That was one of the most amazing performances. George Michael was one of the best singers and songwriters of all times. He had such a smooth, velvety and perfect voice. The best thing about him is he sounded better on person than on a recording. I was lucky enough to get to see him on his Faith Tour. Hands down the best concert I've ever seen. He was truly amazing and gone way way too soon.

George NAILED this song!! I LOVED how Freddie did this song, but LOVED how George did this song and did it justice in his own way to perfection!

As a lifelong fan of George Michael, I’m not surprised that he nailed this. I’ve seen this clip many times, and it always warms my heart to know that he did the song justice. Can’t think of any other singer who could do this song and be as close to Freddie Mercury’s voice. I have all the albums of George Michael as a solo artist, and he always sounded fantastic. His voice was massive, built for stadiums, in the same way Freddie’s was. I was devastated when GM passed. His voice was phenomenal.

A little background on this performance. George was really nervous to sing this song because it was not only his favorite Queen song, it was Freddie's favorite as well. Around this time, George had fallen in love for the first time in his life with a Brazilian named Anselmo Feleppa. The day Freddie passed, George learned that Anselmo tested positive for HIV which was a death sentence at that time. Talking about his performance George said he knew he had to not only pay tribute to his idol and friend Freddie Mercury but he also had to pray for Anselmo. He said these two things drove him to give the best performance he could. Sadly he would lose Anselmo to the same dreaded disease that took Freddie just 2 years later. There was 72,000 people at the concert and another 2 billion watching live on television which is how I saw it. People who had never heard of George Michael and people who were never big fans of his walked away from the concert being one. I would encourage you to react to more of George Michael's live performances. He is always pitch perfect. I have never heard him sing a bad note. He also has amazing duets with Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Mary J. Blige, Stevie Wonder, Elton John to name a few. I would normally tell people to not even try to sing songs made famous by some of the best singers of all time such as Freddie Mercury, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Bonnie Raitt, etc....unless you are George Michael. After hearing songs he covered don't forget to listen to songs he wrote, arranged, produced and of course sang himself. An underrated talent to be sure. He was one of a kind and truly one of the best vocalist of all time IMO. Thanks for doing this reaction.

He was the only one on the bill that night who completely nailed a Freddie Mercury song. You should see the KZbin video of him rehearsing this. David Bowie is there watching and is really applauding at the finish. Concert goers that night were surprised to see George as part of the program. They were pleasantly surprised afterward. So was Queen. They even asked him to tour with them as their lead vocalist.

George Michael's Talent can never be overstated. This is also an extremely difficult song to sing and he made it look effortless.

In my mind George Michael were the only singer who could have been able to replace Freddie. This whole concert were amazing and George Michael's part were one of the few times I ever seen my father totally break down in tears (but smiling while doing it). I thank my father for loving Queen.

George was the biggest pop star in the US between 1987-88, had two songs of the year in the States (Careless Whisper 1985 and Faith 1988), several number one hits with Wham and by his own and sold million of records. He wasn't underrated in the US.

Yes, you are right, he was the biggest pop star in the late eighties. When I said he was underrated in the US, is because after that period, he was still a mega superstar in the rest of the world, and most especially, the u k up until his death. In fact, when I bring up his name to people in the states, I always hear back from them about the struggles and issues he had with the tabloids. They don't even realize that he was still very celebrated and extremely popular in the rest of the world after Faith.

Hi Tom, Which One Of George's Concerts. This will blow your mind, It did mine after watching all videos & then, then watched one of his full concerts, WOW! Now I have almost everything I can possibly get about George Other than cooky stuff. George always includes his audiences, Always! And you can always see how much fun & how he loves his fans. That was one of the beautiful things I've always enjoyed about George. If you go back to his Faith Concerts, Well you'll see! Along the way of experiencing George, Look up the man he was & is. For me & I know many others are just blown away by things he's done that we never know about until after his passing. I really could write a book right now but be glad that I'm not up for that, right now. Anywho, watch his interviews, recording sessions, anything you can, & you'll appreciate him for more than anyone you could come up with. LOL my friend, Welcome to our world, Of George Michael!🎶🎤🕯😇🥰💕

This concert was at Wembley, same as The Kind of Magic and Live Aid concerts. 72,000 there. Also George said he didn't want to change the song when he sang it, although he was a little worried about the high note!! I think it was a fitting tribute!

I was an older teenager when this concert was played. I was a huge George fan, always had been since I was a wee kid growing up with Wham! Mostly I was a rock chick, but I loved George. The reaction to this performance was massive. George had always been kind of written off by the UK music media, because of Wham! He was just a pretty boy who wrote silly pop songs. Then he did this, and the whole world realised what an incredible vocal talent he was. I was so proud of him! Damn I miss him. Still remember the day Freddie died too, that was a massive deal. Don't know why it's always the good ones we lose first.
