just being honest about how I did it. Glad folks are jumping in with other ideas. I was on vacation so I did the quick easy thing.
