Nice one! I used to fish that lake when I lived about 10 minutes away, but never fished the derby. I also knew a Kiwani past President, who coached my daughter's swim team years ago. Time to start adding catch & cooks to your lineup. This location also has decent camp sites for your survival vids. Enjoy filling up on turkey with your family.

You should try using a spinner lure, like a Roostertail or Panther Martin, or a spoon for trout fishing. The strike is the best part!

Faith when you are spinning for fish think of a fan shape in the water. Like a Spanish fan you use for cooling down in the heat. Cast parallel with the left bank. Do two casts in the same place each time. Slowly moving from left to right. Starting parallel with the left bank until you end up parallel with the right bank. Moving your spinner a metre at a time to the right. We use this method in Atlantic Salmon fishing in Ireland. And you cover every spot possible from the river bank. It's called fanning out. Believe me it works.

Trout like garlic power bait. Power bait likes to float. Use a sinker. Two feet above baited hook. From shoreline cat tails. Cast 20feet to 60feet. Let sit for 20 minutes. So, the garlic power bait. Floats off the bottom of lake. Trophy trout like to swallow bait. They also like swimming around. With the bait in their mouth. Next to all wild trout. Learn how to pick bait.

I agree. I used to fish a lot of lakes with planted rainbows and powerbait would catch them every time. I think it’s similar to the pellets they are used to eating at the hatchery they come from.

The best thing about fishing is when you see other people excited about what they catch. It doesn't matter what it is or how big -- they're just excited nonetheless and it's an awesome thing to witness. That was a great looking trout and it really is an awesome throwback to growing up and being involved in fishing tournaments with stocked trout. Glad you didn't get skunked. The next one will be even bigger, too.

yeah, that channel everyone was at is probably a hot spot. the problem with those areas is with all the fishing pressure there. if there's 50 people in the area you have a 1 in 50 chance of a fish, if you're in a area by yourself you are 100 percent going to be the one catching fish in that area. Some hotspots though pay off even with a lot of people especially saltwater. or spawning time. The main thing is you had a good time, and you didn't get skunked. that fish will make a excellent dinner. All wins.
