I was playing a match where opponent was playing this combo and very similar deck. I waited for them to go for the combo, and just when they least suspected it as soon as they equipped it to the faceless Haven, SOUL SHATTER. They scooped immediately. 😂

I have been having a BLAST with this deck. The mix of planeswalkers really feels more powerful than just Kaya. Also, I just realized that Kaya's ult allows you to recast the Book if your opponent breaks up the combo. Holy shit.

Squeaked into Diamond with it today, just in time for the crazy post-rotation meta. I like the variety of wincons. Awesome planeswalker ults, death by nerds, Haven beatdown... Kinda plays like a superfriends deck with a hidden combo, and the combo itself is the cause of only about half my victories.

Granted I get ran over occasionally by an aggro deck but I agree with you. Every match is a grinding 30 minute plus event. The deck and its variants really do well in the long game as far as I've played them.

I do remember when they banned Book, they said it wouldn’t necessarily stay banned, and I assumed that was also why no wildcards were awarded to those who had copies of it.

They banned it out of a specifically one format which was standard 2021 because it was a best of 1 format and had a gamestate that was bs to deal with for both players if one didn't bring outs(which in bo1 is a lit harder than bo3)

Power Word kill seems weak in this deck. It fails to kill Haven in the mirror, Goldspan in any red, Orcus and the Predator in Rakdos and all the Angels-Angels. In other words, it doesn't deal with any big threats in the format. except maybe green. I don't know if Hagra Mauling or Poison the Cup is better, but they're definitely slower. I guess I'll be trying Baleful Mastery. Any suggestions or harsh criticism is welcome.

Not sure I like removing all the Spellbinders. I already felt like the deck was borderline top-heavy against aggro as well as the mill combo deck and Spellbinder is a nice speedbump. It also trades well with Faceless Haven. Then again, I don't really know what else you could remove for Book and Search for Glory. I do like Lolth, but I'm not sure if the 2-2 split with Kaya is correct or if a 3 Kaya 1 Lolth split is better. Finally, I think keeping Professor is better given it's another thing to get back with Blood on the Snow and to put Ghostform counters on. I do understand the 1 life point though as the deck as minimum lifegain for how long it wants to go.

A vivid suggestion to anyone watching: Don't play this deck (at least not the variant with the Book) in low-rank on Arena. If the opponent isn't experienced they won't understand that it's happening even after the GG, and will continue to play, and no, not because they have Field of Ruin. I just finished a 3-0 and it took forever. The first player didn't understand and continued until the life went to zero, the second one continued even after that until I got to -26 without moving a finger, only one was able to close it shortly after because he was aware. Really a strong deck, but not for casual play on Arena that lacks a chat system.

At 23:30 or so, if they attacked you with the chargers then your Lolth death triggers would stack after (and thus resolve before) their charger death triggers, so you actually could save her. If you attacked into them on your turn then you couldn’t.

it really is a little unfortunate that you can read into what's in the opponents hand based on what holds priority, I am grateful for it and bitter about it at the same time. On one hand it does save a lot of time and stops people from roping, but on the other hand it adds a whole new thing to worry about that isn't even a consideration in paper magic.

There are tells in paper that you can learn to read as well. Things like body posture and ticks can give you information that you can't read in a digital setting with an emotionless avatar.

People probably know this but I wasn’t sure so I put out there. Even if u run out of cards you don’t lose game. I think we was both trying to get daily I guessing cause we played threw my deck. They conceded with 8 cards or something left so idk what would of happened. They was playing mono white too with a book. Towards end they put on one of their angels. Not thinking they atked with it twice I missed the first time just hitting button waiting for them to run out cards. Then second atk I turned my lands and blocked killing it. Idk what happens if both have book on faceless if it ends then says draw or what never seen before.

Question to players in general: when someone GG’s you, why the hell don’t you say it back out of common courtesy? That first guy GG’d after CGB pulled off the book combo, which is more than I would have expected given how salt-inducing that dumb combo is, and then radio silence.

I always try to if they say it first and its obvious if they are going to lose. But from what I understand, if they scoop too soon after saying GG they won't see you say it even if on your end you said it back before they scooped.

I think it's difficult to not see it as a troll, like the best time is right before losing but that can mean there's no time for a response. If I see GG and opp doesn't concede I become weary of it unless it's clear they're 100% letting me win.

I personally find the game much less irritating when emotes are turned off completely, so probably appear rude to some players who might use them in my matches. It's a shame because I'm sure many players use the emotes genuinely and in good faith but I prefer the 'silence' and ability to focus with them off.

The book of exalted deeds was banned in standard 2022. But it was only in the pre-trail before standard 2022 not actual standard 2022. (from my recollections) I remember them test running standarard 2022 before it was a thing and now its a thing so that's why they UN-banned it. (thoughts).

There isn't a "trial Standard 2022" and an "actual Standard 2022." Standard 2022 is a temporary, pre-rotation format. Book is likely not banned post-rotation, but it should definitely remain banned in Standard 2022.

I never really understood why the combo got banned. Content creators said it can't be stopped after it resolved? Isn't that all good combo decks. You need to stop combos BEFORE they resolve. Like the only difference with this combo is opponents have to hit concede button. Is that really worth a ban?

Its a two card combo where one piece is a land and the other an artifact. Pretty good.

@@MineRoyale. It's also a 6 to 9 mana combo depending on if you are trying to do it all in one turn. It can also be disrupted easily with typical card removal BEFORE it resolved . Considering most "combo decks" lately have been 1 card "I win" it's pretty tame.

I'm getting a lot of 1 land hands lately... Had a game yesterday where I was stuck on 2 lands until I went through 15 cards off the top of the deck (25 land deck btw) Lucky for me, mono-bolt beats a deck with a lot of small creatures and big equipments.

Using Book as a threat with enough cards to win without it seems like the strongest use. Downside to Combo always felt like it was the clear line for stopping it (no combo piece, no combo), and that doesn't seem to be a problem here. Excellent deck!
