So glad you’re fly fishing! Bobber down videos are getting a little over saturated. What weight rod were you running?

My dad and uncles fished for king's but they were subsistence fisherman they went to the filet knife not back in the water. Crazy man it looks hella hard fly fishing those, congrats!

Hey what river do you fish on
@Scratcher19603 жыл бұрын
Always wet your knot with saliva before you tighten. Cinching up a dry not weakens the line and causes breaks

Thanks for the video - Im taking my sons up to the salmon river in a couple of days for us all to fish for salmon the first time. I hope to catch a king on a fly rod but I'm also bring up a casting and spinning rig set up similar to how a fly rod is set up. Keep fishing!

Salmon fishing leader needs to be only 2-3 feet. Those fish are not leader shy like trout. 15 lb tippet is fine, but depending on the water clarity can go down to 10-12. I like lighter tippets only because you snag flies on logs and rocks and if using too heavy a tippet the entire leader is lost instead of only the fly. But fly fishing for salmon and steelhead is the most fun but challenging way to go. Kudos for giving it a go!

Man it was such a learning curve!! I definitely give credit to fly fishermen! I love the challenge, my next goal is a steelhead on the fly! I appreciate the tips 🤙🏽

great video. When they run you have to let em go. Horsing them in usually ends up breaking them off or bending the hook.

Swinging FLIES for kings is the BEST way to catch them kings for me. I love it when im just swinging and they set the hook themselves by taking OFF! If you are swinging just make sure you have a slight bend in the line and at the end of the swing, let it dangle around for a few seconds just incase. Make 90 degrees cast. If there is a big bend on you line then that means you are not swinging right. Keep rod low and parallel to water. You seem to be getting it down already. Tight lines!

I appreciate the tip! I definitely will be going back out and will keep practicing. I had a hookup where the king literally almost took the rod out of my hands! Haha

@@VinTheFishingMan yep, and swinging flies u get 95% hook ups in the mouth. But apparently salmon don't bite. Haha. Any colors work as well.

I went to Salmon River last long weekend. I got too hits Saturday morning on my fly rod. And the next morning I changed to a spinning rod and I caught a big King. It’s a really fighter. It broke fifteen tip maybe only ten seconds later. I would rather use a fly rod than a spinning. So let me know your flies please. I planned to go again next month. It’s quite a view even only watching anglers fighting with them. Thanks for your wonderful video!

Your 1st mistake is using big split shots. Use smaller one and not more than 4 on that water level. 2nd everytime you hook into a fish you want to keep your fly rod tip up and never sideways. I've been smashing kings, coho and skamenia in Grand Rapids Michigan all week long. If you place your fly rod sideways you will end up ripping the fly out as the fish rolls. Keep it up bro and good job right there. Oh and 3rd never keep taking the fish out of the water One time is enough 🤙🤙🤙

Don’t ever put your hands on the rod always on the cork because with so much pressure on the rod it can break the rod easily
