I was gifted some Pink Floyd vinyl and I will not be putting it on my very poor quality suitcase player. I am looking at current makes/models and am going to invest in this lifestyle. I want to thank you from the bottom of my music loving soul - you have made this adventure pleasant and educational. Within 5 hours of watching you I now know what I need and don't need. You are a treasure to the music community. Thank you~

Finally Pink Floyd is reprinting their albums on 180g vinyl. I remember when I could get a good copy for less than $20. Today the prices are more than doubled. I remember I gave away my favourite Pink Floyd album to a friend because of his kindness. It was the only album he lacked to complete his collection. I stroll around in vinyl shops and I figured I could get a similar one for little over $20. But they were from $40-50 and not even as good as the one I gave away, which i bought for around $20 some five years ago. The album is Atom Heart Mother, and they say it will be reprinted later this year. the first three albums have been reprinted and awailable at amazon.uk

2:58 Fun fact, I own that album on CD, and at the end of Runnin' Down A Dream, Tom Petty talks to the listener and takes a few seconds before they begin side 2, in fairness to listeners on vinyl and cassette. I think that's really nice. :)

Bless you for mentioning FM's Black Noise in your top 20. They are sadly very unknown in the world of music. I recommend FM to anyone I meet who shows an interest in progressive rock or simply experimental music, period. An Ontario, Canada boy myself, I heard the odd song by them on Toronto's Q107 radio station back in the day, and after hearing the whole BN album at a friend's place (way back around 1980 or so), I bought a copy for myself. I've owned it on cassette tape, then the first long-overdue CD pressing, then upgraded to the remastered CD a few years back. So that's a used copy you have there, right? I saw the album on used vinyl not long ago, and I passed on it just because I don't even listen to my CD much any longer (just once in a long time.... I listened to it constantly for decades. I'm sure I'll regret not buying it on vinyl... unless it's still there... Thanks for the great video and channel!

Hey, Craig! I love to watch your vids! You really seem to know your stuff and yet you are very down-to-earth, humble & great for the average person whom has a great interest in vinyl records. Always have great tips to share while keeping in mind the likelihood of one who may be financially strapped. I truly trust your opinion on pretty much everything from cartridges to turntables and anything else vinyl related. Keep up the good work, keep up the great vids and DEFINITELY...keep on spinning that vinyl. Cheers! 🍻

Cool tapo on your favorite vinyl! They all are well cared for! Mine were stored horizontally but seldomly played! Now my turntable (dad's old Dual 1010A) is almost repaired and soon I'll have it connected to my old stereo. I recently purchased an old record from America's Hideaway and Fleetwoodmac's Mirage at a thrift store but the covers were worn perhaps the vinyl as well! The art work of the Lp's is amazing, large format printing and the photography had to be large format as well!

I guarantee you that CDS will come back in value, because everyone is trashing and throwing theirs away. And some of the more obscure CDS will never be available online. Keep your CDs.
@zackamania65348 жыл бұрын
***** If you ever have catastrophic data loss, you could lose many songs. Having the CD means you will always have the source on hard copy, along with the credits, lyrics etc. People made the same argument about records when they started selling/trading/trashing them in the late 80s to early 90s. Most folks figured they would never buy another record in their lives.
@crowfeedreactions8 жыл бұрын
I think it's very possible that CDs will return to a place of prominence. After all, hardly anyone predicted the vinyl resurgence, so to say it isn't possible seems myopic at best. HOWEVER, I do think the form factor of CDs is what limits their appeal, especially from any kind of resurgence in interest. The portability of CDs was really the main reason they came to dominate the music form factor wars. But now CDs have been displaced in portability by all-digital music. Who wants to haul around a bunch of CDs when you can contain your entire music library in a thumb drive? And what vinyl has as a form factor, what makes it special, CDs don't have. There's really nothing CDs bring to the table that vinyl doesn't (besides, perhaps, low noise levels on playback, which appeals to some) and vinyl has the added attraction of having much larger cover art, which appeals to those who thinks aesthetics are important (that would be me!). In addition to that, there is the physical ritual of taking a record out of its sleeve, placing it upon the turntable, dropping the needle to the vinyl. I know it sounds a bit silly, but there's something about that process, that series of movements, that is just much more satisfying than popping a CD in a player and pushing "Play".On the other hand, the thing CDs have going for them, which vinyl had previously, is their lower cost factor, especially for used CDs. One of the things that kept vinyl alive when it was otherwise left for dead by the major labels, was the cheapness of used records. You could build an entire vinyl collection and not come close to breaking the bank. With all the renewed interest in vinyl these days (and I am also part of that), prices have gone up and now you have to invest a fairly significant chunk of change into your vinyl to amass a decent collection. So maybe CDs will survive because of that. Or maybe it will be cassette tapes. Who knows?! What I do know is that I have over 300 CDs, because I bought into the CD "revolution" like everyone else in the late 80's. While I prefer vinyl now, I have no intention of getting rid of those CDs I've accumulated. What for? They don't take up that much space and they're not hurting anyone! :) Who knows, maybe they'll be worth a few pennies on the dollar in a couple decades?!
@zackamania65348 жыл бұрын
+Joe Como yeah you're right. Try getting a UHCD, or a box set from the 90s. I just sold a 3 disc box set of Lynyrd Skynyrc for $47 on ebay. And my Doors "Perception" box set clicks in at about $180...so CDs and especially box sets have become valuable.

The Eagles' best album IMO, though One Of These Nights is a very close 2nd I think. Fleetwood Mac's Rumours is an absolute classic. I am so glad that I found your site as I never took the time to understand how to adjust a turn table so that it works properly>>>!!!! I appreciate your site as I am learning a lot in my senior age!!! I remember 1974 when I spent $920 on a stereo system which I still have and use, which consisted of a Realistic QTA-790 4 Channel Receiver>>>4 Nova Series Speakers and a Reel 2 Reel and a Garrard Turn Table!!! That turntable always skipped, I could never get it to work right, so myself and some friends used it for target practice, I really regret that now!!! I do still have the Cartridge and Stylus just in case I decide to get a Garrard!!!!!!!!! I did find a>>>Audio-Technica AT-LP2X Record Player which has a Magnetic Cartridge and Diamond Stylus which is compatible with my receiver, I am going to get that and use your lesson to make the proper adjustments!!!!!!! Thank You For Your Lessons>>>!!!!!!!

Thanks Craig for another really enjoyable video. I like everyone of them. They make me feel good and listening to you makes it feel like sit with a good friend talking about our favorite subject - "vinyl"! But Im little older than you and from Sweden so in my world they are not vinyls but LPs ofcourse. I like the list you presented but as Im older and perhaps because Im Swedish so I was about 15 when the black blues hit us my list wouldnt contain even 1 record from your list. And for me every record on my list will be those recirda that hit my soul, head and stomach the first time I listened to them. Irrespectible of condition. But if I could get better copies than my old original I might buy another copy of them. So the first impression is whats most important to me. But I do try to get the best recordplayers I can afford even if just hear the cracks even better. I have one old Luxman PD-290, one Thirens TD-160 and one new Project Classic with an 2M Black and several new and old cartridges (me and my old friend calls them Pickups ofcourse! But because of one of your videos about a recordplayer I had never heard of that you like Ive ordered a Fluance Reference RT 85! so I can easy change cartridges and test them and compare. Because even if I had separate headshells on my Luxman and my Thorens those headshells are not standard. I choose between RT 85 and Technics 1500 C. And its not possible to buy Fluance in any swedish HiFi store I had to order it from Amazon. I will get my new darling 23d to 29th of Juöy. Im eagerly waiting for it. But I still may also buy a Technics 1500 C even if I dont like onboard RIIA (please dont just call it a Phono ampmifier because its not ONLY and amplifier but the most impirtant thing it does is to transform the curved freqv curve to back to normal) amplifiers. So stop all those terible onboard RIIA amps and internal ADCs and USB connectors. Real "vinylers" dont need or want them. I used my old Pioneer PD-509and 609 to digitize my old LPs some years ago and they have good ADCs! So thank you very much Craig. And by the way I took up my singing and guitar playing again after a 25 year long pause and went up on stage and hav a coupke of acoustic trios and performed on different stages. So I went up on stage first time after my 50ieth birthday. And have had a good time doing it. I have made several song and some of them are kind of popular and I have a live recirding of my trio on one of Stockholms most legendary stages! That feels really good. And next week I will get my new Darling because of you Craig.Keep on giving us good videos with your friendly smile. Vinyl is Final as you say!

It is also a huge Favorite of mine - So I guess I now must get it if it was that hard to choose from. Supertramp Live was the best sounding concert I have ever been too - They sounded Live exactly as good in sound quality as they did on their Studio Recordings. I must say I am a little surprised not One Led Zeppelin Album was in there - LZ IV, and especially because of the incredible sound they got on Vinyl with Physical Graffiti. I'm 14, have a turntable and a lot of vinyls that I found in my garage that I brought up to my room. One of them is Def Leppard's Hysteria. My dad hates Def Leppard, he can't stand it because it was played too much around him. One night I decided: hey I should annoy my dad. So I took the album off of the shelf, plugged in the turntable, turned the volume up to the loudest (which is pretty loud) and I played "Pour Some Sugar on Me" Note: I was at the end of a corridor/hallway and my dad was at the other end, outside the back door (which was closed) When the song started playing, my sister and mum watched, laughing as we waited for my dad to notice. After 30 seconds, he opened the back door, came in and walked down the hallway to inspect where that infernal noise was coming from, he had this funny pissed off face lol. He came into my room, looked at the turntable for a moment, turns it off and walks back outside. Me and the family were laughing so hard lol.

Everyone says Blake sleeves are great , my opinion is they’re crap, and damage your sleeves as you can see the evidence from this video !

Great video Craig. Got to tell you that you are responsible for me rediscovering Rush, I've heard you mention them a few times on CraigTube, took a listen to them again after many years, and wow! I'm slowly buying all their albums in date order, I've just received their 1985 offering in the post, sure you can tell me what it is! Thanks for another great video, which has made it's way all the way to sunny Scotland. ps You need to get some Queen vinyl into your collection, especially their early stuff!

Mark Nichol Yup, Power Windows is fantastic, one of my favs. A lot of people don't like the amount of synths used, but I love it. I'll be getting the re-issue, even though I have it already and it's mint. Glad you enjoy the videos. Cheers Mark! Rush Rules. :)

Vinyl TV I got to see them during the Power Windows tour. I play pipe organ. To see Geddy playing multiple instruments at one time brought me to tears. I always wondered how 3 people would reproduce album live. Neil, the percussionist extraordinaire, had me amazed.

I swear, everyone and their mother had the best of bread. Yet, I still can't find a copy in good shape.
great job! i agree with your picks. i cant believe you said Bread because i have the original with Diary and Greatest Hits. sounds great with my Pro Ject 2 experience with sumiko blue cartridge. i do have original master recordings of Fleetwood Macs white album, lennon mind games, George Benson's masquerade, Steely Dan Aja, and of course Dark Side of the Moon...180 gram of The Wall and Daft Punk, Beatles white album and sgt peppers...Looking for a clean copy of Grover Washington Jr Winelight....i have more but wanted to thank you for the great information. i power my magnapanar 1.7i with parasound 2.1 halo. incredible sound...i hope someday to get the 3.7i

Fave pieces of Vinyl... gee I have so many and much much more than ten, so picking ten would be a chore and somewhat impossible for me to pick.

Sold For The Prevention Of Disease Only by Wilderness Road is The Cat's Ass. Their "Heavily Into Jesus" is the coolest & most kick ass Jesus tune ever! It's on CD. Might as well get CDs of anything I mentioned. After all it's the 3rd Millennium now!

Records can be damaged right at the beginning of their life. Many plants let them drop into their inner sleeves right after the pressing process. I don't like that, they should be left to cool down without anything around it. Records that have very soft beginnings are prone to damage in particular. So buying a record, even new ones, is always a gamble. But that is probably why we buy records! If a copy is pristine we are so happy, just like you talking about your favorite albums. Part of the magic vinyl brings to us.
