My Favourite Thing I Have EVER Painted! I Shocked Myself!

Emma, After shoulder surgery in June of 23 I discovered watercolor & your channel. I doddled learning strokes & flowers, mainly roses. In March of 24, having not done anything of real significance, I told a friends husband I'd like to paint a barn owl for his wife for her birthday in May. I told him don't hold your breath cause it might not happen. I was overwhelmed and didn't know where to start. I watched KZbin videos of barn owls & began. The background was the hardest which I did last. The painting sat for over a week while I talked myself into what exactly to do. Yes there are mistakes that I see but no one else realizes. I'm still shocked at how well it turned out. I made her day & oh BTW, I'm 70. I have never done anything " artsy" in my life.

I started doing watercolor during Covid in late 2020, watched a Michael’s tutorial with Shaleen Louise, but was too intimidated to paint along even though I had traced out the sunflower. I never ended up finishing that painting. I ended up exploring a lot of YT videos and actually began my learning process doing your wild flower tutorials and loved starting small with your wonderful teaching style. Though I occasionally still do florals, my jam is more on the area of landscapes. I love that you have pushed beyond your comfort zone to attempt an owl with such success. I have been in a real slump with painting for a while now with the fear that my time away has eroded my skill level. I have been watching a lot of your videos in an effort to motivated myself back to the joy of painting and recently completed your recent sketchbook pine tree winter tree tutorial.
