How much time do I spend on my trees? I answer this question by looking back at all the work done to my Ficus microcarpa, the one I call "Fancy" over the last 7 years.
Today I'm working on my clump style Ficus elastica, my small Ficus benjamina, my Ficus natalensis and my small Ficus religiosa.
To see more videos on these individual trees, click on the playlist tab to find the tree you're looking for.

"So it's a stump but a it's a good looking stump" - words to live by... 😂 I really think taper is one of the most important aspects of Bonsai, it really makes the tree look miniature... And that little ficus religiosa has some beautiful taper! Great work Nigel I enjoy watching your videos with a cup of coffee in the morning! 👍🏻

I second that, it would also be interesting to hear the stories involved, where the trees were from and what was the motivation to start that particular bonsai, and what made the tree extra special. Nigel has too many beautiful trees to choose from, though! 😄

Winter loses, such a bummer. RIP my dwarf Hibiscus. I hope allot of my seedlings (local stuff) from this year make it. And my little oak from acorn. I can’t wait to play with all my hardy plants next summer.

It was nice to see the development of the ficus here. I especially like that you show when something has not worked. From this, beginners can take away that not everything always works out well (not even professionals). This knowledge will also be a consolation for many beginners if it doesn't work out. Hence a very good video.

Quite fascinating to hear the timeline for working on your ficus. It really brings into focus 🧘‍♂️ the patience needed for the results to come in the very long term endeavor that is Bonsai. A whole year can elapse with little or no change being effected by the grower, only the natural growth of a tree. The day to day is all about maintenance, maintenance, maintenance. ~ Sorry to see the damage and possible demise to a few of your trees. As you mentioned, it could have been a lot worse.

Hi Nigel, I'm wondering if it's also possible to spray young plants with soap and water. I have lice on my Jacaranda Mimosifolia (less than a year old) that I can hardly get rid of. I do try to remove as many by hand as possible

Hi Nigel, I’m wondering how much light the trees have when they are in the basement and whether you can keep the tropical trees in a dormant state in the dark over winter. I really enjoy your videos and thanks for sharing your world.

Hi Nigel, I was hoping to see an update on your ficus "too little". Do you still have that one? Were you able to deal with the roots at all? I have one in development and I keep looking at two major roots, not sure how I'll improve them in the future. Nice video, btw! Keep up the good work!

That is a nice looking stump! I always like to see your work on the Bodhi trees. Will it need to be repotted soon? Can you replenish the soil and put it back in the same pot? Wondering about how to keep a small bonsai root pruned.
