For more than 10 years, I attended and organized craft shows. I know that sales will depend on the type of craft show; you can offer the exact same product at multiple shows, and while you will have good sales at some, others will have few or none. It happens. But please don't give up. It is my experience that craft shows held around Christmas have the best sales. People are looking for unique gift ideas at reasonable prices. Someone else commented here that it would be helpful to have a sample of each and I would recommend the same thing. This gives buyers something to touch and analyze. You may even want to have one or two that you're "working on" at the show...this demonstrates how simple it is and you may even have buyers make a few stitches. Stay positive: you now have a good amount of inventory and are ready for the next show!

Thanks so much for the encouragement 😊. I have taken into account the suggestions and have made a little display showing 1 of each so hopefully that will help people visualise better than looking at a picture. My next 2 are Christmas markets so I am hoping that they will sell there and hopefully they will be busier market with alot more shoppers. I hear you. I also think that they will sell at the right market. Once the 2 upcoming markets are done I'll look into others. At the moment I'm playing it cautious 😄 I was at a Saturday market 2 Saturdays ago and tried the sew on the day. I showed 1 or 2 browsers but there was no real interest But again if you watch the Live Steamers video you'll see it was a very teeny tiny market with very few people passing through

@Kreativfox If you have enough product (Don't spend the money or time to make more), I would try to push through this season. Do a few more shows closer to the holidays, then reassess. If you have to shelve it, at least you can say you tried.

I thought they were so cute!!! But I was dying to see what they looked like finished! You should have a bunch of them already made so people can see them all over. Also, put out an example of what each kit contains…even be sewing them while people are walking around so they can see the process. I think they’re adorable but I never saw what one looked like. Keep trying and don’t give up!!

Don’t give up. Keep working at figuring out who your target market is and attend places were they might be. I sold $0 on my first 3 shows! I think my family member might’ve had second hand embarrassment for me and probably felt bad for me. But on my 4th one, I finally sold and sold out of all of my Christmas ornaments. This is because 1) I finally figured out who my besties are, 2) A lot of that audience showed up at that place 3) I did some marketing to promote the event. Don’t ever rely on just the event to promote it, you gotta promote it too. I think printed might be the best way. If you can do printed and Pinterest is even better.

Ah man thanks so much for that comment. I really appreciate it 🤗 I've really been feeling it today. I have made some stupid market decisions and wasted a lot of money. I need to be more discerning and intelligent about where I go. I have 4 booked so nothing I can do about that now but going forward I WILL be more careful 😊💕

I did a craft show before covid and I took 10 months getting all my homemade journals together and I was so excited to start selling. It was at a major show in my town. I sat there for 5 hours and watched people selling and buying items. I didn't sell not 1 journal. I know the feeling for sure. You put so much work into your product. These are really cute. I just found your channel today. Anxious to watch your content

This happened to me at a craft fair in Norfolk, I had created wonderful items of ephemera to put into the journals for over a year and on the day me and my friend set up the table and after three hours of not selling one item we packed it all up and went home! It is so deflating to not sell one item of what you have spent hours creating. I feel your pain. X

I am so surprised! Your kits are absolutely adorable. It was strange to see a market with no vendors to "sell" their merchandise. I think you'll find more success in the markets where you can interact with people. I would have had a hard time NOT buying your kits even though I really don't have children of the age to want them. I'd build them myself! Keep your chin up!
@Kreativfox

Thanks so much for watching and for your kind words. Yeah it's a big thing here with markets that are longer. Other established marketers sell well and the public here seem to like it. They can browse without the awkwardness of interacting with a desperate vendor 🤣. There's a central pay point so shoppers can buy from multiple stalls without having to make multiple transactions. I'm doing some Saturday markets which are self manned. The footfall has been low and not successful. After I see how the 2 upcoming Christmas markets go I'll dig deeper into local markets and see what others are out there 💕

I think you did amazing, keep going it will get better, I have some suggestions, make two of each kit you have and put them around your table so people can pick them up and that way they know what they look like and they can feel them, I would also make some just to sell already made, people bring their kids to markets and they will what them as well, you being there you can suggest they can do they kits or buy one already made, if you are wanting to sell the kits more then made ones, I would up the price on the ones already made and that will make people buy the kits more, I would get tall creates to put the kits and the ones already made on eye level to grab peoples attention, I hope this helps and good luck on your next event, hope you record the next event so we can see how it went,,

I'm so sorry your kits haven't sold. As a crafter who has sold at flea markets in America and online, let me say I'm no expert. But my expectation is to buy the completed, assembled craft from a market. I would make at least half of them from your inventory and sell the completed ones for double what the kits are priced, so maybe they will help sell each other! Blessings to you

Thanks so much for your comments and advice 💕 😊. Of all the advice given I'm finding that the hardest. A lot of people say make and sell. My hand sewing isn't great and the whole idea was for someone to try a little craft but I hear you. People just don't want to make things themselves. My sister and my niece and I were always trying new crafts and 1 inexpensive little kit was ideal but I guess we are few and far between 🤷‍♀️💕

I have had this experience of putting my heart and soul into making a range of products specially for a craft fair and then sold nothing. It costs a lot of your time and money plus travel costs and fees for the table and it’s so disappointing. Newbie sellers get the worst spots as well. I decided I am happier just making things I like to make with no intention of trying to sell them. I lose less money that way and don’t have to struggle with rejection 😂 Thanks for making this video showing the reality of starting to attend craft markets. People have no idea how hard it is to even cover your costs.

Amen Sister!!!! All the gamut if emotions, planning, second guessing, Thinking..( Hurts th eBrain! Lol), Your.Time and Resources, etc... I Got burned some..had some fair successes, as far as getting a little over your table/ fees..which nowadays goes higher and higher! Sad, because some of these fairs/ fests should be free or 10$ or less in a small community. I have been hearing very bad news about Etsy....so there goes that. I used to sell on there.. ( only a couple sakes and shop looks :-(.. ) I feel like working on your own web store like square space might be a decent option, don't know.. Well, we all must have to keep on keeping on and put some Faith invested.. Its a process.. Much Success to You All! Hugs!!
@Kreativfox
@Kreativfox Жыл бұрын
@maineiacts Yes it's tough and if you new to it so many products are already being sold and they don't like double of products to give all vendors a fair chance of sales so you have to really think hard to come up with new ideas. I tried digital stuff on Etsy but sold nothing. In faith we persevere ❤️

Bless you, Phyllis. I have been where you are, sometimes the stars don’t align. I hate craft fairs, festivals, markets for just this reason. Permanent Marketplace booths are another option and many allow you to pay month by month without a contract. Of course, there are pitfalls with those, as well: how much traffic, rent cost, commission costs. One thing you could try is to see if your local gift shops or flower shops will accept a broad sampling of products. You would have to sell to them wholesale or see if they will take on consignment. This will allow you to see what people will and will not buy. This is, no doubt, very little profit on your part, but you get a lot of info. I have come to accept that what I love to make and what will sell are not always the same. Best of luck to you.

@stellabella6839 urgh that's so sad. One can only make so much and keep it for yourself 😂. So it means we can't do what we love or else we'll become hoarders. I was just packing a few things away and thought I'm starting to look like a hoarder cause I have more and more and not selling 😬. I have a free one tomorrow I'm going to try, and I have some China Mall things to add to the table to try draw sales 🤦‍♀️. We don't have a Dollar Tree so China Mall it is 😄

I think your kits are adorable! I did the conversion rate and it would be $6.50 for me... at that price I would gladly buy 2 of them from you at a market. The right eyes just have to see them, and that's something that's easier said than done. I think maybe you just need to get the word out somehow. And get to know the other regulars at the shows. They could be chatting with customers and mention your niche if they feel someone might be interested in what you are offering. Networking with others and just keeping your name out there should help get sales going. I think the fact that you stuck it out, even not selling anything, is a testament to your ambition. I can totally relate to your anxiety and your disappointment, but I also think your felt kits are a great idea, and hopefully the word will get out there somehow! :)

It’s too bad it didn’t go well for you, but as some others have said,don’t give up. I would agree with the person who suggested you sew a few, or maybe you could get a few friends to sew some of them and maybe even write a review on how easy and/or fun they are to make. Possibly make up a list of suggested uses - could be attached to kids birthday/Christmas presents, used as stocking stuffers etc.maybe even have a fake present nicely wrapped with one attached. Good luck with your next show. Did you note/advertise that the kits were complete with everything they would need to complete them? Perhaps you should also have some pictures of them on a sheet of paper with some way of contacting you after if they would like to order some after the fact or more 😊.

Hi Phyllis! I am so sorry your first market wasn’t what you hoped. Your kits are priced right I think, maybe even a bit low ($8.65 Canadian). I now have priced all my items at cost of supplies (rounded up to the next dollar) and don’t include labour. I had things priced higher and they didn’t sell so reduced the prices with the same result. I have done a few Christmas craft markets and some have been awful but some have been great. One year I almost sold out of my crocheted items and I was amazed. The lady who has had the booth next to me a few years now gave me very wise words on a bad year for both of us. She said today wasn’t so bad as we don’t have to make as much stock during the next year. The shoppers change every year and one year people will love your items. That has always helped me. I am adding new things (semi precious stone bracelets and 100% cotton bowl cozies) next year. I am always thinking about having a diverse table…. Try visiting some other markets (I love to gather research) and have a chat with people you find approachable. Some sellers go to sales every weekend for November and December but I am happy with one for now. Some tables have all sorts of display items, some are custom made too. I have a nice table cloth, a small tree, a lantern with greenery and a welcome sign. Your kits look great! Keep going as next year or a different market might just be perfect! ❤️

I just had an Idea pop into my head. You could make them so they could attach to a child's backpack and have the backpack with the little stuffy attached to it on display. One person said something about making it a key chain too; would it be to large for that? You could have the hard wear for both the backpack and key chain for sale at a small price.

I’ve been a crafter most of my life but just for my enjoyment and to give to family & friends but I’ve never tried to sell anything. Your table looked nice and the bags were cute. I sew by hand and machine but didn’t really know what was it your bags. Maybe if you’d had samples of each item already made people would want to try to make one themselves. I wish you better luck next time❤

Just a suggestion. What I do before a craft show is set up my dining room table the way I would at the show. Our tables are usually 6x4 so that’s size I set up for. Arrange until happy and take a picture, take it with you and set up will be stress free😊🎄🇨🇦 Don’t give up.

Good luck on the next ones. I went back and you only seemed to have one made sample hidden near the top. I think at least have one of every item made so people can see it in 3D might help. Not sure “who” was selling or not selling your items, hopefully it will go better with you there sharing your enthusiasm. I went to a few craft shows here in Australia and barely sold anything, there’s lots of factors and sometimes a lot of window shoppers. Heartbreaking when they pick up your card, say it’s awesome and then “chuck” it back on the table. Hugs

Gosh yes I hear you. The horrible thing about being at your table is watching people look smile and walk away, but the bad side of barcoded markets is exactly what you say, you can't share with anyone showing interest. I had 2 barcoded Christmas markets pre booked at the time of doing this video but I'm over them Glad to hear you were able to sell once you found the right place to sell 👍 💕

We've all had that happen to us, good shows, bad shows, you just never know. I think your stuff is adorable! Pro tip: Sit there, SMILE at everyone, and be stitching away while you're talking with the people who pass by your table! I found out a looong time ago that people like to see other people "work." It gets them more interested in your product. Once I started beading during shows my sales shot up dramatically! I could make bracelets for people while they shopped around the rest of the show (make sure to get a deposit) and it was fun! I'd also put more samples of your finished product out around the table, and if possible, get something to catch people at "eye level." Some kind of higher vertical display is always a good thing. Get a box, cover it in shiny fabric, maybe drape a lacy doily over that, and display your wares. The easier it is for people to see, the easier it is for them to spend! Best of luck to you! 🙂

Your kits are so cute - they are packaged nicely, too, instead of in a plastic bag. I shared a table with someone years ago, with each of us selling items that friends and family loved. I had given two items to people at work and ended up taking a lot of orders that made more money than I would have thought. People kept the items that both of us made for years and would take them out year after year, so we thought we'd give it a try. We finally found a date that worked for us, during the holiday season, on a Saturday and made as many items as we thought we could sell, investing time and money as people do. Unfortunately, the fair was located in a building that was half way up a steep hill and we had an icy storm overnight which made driving difficult. They did not cancel or postpone the show, so most of the crafters showed up, but almost no customers came because the roads were so bad. That having been said, the other crafters had time to look at and discuss our work with each other. I sold two items to another vendor. Others told me they would have bought my items except they couldn't because they hadn't made any sales themselves. I was strongly encouraged by the others to participate in another fair because they were all sure that our items would sell very well. It was too late to book a space at another show for that holiday season and for various reasons, we weren't able to try another fair the following year, so we ended up gifting the items we made. There is so much good advice posted by the others, so I would use their suggestions and definitely give it another try at a live show or create videos and a way to sell via mail order as many people are shopping online these days, more than ever. Please don't give up on doing what you love to do. Your kits are not only a product of your crafting, but it will give others a chance to create something really cute. Best of luck to you with everything.

The market layout was crazy. Any markets I ❤have done has had a space behind the table for the vendors to stand. That looked like the vendors had to stand in the😂 aisle between the tables. No room for customers to linger and have the time to really enjoy the shopping experience. Please don’t be discouraged by this one market. Being particular about the markets you attend can make all the difference. Is it a repeat market? How many current ❤😂vendors were there for the last one? How much space do you have? What advertising has the organizer done? How many customers are expected to attend? What is the price range of the other vendors? This should be a wonderful product for well attended Christmas markets.😮

Thanks for the kind words Sherry. This one was a vendorless market. It was 13 days. You set up and leave a little stock under your table and they monitor and replenish. There is a central paypoint. As it was my first market I was given the option of a half table which was a great option. I'm not sure what footfall they had but I was told that there was 1 other vendor that also made no sales, everyone else was able to make sales. I have higher hopes for the 2 upcoming Christmas markets 🙏

I like the idea of the kits. They are a good price point and you can offer up a "show special" of 2 for a slightly reduced price. Did you have samples of the finished items on hand? every show is different. Just went to a local show where I purchased over $150 of gifts. A lot of it is just "Would this be a good gift?" and the answer for your things is YES. But I saw some sellers at the craft show doing poorly, only two. One had pot holders and aprons in popular children's fabrics and it just wasn't that kind of show. It was ornaments and holiday signs for the door. Also the other was the one doing paper goods, like the chapstick in a little purse design. People were walking by as it was in a way too inexpensive. BUT, ask around. People will want to see what is IN THE KIT! Not kidding. Have one opened up. Have the finished product! Let people touch it. Let people know the age range of who can do it. From teens to adults... or children to adult. You have the PRODUCT we all agree!! I love how beautiful and unique the bags look. Really lovely to gift. Also November is craft show mania, and throw a few ribbons on the kits. Those would sell so quickly here.

Anyone who is a crafter has felt this heartbreak!! So sorry it had to happen on your first one though! And as you can see by the comments below, you are encouraged to continue and not be discouraged. There can be any number of reasons why you had no sales. Sometimes the market is in a place where the buyers are older people who do not have an interest in your product or you just don't have the traffic. I would be curious as to if your other vendors sold anything. I didn't notice crafts like yours in the other tables so maybe it was more of an adult type of showing. But you have an adorable craft and I would love to see the finished products. If your other venues have younger people, you will get the sales! They are very reasonably priced. My other suggestion is, don't just sell the kits. Use the time until your next sale to make as many as you can. People just don't have time to do the sewing but they have time to do the buying! Get those kits made up and they will fly off the shelf! You can see by comments how many people said they would love to purchase them already made. I hope you take my suggestion because your kits are adorable and good job you have so many because you will have trouble filling the orders! Best wishes!

Spice up your packaging or displays 😊 also offering a small cheap item for free like stickers sitting on the booth brings in people who wanna grab a free item and gives them more time to look at and consider your product. Make a video tutorial of each one to post here (if you haven't already) then make QR codes that people can scan at the booth to see what they will be making and it could generate more interest. Such a shame it wasn't a success. In all honesty, success comes down to the product first and foremost and then price. I have seen so many friends/acquaintances do poorly at craft shows because of their product - they think it's cute/a good idea, but do other people really feel the same. Most children will not put in the time to put this together and that is sadly a sign of our times. We are living in a world of more instant gratification. As a commenter below mentioned, it would be helpful to have a sample out of each critter and being present at your table may help as well. Truly wishing you more success in your next market 💜

If you line up the bags in right configuration you could press at least 2, maybe 4 prints at a time. Use a self healing cutting mat, quilting ruler and rotery cutter to cut multiple felt squares at one time. Then lay all the large felt squares out on a large counter/table. Place all smaller squares,in order, on large squares, then add thread packs. Place all folded instruction sheets, fluff packs and bags near by. Fold the felt, stack with fluff and instructions, place in printed bag. Assembly line takes much less time than individually packaging and you make fewer mistakes. Samples would be good also, people have trouble visualizeing things in opaque bags. Maybe concidere constructing a large frog as a "table mascot ", attention getter. I used to paint wooden "Wecome" signs with seperate, changable decorative add ons. The wood bases were spray painted, en mass, then the designs were air brush painted using multiple stencils in an assembly line mannerThey sold in craft stores, where all makers had a permanent area and check out was centeralized. MUCH less stress.

I think your kits are a great idea and you are definitey on to something! I also feel like there is a bit of a disconnect between the cute, homespun-like bag and the image on it. I don´t know what it is exactly, but to me it looks very 1990s. For a hand-sewing kit in a sweet little jute bag I´d personally expect a bit more whimsy. Maybe consider having simple black line art drawings of the characters (also cheaper than a full colour transfer?) and a more nostalgic or stitched-looking font for the name. Put a red/green/tartan/etc. bow (and maybe a tiny jingle bell?) on it and I know this would sell very well over here. You can adjust for Easter with pastel bows, all sorts of bright colours marketed as birthday gifts, etc. I do admit that I don´t know the market and consumer-expectations where you are. Good luck!!! EDIT: A line art drawing would also enable you to change colours of the felt as needed/wanted without changing the packaging. I looked up images of animal felt forms and a little fox popped up - magenta body, lighter pink with polka dots in places where a real fox would be white. I nearly bought that one.

Five hundred is an awful lot of stock for your first show. I would have started at one hundred. They are so cute and I would love to k ow how your show went. I hope you sold out. Good Good luck with your new business.

I just had no idea what to expect, literally no clue 😂. I have 2 Christmas markets coming up end November and December. I'm looking into other felt crafts too, for variety and to use up all that felt 😲😂. Thank you for your kind comments

Hello.Those are so cute. I looked to see if you sold them through your channel, but you don't. I would have loved to purchase some. Find other ways to sell. Best of luck.

I think you did great ! It wasn't the right fair for you. Maybe try repackaging? Or can you have a craft fair at your home, just buy a small business license and set up one Saturday day after Thanksgiving.. . You will sell them, they are darling!

Oh 😢 I know how it feels. Don’t give up. You just need to find out what works. I have learnt that a visual display that pops and creates interest is important. I would make up large samples of the finished products to draw attention. You could also consider related products and accessories that go together. For example kids t-shirts with the print of the toy on them that are not so labour intensive. I was at a craft show recently and kids flocked to my stall to buy cute handbags to carry their small felt toys in they had purchased. Kids love accessories. I sell leather work and went to a lot of trouble to make my belts look uniform and neat. I didn’t sell one. Next market I took every belt and layered them all on the table. The big lump of leather caught the eye and interest of shoppers and I sold belts. 🤷‍♀️. You have plenty of stock so now add to it. I promise you will eventually sell everyone of those cute products.

Thank you so much for your kind words 💕. I must say I have been trying to wrack my brain to think of relevant things to go with them. At the Saturday markets I've done since this one I've added a few other items , they are felt but not related to the stuffies. I have a few other Saturday markets coming up and was thinking of how I can maybe bundle with some other relevant goodies to increase interest 🤔

@@Kreativfox no problem at all 😀. Perhaps the little bag they come in could be modified to become a bag to carry them around in once created. Have on display one out of the bag to show the bits and pieces of what’s inside. Now this is getting a bit outside the box, but in the instructions you could invite kids to email a pic of the completed stuffie and then in return email a birth certificate 🤔🤔🤔. Make up some tiny baby stuffies 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️. As I said don’t give up 👍

❤🙏🏻❤ I'm so very sorry, hopefully putting up this video will help. It's not your product, that's adorable! Market selling is tough, no two ways around it. I've been doing them for 25years and still have difficulty selling at some shows. Farmer's markets seem to be the best if there is a local one that isn't full of itself (charges more than $5 per day). Sometimes the country produce stand will let you set up next to them on weekends for free. Just a note about markets, at least in the US, they are put together by locals who just want to have a good time. They usually don't do advertising outside of their small community and have very little understanding marketing. If it's bigger, then it's usually too expensive to attend for small crafters. The best way to sell is either on a community platform like a local Facebook group or your own internet shop. Marketing is key, you need eyes to see your product. If you look at how much the big companies spend just on that, you'll see the scope of the issue. Yes, lots of crafters find items that sell miraculously but that's less than one percent of all crafters.

Thank you so much for watching and for your kind comments. For a day market here in Cape Town it's between R100 and R200, which is around your $5 to maybe $7 range. Othe.r. vendors seem to sell, but their product is more established. I agree 💯, marketing is key and they don't do alot of it. A few Facebook posts. We get their little ad to post on our social medias.

How much is R120? I am surprised you didn't sell anything, I thought they were adorable!!! I loved all the names you gave them!!! Don't give up!!!! You could also try making something else to go with them!!!! Little purses or something. Still think they were worth buying!
