Hi Irene! If you have one it's a good idea to keep it handy!

Hi! I'm the person on the catamaran. I'd love to see the raw footage. :)

Hi William. Sure no problem. The unedited footage is 300Gb though. How would you like me to get it to you?
@mmcholm3 жыл бұрын
Actually made a rar file that is 10Gb. If you post your email address here I can send it. I'll delete your email from the comments after.

This is a great learning tool! Any chance you can add closed captions for the bits where you talked on the radio or upload a radio chat video stitched together without the music?

Thanks J Dh. My GoPro didn't pick up any legible responses from Victoria Coast Guard Radio on the VHF as it was too windy. The communication exchange basically went down like this: Me: Called Kits Coast Guard Station (and Victoria answered). Gave my position, said a small catamaran capsized and two people were in the water. Coast Guard: Asked me to confirm that I was not in the water and say my position again. Me: Responded with that info and said that the crew of the ship was attempting to right the catamaran but that they had being trying repeatedly and the catamaran seemed unstable. Coast Guard: Asked me to stay on this channel (16). At this point a sailboat had started circling us so I used paddle signals to bring them over where I towed one of the swimmers to them and had him board their vessel. Me: Advised Coast Guard that both swimmers were out of the water (one on the original catamaran and the other on the sailboat "Balderdash"). Coast Guard: Asked me to confirm both swimmers were out of the water and to have Balderdash stay in the area and monitor Channel 16. Me: Confirmed that they were staying in the area and monitoring 16. At this point the Kits Coast Guard showed up, transferred the one swimmer from Balderdash to their vessel then towed the catamaran back to the Jericho Sailing Centre with one sailor on board the catamaran. I the heat of the moment my VHF protocol kind of went out the window. I should have started the call with "PAN PAN PAN PAN PAN PAN", then identified myself, then stated my position, stated the situation, then requested assistance from Kits station, followed by "OVER". I did all of the above except for the PAN PAN but it was a bit of a back and forth to get all the info communicated. The end was result was what I wanted (a CCG Boat from Kits) but now I'm brushing up on my VHF!
