Stand alone fantasy always makes me think of Guy Gavriel Kay and his brilliant novel "Tigana." Dude is also the master of historical fantasy. "The Last Light of the Sun" is my favorite but "The Lions of Al-Rassan" is a close second.

I believe Elantris is also stand alone by Sanderson (I never know when he will revisit a setting though). I certainly agree with the video's perspective that Warbreaker is the better of the two, but Elantris also evokes an engrossing world faced with an urgent mystery behind some political intrigue.

After enjoying Uprooted a lot more than I expected, I now desperately want to read Spinning Silver. Especially since I love the Rumpelstiltskin fairytale. I'm gonna read The Ghost Bride soon! Neverwhere is very good. I skipped the first chapter or so till the main character entered London Below. He didn't really man up down there, but at least stopped being a wimp. Gaiman wraps up a loose end in the Neverwhere novel with a follow-up novelette How The Marquis Got His Coat Back. Not to be missed.
