Although I am not Newari or neither Tibetan descendant but I grew up with many Newari,Tibetan and both mixed race of Tibetan and Newari friends back home and I am very close to them until this day and age of my life.It is jewel and ancient both Tibetan and Newari culture.Both culture provides styles of delightful cuisine. Newari merchants who used to trade goods in Lhasa in old days have tied knots with many Tibetans.I know so many families in Kathmandu and they embrace both Newari and Tibetan culture and also they speak both languages.They are one of the unspoken and underrated mixed race of Kathmandu Nepal. I am very fortunate to know and to be friends with these families and I am proud of them.Thank you palden la for bringing Newari cuisine on your channel.

Palden la Tashi delek! It's really great that you show the Newari food. It's one of the authentic Nepali food. It has a historical significance with Tibetan people that we call this "Newari Boe" as " Bhalsa Titsuen Boe"( Princess Bhirkuti Royal dish) specially in Tsongdu town of Nyanang, Tibet (Kuti in Nepali) and in some dignitaries house hold of Lhasa city, people make this dish during Losar occasion and we have tradition of giving and receiving "BOE" from each other house hold with Khapsey, tea,chang etc. We still have this tradition in Nyanangpa house during Losar of making Boe and in some occasions. This dish is real respect to relationship between Newari and Tibetan people, Specifically to Princess Bhirkuti who not only introduced Buddhism to Tibet but her dish from Nepal " Bhalsay Boe".

Princess Bhirkuti must of been the first wife of King Songtsen Gampo. Food can remind us 100 year old history which we sometimes forget.

There are many Tibetans women who married Newari in Tibet , Newari traders were in Tibet before 1959. There are many Tibetans who has great grandparents Newari, there are some Tibetan who still have Newari surname. Mixed parents of Newari and Tibetan are called kha - za-ra.

Newari cuisine is very nutritious and spicy and I’ve seen in older days these newari people used to live forever and they love their alcohol everyday and this community are the real settlers of Kathmandu until people from hilly region invaded the city and predominantly by the Brahmin community and that’s how newar lost its city to outsider because Brahmins were more smarter, cunning and educated and took all government jobs and only helping their community with vast corruption they robbed the development of the country.
