Thanks. I plan on revisiting this race this coming March. Not nearly as timid this time around. 9 races? Wow. I don’t think I have that many in two years. Last year was a bad year for riding in general. Only did one hare scramble and fractured my leg on first lap. It was muddy and rocky. Heel clipped a rock around a bend and it shoved my femur into my tibia. Good times. Got to do an enduro in November. 70 miles of sandy whooped out south jersey single track. Things like that it’s just a mental game to finish it cause they are punishing. But I did it. No cameras allows at that event so I just have the good old fashioned memory of it.

Which one? Also you will be in my class. I’m already registered with D6 and the ECEA. I should be at this race as long as the weather isn’t stupid cold. It’s not the cold so much as the frost in the ground making things slick. I should also be at Ormond Farms hare scramble in New Jersey in May. That’s an ECEA event. I prefer enduros though so I will probably do more of those. That’s all day riding and your not constantly being run over lol.

I'm impressed. good job. I remember my first race. I was going around a corner as fast as humanly possible and then an expert passed me on the outside of the corner, probably 30 miles an hour faster than I was going. I was boggled, he made me look like I was stopped. It does get easier, but it takes practice and more raced.
@PennsylvaniaDualSport
@PennsylvaniaDualSport 6 жыл бұрын
Pat Farrell I had that problem more at the Enduro although there was no where to pass really. A lot of those guys were ridiculously fast you couldn’t get out of the way quick enough. This place.. with how cold it was in the morning and the clay base made it slick it spots for what seemed like no reason.. hence my front end wash out fall just like you did. The water in the clay started to unfreeze but it was still hard as a rock just now a little wet. People said “it’s going to be rocky”. I laugh at that now that I’ve been there.

Great job on your first race and thanks for sharing it with us. One thing I see over and over again is people's lack of hill climb skill. So many hare scrambles come to a dead stop at the bottom of every hill and we are not talking about red bull Romaniacs type hills. I gotta add more hill climbs to my list to work on.

Nice ride for your first race. You guys have my respect for racing in that kind of temperature. It gets cold here in Texas but we typically don't get temps like that to race in. I'll give you a few pieces of advice for your next race. First, don't follow the guy in front. Try to stay out of the same line. It's not always possible but if that rider goes down, you're either a wreck on a wreck or you're waiting for that rider to get out of the way. Second, look as far as you can out in front. It gives your brain more time to process the information so you can react faster. The farther you look, the faster you'll go. Third, don't limit yourself to the main groove. There are other lines that aren't worn in and most offer more traction. Fourth, don't wait at bottlenecks. Pick a spot that doesn't have someone in it and go. And last (and this one goes with the fourth), once you commit to a line, maintain momentum and balance. Most really difficult lines can be overcome by maintaining your speed....oh, and stand up as much as you can. In a two hour race, your ass will thank you. Besides that, you can move the bike around and maintain balance more in root and rock infested areas. Have fun and stay safe!!

Dwayne Copeland thanks for the constructive criticism. I was way too timid and well.. frigid.. at the time. Wasn’t even fully adjusted to a 300 two stroke coming off of a dual sport. The only thing that was against me was me. Hoping for a better time thus season. I’ve done a few Enduro’s since which he basically 60 miles of single track so I’ve built up stamina and confidence now.

It's kind of funny how things work... I found your channel a little over a year ago when I was shopping and ultimately purchased a 250L. I remember when you posted yours was stolen. Some time after that, I traded mine on a cb500x. Due to some health issues, I retired from riding on the roads and sold that bike a few months after I bought it. I just got a new yz250fx and the thought of a hare scramble/gncc type race intrigues me. I'm 43, so I'm no spring chicken... and I have a lot of training and getting in shape in front of me... but I may consider giving this a shot next spring! The search lead me right back to your channel. I too am in Pennsylvania... way down in the left bottom corner though... lol. Still enjoying your videos! Thank you for sharing!

You’ve come full circle then. So have I in a way. I no longer have the bike in this video and for a while have had none. Missed having a dual sport more than having a dirt bike so I’ll be picking up a friends DR650 soon. I did like to test myself in these “competitions” though. Just finishing an enduro at my level is an accomplishment. I highly recommend doing one of them over a hare scramble although there’s nothing wrong with either. The different being at a hare scramble you’ll get run over repeatedly by the same guy vs just once lol. I’ll get more use out of the dual sport. I can ride to work and still trail ride. It’s already properly suspended with a bunch of other helpful items. I’ll just try not to herniate myself picking it up. It’ll be some time before I get a second bike again but when I do I was thinking the Honda 250x. Best of luck to you if you get a chance to try an event this year. Not a good year for racing at all

My first try was at New Bethlehem, Pa. at a AHRMA hare scramble. It was cold too, never stopped rainning! My signature looked like I was having a seizure after sleeping in my trailer that night. It was a muck!! I'm 62,and my bike is a 78-79 Bultaco Frontera. It's been many years since I've been in the dirt,I've been doing track days for the last 18 years on road courses. And I was having issues with my bike. I gave up and watched with a beer ! Second attempt was at Mid Ohio vintage days, again issues with my bike. Spent a lot of time kicking witch was frustrating. Crashed 4 times in two laps. But it was the kicking afterwards ! Motor is out now,was down below 50lbs compression. rings seized . But I also had to split the case for bearings. So I'll try again next year with a fresh motor @ 63 years young !

Daniel Lander good for you sir for being out there. I ride with a few guys in their 60’s although they dare not attempt a race. I got started late in life. My wife and I bought two dual sports in 2015. Things snowballed from there. So now we have them plus proper dirt bikes. Even our 10 year old daughter rides now. I hope we’re still riding when we get to your age. Keep at it but most of all.. have fun doing it.

Don’t apologize man! No problem answering you’re questions 👍 I ride a 300 2t Beta. It was very new to me at the time here and was coming off a 250 dual sport that I was trail riding. So there was quite a bit of acclimation to be had. I ride it a lot better now and even have done a few Enduros over the summer. My wife also did two races for the first time as well. Now we’re both addicted even if in reality we’re not going to do well.. it’s just for the fun of it. Deepening on the weather I may do this one again. It was below freezing when this race started and my hands went numb. My wife started this in our 40’s with only a few years riding experience in all.. its never too late to do this stuff. There is a saying: its better to ride a slow bike fast, rather than ride a fast bike slow. That 300 is too much power for beginners. However, your out there having fun...all that counts. Great job.
@PennsylvaniaDualSport
@PennsylvaniaDualSport 2 жыл бұрын
Nah dude. Power wasn’t an issue. I was the issue. This was 4 years ago. The 300 isn’t about being fast. It’s a low end bike. Exactly what I wanted. It’s perfect for just about everything though. As far as this event yes - I was very timid. Also freezing. It was 18°. In my 40’s coming from cruising around on a dual sport to a hare scramble on a dirt bike. It was an experience to say the least. I haven’t been there since but I’ll be there this March. My last race was oxbo hare scramble in 2019 however I got a fractured leg at that one. I don’t do them often as I like all types of riding. More for the physical challenge than being competitive. Already signed up for the Greenbriar enduro in two weeks too.

Max Dracha Hi Max. A good resource for all the questions you could ever want is the East Coast Enduro Association website (ECEA). On the homepage you can click on the newbie link and read up. In short, a C rider in his 30’s could register as C Veteran.. 40’s C Senior, 50’s C Super Senior and so forth. Alternatively you can also class yourself by bike size which would lump you in with everyone in a C class within that displacement regardless of age. I haven’t done an event in a little while but this Sunday I’ll be racing the HDMR Sprint Enduro in Catawissa, PA. You can google that to find the flyer if interested.
