Amen on that I still remember the first time riding in the rain and the first time a big bug hit and that was over 15 years ago you dont realize how much that can hurt until your doing 60 on a bike.

James, congratulations on the new bike. Have you ever thought about taking a MSF (motorcycle safety foundation) course. Your local Harley dealer can give you some great info on it and its relatively cheap if not free. It will help you get comfortable on your bike and teach you some great skills so you can get out there and enjoy the Street Glide even sooner...safely. Ever member of the military that rides a motorcycle is required to take multiple MSF courses. Counter-steering isn't something that is going to come the easiest on a heavy bike while in first gear. For a bike name: Roll-on-wheels. Great video!

When making low speed turns apply a little rear brake and feather your clutch a little. You will find the bike to be much more stable and you will have better control. Take a riding course, it will pay off.
@kbrett2004

Man, you went big for a first bike huh? Enjoy that rascal. Just remember, the rear brake is your friend in slow speed manuvers, that front brake will be a great way to drop it. Had to laugh when you said "I don't want to change a thing." Famous first words of everyone who has ever owned a bike, and at the end you said gotta order some parts. Love it! California (particularly SoCal) is great for M/C riding. I had an FJR that I rode all over (Cali, Nevada, Oregon) until we had kids. Have a blast on that beast. You’ll be able to cruise long distances on that thing. Just be careful lane splitting. That’s a wide bike to slip through traffic when you’re not an experienced rider.

VERY nice bike! Okay, so the main thing I learned after taking the MSF course is that I wasn't yet ready for a Harley! The classic beginner bike is a used Honda Rebel 250/300 (there are a number of KZbin videos affirming this) - but experienced bikers were telling me that I'd be ready to sell that right away if I bought one. I'm 6' 4" and nearly 300 pounds. And I could see that myself - a Honda was just too small. So, with an eye to someday buying a Harley Road King (it was love at first sight in a Harley dealership) I bought a 2008 Suzuki Boulevard M50 with bags in very good shape - 600 lbs., 800cc engine. $3,180. It's sort of like a junior Road King. I have put about 1,200 miles on that in a little over two months because I ride it compulsively as often as I can. I deal with the weight of the bike quite easily, and have taken long rides with it as well as in stop and go city traffic and riding at interstate speeds. I haven't dropped it yet, and putting my wife on the back and riding her around is no longer a concern. I have developed confidence with this bike but am still wary (not fearful) when I ride. Last month I test rode a Harley Road King and a Harley Street Glide with no problems. It was like stepping out of a VW Bug and driving a Cadillac! That big heavy touring frame and powerful engine is very balanced, stable and confidence-building; I was doing 50 in third easily. (My Suzuki struggles at 70 - 75 mph and seems to want a sixth gear.) I loved it. NOW I think I'm ready for a Harley! But... perhaps I'll give myself another six months or even a year from my graduation from the MSF class. I am, after all, 62 and have never ridden before. Ride safe everyone and wear all the gear all the time.

head and eyes dictate where the bikes goes . 3 most important tips.......head and eyes (where you look is where you go), clutch friction zone when low speed (helps keep power to rear wheel @ low speeds, and rear brake to help stabilize the motorcycle while in low speed turns. 850+ lbs is intimidating for sure tho. Nice bike!

Congratulations. Great bike. You got the bike I would have bought if I was starting over. Definitely take the MSF course. It will make your rides much more enjoyable and could save your life. The comments about this being a reach for a beginner are all valid. Especially at lower speeds. An 800 pound bike can get away from you in a hurry. Ride defensively, keep your intervals behind other vehicles, and look! look! look! for other cars. Not a fan of names for bikes so I won't offer a suggestion. It's kind of like a tattoo. Unless you get it dead solid perfect, later on, you'll regret it. LOL. Stay safe and welcome to the Harley family.

Great looking bike. You will have to learn to position your bike in a location where you don't have to back this thing up. If you can park on an upward slope and let the gravity do the work for you.

I was hesitant at first because I really wasn't a Harley guy, but I'm glad I took the MSF at the dealer. The bikes we used were 500lb 500cc bikes. They're by no means a crotch rocket in speed or a bagger in weight, but they definitely gave me more confidence to ride a bigger bike. I didn't buy new for my first bike but I don't matter, you're going to be pissed weather you drop a new or used bike. My first bagger will either be a Road Glide (nose and lights look like Bender from Futurama) an Indian or something BMW.

A bit much for your first, but it does look good. And I know you said you wouldn't change a thing, but that is just the beginning. You'll be changing small things here and there at first, then it will become an addiction. Be careful from a RGS rider. Welcome to the HOG family.

Just watched the vid. I’m thing about getting the 2020 street glide special. As my very first bike. I’m 6’0 and 175. Have you dropped her yet? That’s my only concern about getting a street glide is the weight!

Beautiful Bike my man! But honestly, might be a bit too much machine for you at the moment, especially if your only experience is a dirtbike at 8 and a quad. Take it from a guy who almost dropped his 1130cc Harley in the middle of traffic several times after buying it with no prior experience. I decided there is still a lot to learn and I went down to a 700cc. Took me 12 years of riding to be ready for my current 1700cc bagger. And even still I've almost bitten on some corners. Something to consider, just trying to keep you safe out there brother

That's good, always practice what you learned in MSF. But just to be clear, a grom is only about two and a half gears on a Harley Street Glide. So just don't get too comfortable thinking you are still on a grom. Can't afford to see another rider flat on the road. Be safe
