Just something to note, which i didn't mention in the video. The tent is free-standing at any stage. You can just unpeg the 4 corners and move it to your desired spot. You can also pitch the outer first once the poles are attached if needed.

Love this tent. Did the West Highland Way with it. Light, easy to pitch, plenty of room. No issues at all with the weather. It was actually fairly cosy with only part of the inner being mesh. Definitely a good purchase for solo hiking.

Looking at this, I am trying to work out if there is any reason I would not be able pitch outer first? I have been caught out way too many times with inner first tents in the rain. Great informative video though.

I hiked through the pine forest along the SW French coast during a heat wave, my boots had turned into personal saunas and I had blistered painfully. I knew I had problems when I arrived at the campsite, although I'd replaced fluids when I reached the ville I was aware I had a touch of heatstroke, putting up my Phoenix Phantom tent was somehow confusing and I broke an aluminium pole doing it, luckily the repair kit carried a pole repair sleeve. I didn't feel the need to seek help as I could hear the people on the pitches around me speaking English so I could ask for help when I needed it. In the night I had to go to the toilet block and had difficulty finding my tent again. Next morning I discovered that none of the people in the pitches around me were speaking English I'd hallucinated it.

I've actually got some footage of me putting up the old 1 man tent after that 40KM walk we did, but it didn't make the cut when editing for Peak District North to South Day 1, mainly because there's a lot of swearing, a lot of anger and frustration, HAHA! This one has been much easier tbf on our last long-distance hikes

Good to see you using a Gothic arch tent, they allow a much narrower tent for the same height than a Roman arch tunnel or dome tent. They also perform better in bad weather. I don't see the need for the ridge pole on this tent it would be quite stable even in windy weather without it, I also don't see the need for the footprint groundsheet under the tents own groundsheet. Footprints are something that have come in from luxury family camping, It would be better to have a decent Karrimat or SIM. The pro footprint lobby say that it avoids damage to the sewn in groundsheet from sharp stones but I've never seen a ripped groundsheet from sharp stones. I'm using a Vango Pulsar 300 as my car tent, it's a Gothic arch tent with an extended fly sheet, quick to put up and take down with enough space to make a standing camp more comfortable. I did buy a Vango Pulsar 200 as a cycle camping tentas well. The poles of a Vango Pulsar slide into sleeves on the outside of the flysheet, this allows you to permanently clip the inner tent to the flysheet and to store the tent in it's bag already clipped together. The Vango Pulsars come with a stuff sac tent bag, you can fold the tent loosely and stuff it in, only cotton tents need to be properly folded and rolled to avoid creases. Do you have aluminium or glass fiber flexible poles? Aluminium is so much better. Frayed glass fiber poles can be replaced and internal shock cords re-threaded.

Hi Richard. I agree, the footprint is probably optional and the material feels strong enough to use it without it and I have considered this. I do a lot of long-distance hiking, and It doesn't sound like a lot, but the idea of shaving 266g is very appealing. Because this tent is made of 20d silicone Nylon, you can very easily just shove it in the stuff sac, which makes it much easier when backpacking. There's nothing worse than folding a tent up to find it's too big to go back into the bag, lol. The poles for this particular model are 7001 aluminium.

I think the footprint enables you to pitch the frame before the inner, so you can do outer before inner, useful in rain.

great video! I gotta ask, why scrunch up the tent in the bag? i would suggest folding it, will look better and the fabric will last longer in my opinion

I dont store anything else in the Tent Bag, such as Poles, pegs etc... so when I'm out on a multiday, I tend to scrunch the tent in the bag because it compresses easier I find. When I'm back home, the tent comes back out, dry it out (if needed), and then gets folded away until next time.

I used this tent with a friend on the Pembrokeshire Coastal path in September and it did great... had I not forgotten the footprint we could've pitched it outer-first. That capability of pitching outer first is very nice to keep the inner dry when it's rainy. It is crammed when using it as a 2person tent and having 2x 70L Packs, but it works fine. Idk why everyone says "you'd have to know X very well to use tent Y as 2 person tent" ... do you go camping with strangers in your tent? /s

I always think the same when I hear people say that about sharing a 2-person tent with someone. If you're going camping and you've agreed for them to stay in your tent. Chances are, you know them, and you're comfortable with them to share a tiny space. Lol

Yes, that's normal. It should be pre angled towards the roof of the tent.

I've noticed the green and blue options over the white. How much hotter do you find yourself in the blue tent in let's say mid summer?

Its difficult to say as I've not tried the other colour variations of this particular tent. Darker coloured tents are great at absorbing heat and poor at reflecting light. So statistically it will be hotter during the warmer days/nights. Being from the UK, we get about 1 week of summer a year where the temperatures go above 20c (68f) - so I just went for whichever colour was the cheapest at the time.

Around 7c - 11c (44F - 51F) This year has been much colder during summer nights in the UK

Which material is suitable for 4 season?

This varies depending on the manufacturer from what I've seen. They do a "winter" version of this tent, which is almost the same, but with an added "snow skirt". It still has the same 20D nylon silicone material. Some winter MSR tents use 20D ripstop nylon while others such as Hilleberg use 40D High Tenacity Ripstop Nylon. The more popular tents such as the North Face SUMMIT SERIEs VE 25 for example used on Mt Everest are 40D Nylon. So I guess this depends on how "extreme" you're going. I used this tent in January 2023, when the temperature dropped to around -5c with a light scattering of snow/frost, and paired up with a good sleep mat and sleeping bag I was fine.

The problem with that tent is that when you're laying in it all you see is tent. Side entry tents allow you to see outside when laying in them.
