Hello! I have been doing Amazing Flex now going on 3 years. First, the warehouse I go to. We drive into the building. They scan our driver license before we enter the building. Most of the time, we can choose our own routes. I always choose what's close to me. Sometimes they give us our routes and yep, you do go up to an hour away from your home. Its a pain. My warehouse now has morning blocks with the evening blocks. So almost double the money. Morning blocks are as early as 3:15am but its worth it to me. Amazon Flex is easier than what some people say. Just relax and have fun.
@IamDesireeSimone Жыл бұрын
Hey! Wow that's amazing and how great your warehouse is! I believe you are explaining regular Amazon blocks and not Sub Same Day. I have done and seen how regular Amazon blocks are and you are lucky to be able to pick yours when you can. For us, we can not. Also, we don't get a lot of offers, and thank you!
@CS-qc7np3 ай бұрын
I drive for my business too. Mileage is considered a standard deduction. In order to write off other things like maintenance, repairs, etc. you have make an itemized deduction. You can’t do both. And, you can’t flip flop back and forth between the two. The one you start with you have to continue with. If your tax preparer says you can, get a new one. Your tax preparer should give you a rough estimate of the self-employment taxes that you have to pay quarterly based upon the average you think you’ll make for the year. The last thing you want is the IRS to call you to the office for an audit. If that happens find a great tax attorney!

What a great video! You were so informative! I shared this with my nephew, who is contemplating doing the same job! FYI-when taking deductions for your vehicle, you can only do one of two things. Either the actual method which is gas, insurance, and repairs or the Standard method which is using the miles that you drove and getting whatever the governmental rate is for that year. You cannot do both. If you do the actual, you have to be prepared to keep all your receipts not only that if this job is your side hustle, you will not be able to deduct 100% of maintenance or insurance because you use the car for other purposes, you can only deduct the portion use for business purposes. So if you do Amazon flex 50% of the time than 50% can be deducted..

The most important part is what type of car you have. If you have a small car then you can save money on gas, yet you can't take on large routes which can take longer, but will bring you bigger pay. If you have a large car you will spend more gas. I guess the best way to figure it out is to try it out at least once or twice and see what your results are. I have a large suv and so it fits easily over 60 packages. I will try and see how much an entire day will pay me to see if it's worth it.

I run routes for an Amazon DSP part time and that is the only way to go. The cost of running your own vehicle eats too far into earnings. You can also make a lot more per hour working for a DSP. You are still paid by the route like Flex but the vans are set up to deliver out. I believe you delivered 26 stops in 3 hours. I can deliver 30 to 35 in 1 hour. Last weekend I had 180 stops and finished in just over 5 hours. The route pays $185 in OKC so that's $37 a hour and you don't have to worry about your personal vehicle. DSPs are the way to go.
@Sophist9909 ай бұрын
Not always I run Flex up here in the North east and DSP's up here (hourly wage not flat rate) will give you a 180 and when your finished they have you go grab bags from another driver to get your full daily hours in. So more work for nothing other then your 40 hr regular pay. Only found one DSP(no longer around) That no matter how long my rout took me I got paid the full day and they also only asked me to help with rescues when really needed like someone got hurt rolled an ankle or something. Even had one company when I first got into this they where taking flex routes from the DB and giving each of us a couple bags each from them and didn't pay anything more they didn't even tell us I found out from a dispatcher from there like a year later.
@arthurhauptman4499 ай бұрын
@Sophist990 maybe the labor laws are different in Oklahoma. If you are an hourly employee a company can do that but the DSPs here pay a flat rate for the routes. They can't ask you to pick up packages from another driver without paying you more. I've finished so early that I've offered to do rescues to make extra but they won't allow it.

@arthurhauptman4499 ай бұрын
@jayugly8284 I'm not trying to pick on you but if you're only averaging 21 stops an hour your doing something wrong. When I've trained people their average is better then that after the first few hours. I literally had that many stops this past Saturday and was done in 6.5 hours. The only reason it took that long was the person who picked my route (the person who sorts and packs the toats) did a horrible job putting it together.
@951Bigjosh11 ай бұрын
Flex is only good if you live close to the warehouse and have a truck or SUV. If you drive a car, the amount of off roading they expect you to do will tear it up underneath. I was in shock at some of the addresses they expected me to drop packages off at. lol Just put too many miles for too little money for my taste.

So, I just did my first day, from the same facility up to the West Side of Indpls. 3.5 hours 26 Stop, 74 miles from start/finish, $76. After inlcuding cost of gas, milage reimburstment, FICA Tax, Income Tax, everything, I avg $15.74/Hr. In my opinion, compared to the long term wear and tear on your vechile (which is a lonterm liability) it's not worth it. A tip for everyone that does any type of personal delivery jobs. Make sure your vehicle is gas efficient. If you drive a car that called for premium gas and take it and do amazon flex that's just stupid and you wasting your time and money. You would be paying more in gas than getting money. I would recommend any type of hybrids, Hondas, or Toyotas best choices because you will be saving a much as possible. Oh and don't forget to calculate this into your budget. Gas, vehicle maintenance , and wear and tears. I seen a lot of new people going in and doing this and not noticing any of these factors. Then they wander why they don't make money.

Especially if they have to be redelivered for some reason. So when that person got back to the facility and they saw the writing on the label, they had to bring the packages inside and relabel the packages. It could be different per area though. That's crazy. I do seasonal driving for UPS and the route is sooooo much better. Drive my car and usually do about 80-120 stops on avg, but in so much less time. Furthest I get from pickup is maybe 20 minutes. I do like how you're paid for your route, instead of hourly tho. 25 packages on my route and I'd make $75 in 30-40 minutes lol.
@IamDesireeSimone Жыл бұрын
I didn't know you can be an independent contractor with UPS and use your own car. Wow the furthest is only 20 minutes is not bad. Making $75 in 30-40 minutes sounds so much better though. Thank you for sharing!

It's not worth it. My first trip was an hour from the warehouse and it took me longer to get home. I was in the country and the gps was all messed up because of the turn here on a private road with no name. I was on so many dirt roads and kept wondering is this safe? Not worth it.

Short answer: No it’s not. Not after you spend money traveling to the pickup. Traveling to the destination to drop off which could be 40-50 miles out to then get started delivering for 4 1/2 hours at most usually. If you can snag the good contracts for 140 -200 you would be doing great. But that’s really rare now days with people using Amazon Bots to pick those up before any human possibly can.

I tried Amazon Flex for a little while and the 2 problems I had with it was not knowing the distance from the warehouse to the designated route. Which isn’t always too bad but can still be inconvenient for the pay. The other reason why I stopped was because I was doing deliveries with an average size sedan but each shift a few of my packages were larger boxes (car seats, dressers, etc) which made fitting the packages into my car quite the task.
@IamDesireeSimone Жыл бұрын
Definitely inconvenient for the pay if the route is bad. Oh wow you were getting those type of large boxes, I never had that happen. I have a Chevy Cruze so pretty similar size but yours a bit larger. But yea these reasons would definitely make you stop doing Amazon Flex. Thank you for watching!

I do hate not knowing the route before accepting. My first route was Carmel which i didnt care for because of the congestion of traffic and very busy area. I did have a 4 hour with 40 pkgs. I just completed a Fishers run it was only 12 stops in 5 hours so i was actually done and home 2 hours early. I also have a chevy cruze and am a little wary of long routes do to the amount of pkgs.
@IamDesireeSimone Жыл бұрын
Right, not knowing is so annoying. Oh hey! That was a lucky route for Fishers. Congrats and I hope when I do it again I get a route like that. Chevy Cruze twins lol. Yea those long routes are not fun. Thanks for watching!

Advanced Auto also has perk rewards that you can use at Shell Stations. I buy car parts, oil filters, and oil there every few weeks. The points will add up quickly throughout the year, and you can get anywhere up to $2-3 dollars off fillups. Buying your own oil will save you a ton, especially if u take it to Jiffy Lube/Pep Boys, etc. I usually pay $30 for an oil change here in NC. That's because i have my own oil.

the catch with this is most people drive with the same insurance they got when they bought their car, which you arent supposed to do. Most personal car insurance companies require you to purchase a commercial policy if you drive for a delivery company, and if you don't disclose that you drive for a company using your personal car like uber,lyft orAmazon Flex, your insurer may deny your claims and cancel your policy

I do Amazon Flex in Tallahassee Florida and what I do like is that the routes are great because your not going out the way to deliver the packages, it’s literally neighborhood to neighborhood, what I have learned is to never deliver outside your schedule time because it’s a pain getting compensated. Anything 1099 it’s more money going out but do find a strategy to were your not spending more money than your making.

bezos prices it so that youre juuuust making enough to hang on and after all the bs you make $15 an hour. youre supposed to do these jobs so that you will learn your worth no matter what and realize that for the small hassle it takes to do your own marketing and research you can make three times as much running your own business, but you'll have to believe in yourself and actually do the hard part. which amazon does for you but then takes 2/3rds of the money. so just accept that not everything in life is easy but if you can get over yourself and believe you are just as good as anybody else, you can just start your own business and make more money.
