This is so enlightening! I am from Tasmania, Australia and I go to the only private residential college at the University of Tasmania, Jane Franklin Hall - a very unique college and the only one of its kind in the state. It is modelled after the Oxbridge model so we have formal dinners with academic gowns etc. but we also have beautiful Gardens and park benches on the grass. My bedroom has water views of the river and the accommodation offered by the uni itself has none of this. I also loved the alchemy bottle reference because we house a small (very small) medical museum in the bottom of one of the buildings (which I also work at in the one paid student position they offer) so we have displays with this sort of stuff in it). Obviously, I knew my college was modelled after the Oxbridge model but it's actually more similar than I would have expected

Nothing to be scared about - they hyped up the exams to be hard but you could get away with night before revision - don't do that tho lol. I say start revising after Christmas - try to enjoy year 11!

This university is just so amazingly beautiful! Love all of the gardens, what wonderful places to read and study! I write historical romance and many of my characters have gone to Oxford of course back in the 1800's Regency/Victorian eras. I'm from the US and have never been to tp the UK, so how lovely to see this beautiful University, thanks for sharing it with us! Soso happy for you!

I've been OBSESSED with sub fusc ever since Mamma Mia: Here we go again! Although I don't go to Oxford (nor ever will; I live across the pond), I too put together a sub fusc outfit by going to the mall and thrift stores: white blouse (which came with a black ribbon tie of the same material!), black skirt and dress pants, black blazer, black cardigan, and black socks and tights. Even though I have a ribbon tie, I'm still probably going to order the official black velvet ribbon from the online Oxford store, since it's not as thick and is only 1 metre long vs. the 1.5 metre one that came with my blouse, along with the mortarboard and gown (even though I still have my black high school graduation mortarboard from 2008).

college is from the age of 16-18 so its 2 years, then you do A level exams which determine what university you go into

Oxford (and Cambridge) are split are both collegiate universities. This means each university is composed of several colleges. When you apply, unless you choose to apply without a preferred college, you apply to a specific college and not the uni in general. Every college has all the main subjects, only very niche subjects won't be done in every college but colleges differ in architecture, who the fellows are, facilities etc.

There are 38 Oxford colleges, which are financially independent and self-governing, but relate to the central University in a kind of federal system. There are also six permanent private halls, which are similar to colleges except that they tend to be smaller, and were founded by particular Christian denominations. The colleges and halls are close academic communities, which bring together students and researchers from different disciplines, cultures and countries. This helps to foster the outstanding research achievement that has made Oxford a leader in so many fields. The colleges and the University work together to organise teaching and research, and many staff at Oxford will hold both a college and a University post Hope that helps.
