I finally had success with my breeding pair of P. laticauda! In this video, I introduce two new hatchlings and set them (and two more eggs) up in 16oz deli cups. Hoping for plenty more babies in the future!

Lots of geckos in my house, they hang around the lights to eat bugs. They make a very loud call too. All natural, I don't interfere with them at all.

LOVE THIS IDEA!! I recently got my first pair of Williamsi and my female laid her first egg. Unfortunately, it's glued to underneath the lip of the enclosures' cover, so I'm waiting for some egg tubes that I ordered to come in soon. But anyway, you have awesome content, dude. And you've helped me in finding an inexpensive yet effective way of keeping hatchlings for the time being. Keep up the good work!

Have any recommendations on how to get some CGD off a flighty neon day hatchling? Lol I figured he would be fine with it in there but yeah.. he fell in. He's fine other than I feel bad for him trying to rub it off his chest and tummy. Just sprayed his enclosure down best I could and hoping he rubs it off himself 🤷 oy.

I understand this is an old video but I was wondering if you could answer a question for me, I can't find an answer anywhere... at what week of incubation do you see movement when candling? Mine have been moving alot (given to me for free at a pet store) and I'm wondering how old these eggs might be due to the fact that the person who gave them to me with the purchase of my female wasn't even aware there was eggs and just wanted them gone..

@AfroHerpkeeper
@AfroHerpkeeper 7 жыл бұрын
This species as well as giant day geckos can be pretty hardy and have fairly simple care - about the same as a crested gecko + a need for UVB light. I'd say they make pretty good starters, but they aren't good for handling and can be very fast

I've got two breeding pairs and five or six hatchlings right now, so I imagine you'll see more in the future! I'd recommend looking for local reptile expos or browsing the classifieds at kingsnake.com if you live in the states and want to try getting this species. Just remember that day geckos are display animals, and you can never do too much research!

Why would the babies not be able to stay in the larger tank? What is the purpose for moving them to those tiny cups, other than space saving??
@AfroHerpkeeper
@AfroHerpkeeper 6 жыл бұрын
Adults will cannibalize the young! The cups are a good size to ensure the smallest babies manage to catch their prey, but babies can also be housed in a communal tank with others of the same size. They have to be separated once they reach maturity, or the males will become territorial.
@hayhay8347
@hayhay8347 6 жыл бұрын

Hi. Is this species normally captive bred, or wild caught? Were your adults wild?
@AfroHerpkeeper
@AfroHerpkeeper 7 жыл бұрын
You can usually find both WC and CB individuals... This species is actually an invasive species in a few places, including the Hawaiian Islands, and they breed very readily. I purchased mine from an expo, so I'm not entirely certain of their origins. Wherever they're from, they do very well in captivity and they're definitely lessening the impact on wild populations by producing new CB babies.
