Great video Eric, I got the briger 55 last year. Love it. I needed a new daypack, I found the mystery ranch Coulee 25 at Sierra trading post for 99 dollars. It rides just as good as the bridger and has the same shoulder harness adjustment. Carried as the gear you need for an early season day hike.

We have talked about this earlier.. light weight on one side.. some extra confort on the either side. My opinion about all chasing grams.. instead of doing that, chase some kilos of weights on the gym and you will be better prepared, physically, mentally, doesn’t get injured as easily and can carry a backpack and some items so you get a nice experience.

Always great to see a Mystery Ranch fan clue others in on the magic they make. I've used them for 20 years now and today, a year on from this video, I use the Radix line of lighter-weight backpacking packs they make. They run on average about a pound lighter and ten litres more in capacity for a given pack in the Bridger series. I own some of both and all are outstanding gear. Thanks Eric!

Nice to see they made a 45 liter version. I have the 55L and rarely fill it. My only wish was they chose better colors for the 45L. Offering the same colors as the 55L would have been cool. I guess the blue/grey isnt too bad but.. This 45L would make a great 3 season. Thanks for sharing! Hike on!!

I have the Bridger 55 and now the 35. The 35 is my day pack for hiking to mountain summits carrying HAM radio gear. Great comfortable packs.

I would love to see them offer a minimalist version of this pack with the same frame and materials but with a simple roll top design, no sleeping bag compartment, and some less straps and buckles. I love the load bearing ability and overall layout but they could cut some serious weight by making some tweaks.

After a life time of backpacking with my trusty Berghaus Vulcan 80ltr and Norrøna Falketind 55ltr, I moved to the Bridger 65 last Autum, and I love it. Just wow, Mystery Ranch nailed it. So, I got very exited that they are also out with the 35/45 ltr. I would not be surprised if a 35ltr finds its way to me. Even if it is a little hassel to get a hold of here in Norway. You found the harness to be comfortable and not awkward? That is my only hesitation at this point and I keep leaning to try the Coulee 50 with more of a traditional harness. I have a Pintler for hunting and love it so am looking for something a little different (not just the same tri zip in a bigger bag).

@@daveevans7151 I love this harness. Last weekend I carried 35kg in my pack, and it sat perfect. Earlier I have usualy carried around 10 to 15kg with my Bridger. This new yoke has made me have to change the way I pack my jacket. I am the type who has a lot of stuff in my jacket chest pockets, that I has had to change. But I love my Bridger and can live with the change. 😊

ive used the 55 as a perfect year round pack. ideally i only really need 50 but i like carrying an extra water bladder. most UL packs just dont feel durable and if im spending 300 bucks, it better last. 2 lbs extra isnt going to kill you. and for the life of me i dont know how people deal with a tube for a pack. with smaller bags, my camera equipment is on the outside because there isnt full or quick access. this looks perfect. and honestly, i love love those wide shoulder straps.

I agree that the double sternum harness is comfortable but only for the people who happen to fit it well. Since the height of the harness is attached to the yoke and rotates up as the yoke rotates down, the shorter people in the range will find the pockets on top of their shoulders. Perhaps a modular pocket system that holds it shape better. I also wish the zippers on the top loader and the sleeping bag compartment were more robust. I can see them wearing out in a life time of use.

I have the 45 as well. If you don’t feed the bottom straps through the molly it allowed me to strap down larger items. Love the videos! 👍🏻

I did the GR11 in Spain last year with the Durston 40L and found my shoulders and hips were getting sore with only 25lbs. I definitely want to try this pack out.

Mystery Ranch makes great gear, I own a military pack very heavy 8#. Never use it state side. But I really wish they would get with some of the new fabrics that are lighter. Take for instance all they need to do on this 45L pack is to shave a pound that could easily be done. But they seem stuck in the past.

Yeah ultimately carrying the extra fabric weight just means the backpack is gonna outlast your own body, especially if you make use of the extra load capacity it brings. Seems like a great winter backpack, or a good year round option for Forest Service personnel/etc or people who often push thru serious brush.

Mine just arrived about three hours ago. :) Transferring my stuff from my go-to pack (MR Scree 32) to the Bridger 35, I have to say I like the top lid pockets on the Scree 32 better. I like having two of them, and they seem more roomy (even though they're smaller) than the single one on the Bridger. Another group that this might be a really good pack for are those that do POTA or SOTA contests. Having that full opening would make it easy to get at your radio gear.

Thanks for the review! Have you experienced any creaking or squeaking noises emanating from the frame of the Bridger's you've tried? My Osprey Aether, which uses a similar wire frame system, makes a lot of noise at the bottom of the pack. There are some other people out there who have experienced similar problems with the wire frame system in their Osprey packs. The Bridger looks promising. But, I don't want to have to deal with unnecessary noise.

Great video content on the Bridger, 45L looking at the PCT for a through hike. Currently opting for light wt/tent Durston X med Pro and Katabatic gear 22 degree quilt, with that said the wt saving with the other 2 items will allow me to have a extra 2lbs pack for comfort on for the long term of the daily miles over 4 1/2 months. Great video and very helpful for me, especially I’m struggling choosing over MR Bridger and Coulee 50. I’ve tried in store and find that Bridger is much more comfort than Coulee. One problem I have is that 45L capacity enough for a 3-4 day hiking trip with camping gear ? I want to have one high volume backpack to handle all around situations. And 3-4 days trip will be my edge case.

My only other complaint with the bridger besides color is just that small strange buckle that was hard for alot of people to even figure out. I think a normal itw nexus or fastex buckle would have been plenty good. You know the buckle im talking about im sure? Near the main drawstring. Works but weird buckle. Nip pickin kinda. Lol great pack!!

I think it all depends on what you take@@o0oitzJimmy. Just did an overnighter with their Pintler, which is only 38L, and had a small BV425 bear canister in it. So 45L could easily work, in my case.

I said I wanted to get a Bridger even when I got OV’s 45 L Shadowlight. Not having straps on the bottom of the Shadowlight stinks only a tad. Now that there is a 45 L pack compared to the 55, I will definitely get one this year.

Cool packs! Was pondering what the use case was, as they're really a bit too heavy for climbing and overspecifed for the ordinary dayhiker (cough, me). My thought outside of things like hunting or photography was military type rucking: SFAS preparation, GoRuck events, that kind of thing; where you are either on a mission off-trail, or carrying a load is part of the exercise. Tires me out just thinking about it.

Hi Eric, having watched a few of your product review videos, I understand your affinity to Mystery Ranch's backpacks. My question concerns size, most notably whether to select the 55 or 65. Realizing this is sort of a loaded question, basically, if your are primarily interested only 2-3 day treks is it safer to go with a larger pack or would you be caring around stuff and weight you really don't need? To qualify my hiking preferences, most milder weather and average terrain, nothing extreme. Any insight on your part would be appreciated.

QUESTION. Looking at Bridger 45L typically for 2-3 day trips, maybe 4-5 days on the high end. Considering it with Tarptent Moment DW, Nemo Tensor Extreme UL pad, Nemo Disco bag... I believe all that will fit easily. The real question is can it also hold a Bear Vault 450, 3L water bladder, and still have room for clothing layers? Any advice welcome.

Sizing Question??? I wanted to buy the terraframe 65. My question is should i downsize to the medium size backpack since the belt on the large is to large where as the medium is only 1 inch shorter than my torso but the belt is the right size? I still have a hard time being able to quantify the tradeoff of 'more comfortable' but heavier pack vs a lighter pack that still may be very comfortable. Even just from this 4.5 lb pack vs a 2.9 lb osprey pack, especially in a total pack weight under 30 lbs. Can you speak to carrying a 25-29 lb pack with a mystery ranch and then taking all that same gear and putting it a lighter pack, like an Ospry Exos or something and say which was more comfortable/better experience?

In my experience the lighter packs get uncomfortable above 25 pounds. Hip belt starts to feel like it doesn’t transfer the load properly anymore and shoulder straps start to feel uncomfortable because there’s too much weight on them. Lighter packs are amazing when all the other gear is light too.

Trekking poles, for sure. Walking sticks are nice, but can't compete with trekking poles for long, technical hikes.

If you were to remove your camera equipment and add a bear canister, would you still be able to fit your sleeping system, clothes, toiletries, etc. in the 45L? I'm in a big debate with myself on whether the 45L will suffice or if I need to bump up to the 55L.

I have their Pintler hunting pack, which is only 38L and I did an overnighter with it while carrying a BV425 in it (loaded with Ether XL, down quilt, normal extra clothing, stove, tent was on the outside, fly rod/net, rain gear, other misc). It was tight but was able to do it. With that being said, I am really considering this pack for a little more volume without having to take my larger 60L Osprey pack. So I think it all depends on what size canister you have.

I recommend many times even on other hikers channels but I want to see your opinion about the HoverGlide backpack. I personally have the hiker pack instead of the trekker pack. Thinking about getting that one in the future. Also I personally think that HoverGlide backpack is the next generation of backpacking.

I won't be surprised it other companies don't copy MR running vest backpacking pack design, but right now I'm not familiar with anyone else doing it. However, a really nice UL pack that will carry 20-25 lbs comfortably is the Waymark Gear Lite 50L pack.

I actually haven't had luck with the Peak Design clip on any pack, mostly because I have to use a tripod mount I don't like. I have found I really like Hyperlite's Camera pod for backpacking with a big camera.

FYI - I use the peak design clip base to attach to my tripod. Have actually been looking at hunting packs recently for expeditions plus photo gear (Stone Glacier, Exe, etc), not looking at the Metcalf or MR versions just now.

That's definitely where I was at about two years ago. 75L used to be my standard. Slowly whittling my pack size down over the years.

Leave them Ultra weak alone. How many search and rescue would be out of a job dragging trendy ,weak hearted,un prepaired off the trail. I can really get down with a Hefty Bag backpack .007 oz that you pay $700 for,and makes it all the way to the helicopter ride off the trail Haha. Satire my friend. Mostly. From the future I just dumped all my 5.11 stuff and ordered the bridger off optics planet for $234 5,11 really blew it. Mystery Ranch bound now.

The new 55 & 65 bags Compared to having the classic torpedo pockets, imo are a big down grade. Torpedo pockets are great for isolating gear away from the main compartment; like wet gear, toiletries, or smelly cloths. These new bags have separate compartments but not in a way that feels right. Mystery ranch is great at making simple, yet effective bags, but these new ones just feel over complicated, with some unnecessary features. It just feels like they wasted a really good frame on a not so good bag. I’ve never had this bag, so I can only imagine.

I prefer this bag over the Glacier or Terraframe. Those packs are great for compartmentalizing like you say. But to me are overkill for most backpacking.

compared to osprey and gregory ... i am interested to see these reasonable priced packs you speak of , i have not ever seen them ... maybe decathlon , but they only make BIG packs their smaller packs are crap and dont last.

Mystery Ranch backpacks are just too heavy. When you compare their packs to other similarly sized backpacks, such as those from Osprey, the Mystery Ranch packs are several pounds heavier. No one wants to be carrying that amount of extra weight unless it is absolutely necessary.

I understand. But my argument remains that two more pounds of pack weight, if it makes carrying your pack that much more comfortable, is worth it. A 34 lb pack with A+ comfort is better and easier to carry than a 32 lb pack with B- comfort.

100%. active duty Marine here and I can speak to having a solid and comfortable pack is preferred 100x over than a lighter less comfortable pack

The torso adjustment option is a waste of money and is just a design and marketing gimmick. This is a $60 bag at best

Hello Eric,. Do you use a mat liner or a rain cover? I love how the back opens up fully, but I have been using a liner and not sure how this design would play with that. Love your videos.

I don't typically use a liner. I've been using the Hillsound Packstack Pro's for internal organization and waterproofing.
