Xenogears is another fantastic Square RPG from the era. Fun fact - it was originally drafted as FFVII. Imagine Evangelion + FFVII. Anyway, you just got a sub from me.

Pro tip. Dont play anything after 9. 10 jumped the shark, all the rest after that destroyed the shark and left his corpse on the beach to rot

From what I've seen of 10, it doesn't look too bad. 10-2 was weird as hell in comparison. The societal shift was very jarring.
