I love these videos! Keep 'em coming. I STILL have not read Lispector (mostly because I'm lazy), but I don't know how much longer I can hold after this.

So glad you're enjoying them! Not sure if it holds true in her later novels, but Lispector was definitely a challenge to keep up with--more a geyser-of-consciousness than a stream. I'll be curious to hear your thoughts once you've given her a try.

Holy crap!! This was so brilliant. I haven’t opened my massive Lispector book for fear I may not like it but now I am all in! I love this album, Bad Moon Rising and Evol. I loved the spookily ethereal Kim’s presence was on record. She was the epitome of the frozen cool NYC art chick and I was fascinated. Your take on those lyrics was spot on. Great take on the tag!!

Thank you so much! I love all the different vocal styles on SY albums, but Kim's are almost always my favorites, especially on their later albums like Sonic Nurse and Rather Ripped. Been curious to read her memoir, too, Girl in a Band. Lispector is definitely intense, but worth a try--fortunately her novels are fairly short, though they certainly pack a lot into a few pages.

Near to the Wild Heart was the first book I read this year, and it remains quite impressionable to me. I love the Russian doll comparison. I’d always find the book akin, musically-say-to the early angst of a Mitski album, eventually growing into the Pop power liberation of Mitski’s most recent album lol. I’m loving this video series for this tag Dan, looking forward to the next one

Mitski = The Truth, therefore a handy critical lens for any novel. It's Mitski's all the way down, man. I felt like I really had to catch my breath after Wild Heart--for my own health and safety, I've decided to ration out my Lispector consumption moving forward. So glad to hear you're enjoying the series, Alex! Strangely, I've been losing subscribers every time a new one of these videos posts, though this seems an odd time to jump ship given my far more questionable behavior in the past.
