It's not that the monogram isn't real leather, the handle and trims are always genuine leather but the bag itself is coated canvas for durability. Congrats on your beautiful keepall. That "belt thing" is to keep the handles together when you're carrying it. The epi print will always be the more understated, classier and chic option!
