I love these companies provide plug&play solutions for the mass consumer. but as soon as you bought this box, it just works, and you don't touch it, forget about it. but if you decide to build your own nas on ubuntu or arch, you will have a lot to learn and it will make you a different person. so if you are not an average and you still need a nas, try converting your old laptop or whatever, don't buy expensive prebuild systems and 4x18 TB drives, etc. Just make it work. there is a huge linux community waiting for you, and you will learn a lot)

Eventually having a fleet of random external hard drives becomes too much of a pain in the ass to deal with and switching to a NAS to consolidate your storage needs is the way to go. Welcome to the club. Running useful docker containers and VMs on the NAS as well is also another very useful function these modern NAS devices can do nowadays.

I recently got a TerraMaster F4-424 Pro as my first NAS, so I enjoyed the video and would like to see more of this type of content. That being said, I think videos like this will almost always get fewer views than smartphone/laptop/mobile tech videos, because SO MANY MORE people have a smartphone or laptop than a NAS or homelab. And that first group has tech that is easier to understand and faster buying cycles than the 2nd group. So, people are looking for "new info" on those consumer topics more often. However, you seem like someone who ENJOYS the tech/homelab stuff ("normal" people don't use Tailscale), so perhaps you should embrace that? Disclaimer: I am NOT a KZbinr and don't have to worry about "The Algorithm", so I may have No Idea what I'm talking about.

This was a great video, I want to do something similar I don't need the storage you have but I'd like to keep my plex server in it and back up videos and pics of my family in it.

On the desktop, click tnas logo (start) then click All Applications. Find Terminal and right click 'send to desktop' if that doesn't work let me know

How do you setup portainer? Not finding anything specific for Terramaster. Installed the app but all you get is a log in splash screen. No idea what the user/password is.

You might as well go full unifi(ubiquity). They released a NAS recently and it would work well with their end to end network setup (expensive though).

I saw but not a fan how most of their stuff is rack based and until I own a home or settle down I’ll just use more consumer oriented network solutions

@@DayoAworunse True. They do have a mini rack witch wheels included 😂

Nas = Network attached storage and service center. A local Nas is used for storeing data instead of useing cloud based solutions. It can preatty much do anything even gameing.
