19th out of 85 is smoking fast for your first XC. The new season starts next weekend here in the States. This will be my 3rd consecutive full season. I love XC racing, even though everything the guy at the start of the video said is true -- from start to finish, you're in the hurt locker. But as a rider, racing XC has improved my skills, power, fitness, etc a hundred fold.

Nice one Jim!👍. Used to ride Cannock XC’s in the early nineties still looks the same. Your first lap reminds me of my motorbike enduro days, bust a gut to keep in there, then just go with the flow. 🤘

Pain, pain, pain!!!.. Did an xc race on a kona koa rigid, back in the nineties.. Finished 4th,but said I'd never do one again, nearly killed me!!!.. Never have either.. Good effort though Jim, made me remember how hard they are..

I rode xc in the mid 90's and approach all riding as if it is xc,don't push too hard at the start and find your rhythm, I'll be doing a 6hr endurance race in June, wish me luck.

Good advice from the fella with the on one, that bike looked mint! Tod looked like it hurt when he finished his race. Fire road sprinting and single track cruising. Still enjoy these events though.

Same course as the Dirty Duathlon. That was run - then ride - then run. Hardest thing I have ever done and I am a marathon runner. Well done on the race and the edit. Good stuff.

I’m one of those Lycra clad weirdos and I really enjoy Xc racing . I use Lycra because it doesn’t flap around like baggy stuff does. Great vid I think you went out too hard at start. I had to learn to NOT do that so I’d have more left during mid and end of race. I’m 62 yo

Great video, I unfortunately had my fist XC as a novice and had to sign up with the cat 1/pro guys who were all the lycra bros. Needless to say I got smoked and everyone was very clicky but man it was still hell of a great time just riding.

Well done Jim, 19th’s not shabby at all. Did a few XC races back in the day as something different to DH racing and like you, found it damned hard but strangely enjoyable. Frustrating getting held up on the downhill bits and frustrating getting smoked on the climbs!

Took me back to the 90s there. Did an East Midlands xc series around Sherwoood Pines . I thought I was fit but the lads destroyed me. Finished about 1/4 of the way down the order.....but I gave it up to save my sanity. Though last year I got the itch and entered the Wednesday night summer time trial at the pines. I was riding my own race, easing in but a massive burp on tubeless wrecked it..... Maybe this year.. 🤔
