Just finished The Night Watchman myself. Didnt enjoy it, but that’s what I love about literature; so much room for differing viewpoints. I’m enjoying your channel.

Lovely list. I really want to read Andersonville, but I don't make it a priority somehow. I loved The Grapes of Wrath when I read it in high school, but that was decades ago. I planned on rereading it this year and I still hope so fit it in. I read East of Eden last year and it was one of my top two books, so I know TGoW won't disappoint. And I have always loved To Kill a Mockingbird so it would be on my list. I have in my head that Angle of Repose is a favorite, but I rated it four stars on Goodreads. I may need to reread it and see why my memory of it is better than my rating.

I love Angle of Repose, but I don't like the very end and that's why I gave it four stars. You definitely should give Andersonville a shot! Thanks for sharing some of your favorite Pulitzers with me!

Just listened to To Kill a Mockingbird over the past year. It was narrated by Sissy Spacek and enjoyed it quite a bit. I may have mentioned before I tried to read Beloved but could not get into it. I tried again as the audio version and was mesmerized. I have collected many of the books you have mentioned so I best get going. Hahaha. the towering pile of books waiting for my attention is unending. Be well Kelly.

I have so many books to read too! It can get overwhelming! I also don’t have as much free time to read at the moment, which is really crippling. But it’s not a contest, Kelly! I am up to my eyeballs in paperwork at the moment, so I’m hoping once that passes at the end of July, I can get more reading done this year. Happy reading! 💛

I think I liked "The Old Man in the Sea" more than most people. Sometimes it's hard to tell why some books just fit with a person. Agree with you about "Gilead" and 'Beloved" they are essential reads. "Journey in the Dark" is and obscure gem ('44 winner) that I really liked. Reading the Cheever right now, it is long but there are some great stories in it.

Hi Kelly! Thanks as always for these recommendations! But wait...where is "The Mambo Kings Play Songs of Love"? (haha just kidding!). As you know, I read "Now in November" based on your recommendation, and can only echo it. I love those works which are unearthed 'lost classics,' waiting to be rediscovered! "The Grapes of Wrath" is yet another novel on my queue that I'm embarrassed to say I haven't read yet and feel I should have by now (I also hope to read "East of Eden"), as well as (more personally, because I've read a fair share of Cormac McCarthy) "The Road." I haven't read enough Pulitzers to generate a confident list, but I will say of the ones that I have read I thought these were great books: "The Age of Innocence" by Edith Wharton, "All the King's Men" (and if I recall Robert Penn Warren is the only person to win for both Fiction and Poetry), "The Old Man and the Sea" by Hemingway (it seems to me this is a very polarizing work--some love it and some hate it), and "Ironweed" by William Kennedy (definitely my favorite of that trilogy). Happy reading! Joe

I may have to give Gilead another try. I just didn’t get it - maybe I’m not f’n smart! 😉 I think my favorite Pulitzers so far are Beloved, The Good Earth, To Kill a Mockingbird, and The Color Purple. The ones from your list i haven’t read that I now HAVE to read are Now in November and The Stories of John Cheever.

This video is right up my alley! My favorite Pulitzer winner will always be Grapes of Wrath because it’s my second favorite book ever. Angle of Repose, Empire Falls, The Known World, Olive Kitteridge. Independence Day, and Kavalier & Klay are also among my favorites. Stories of John Cheever is my favorite short story PP winner for sure! Thanks for a great video! ❤

I LOVE Angle of Repose, but i struggle with the ending, so it gets four stars from me but holds a dear place in my heart. I'd like to reread The Known World. It was the last Pulitzer I read at the end of my Pulitzer project and I was pretty wiped out. Thanks so much for your wonderful comment! I love hearing about other people's favorite Pulitzers!

I read Lonesome Dove a long, long time ago and probably would have given it 4 stars too but it's been talked about so much lately that I bought it again and am planning to reread it when I can get to it. I have Gone With the Wind, which I read many years ago and enjoyed a lot but now when I think about the book and the movie, it's just so racist. I had it on my book shelf at college and when I got a new room mate who was black, I had to put it away.

The Grapes of Wrath was the first "adult" novel I ever read. I had to re-ead it multiple times before I "got it. " And if you want to buddy read Lonesome Dove with someone, I'm your guy. I'm obsessed with Larry McMurtry again lately.

I've not read Andersonville, Cheever, The Nickle Boys, The Night Watchman, or The Hours. I love most of the others part from The Road which is subpar wannabe science fiction. I have bought copies of the hours and Andersonville too so I'll get to them one day. You should read all of Robinson, including Housekeeping, and watch the lovely film of Housekeeping, she is America's greatest ever writer for me.

I am torn on which I love best, Grapes of Wrath or East of Eden. Both have impactful endings for me. I used to be one who didn't like short stories (because I always felt I wanted more). But I've changed my mind since this past December when I read several for Dickens December. I fell in love with them and now have a compilation going at all times. Great list!!!
