The VAM Morgan definitely saved it for me! Paid $50, low cost on grading, and it's a $310 coin. Gives me lots of hope for all the Morgan's I have in grading now!

Thanks for watching! If you notice on the back of the label, under the PCGS logo it says "Genuine Ungradeable". When you submit coins you have the option of holdering coins even if they are "ungradeable" for whatever reason. I decided to this time because regardless of grade I wanted them in slabs for my first submission.

Yeah these were all crap shots mostly, but regardless the sting is real! I've got 2 submissions with18 coins in total there now currently in grading. Almost all Morgan's. Those will definitely be tough to not peek at! If you haven't already, check out the video of my Morgan collection I bought. That's what I'm in the process of grading now!

The more times i see coins come back from pcgs the more i am glad i don't waste money justifying what i already know about the coins i own. Treasure hog, if you want grades on toners, submit them to NGC they are super fair on toners. Unless you have a built in group of people that buys from you, it is hard to make your money back from grading. The longer you look at coins and study what to look for, you can tell what a coin should be graded at. BUT if you are happy with what you have that is all that really matters. so i say congrats and enjoy them!

Yeah this first round was mostly for training purposes, so I sent in some I was completely up in the air on. My Morgan's however, if I get hosed on those I'll definitely rethink my grading future!!

Good video. My first PCGS submission resulted in about the same. 20 Morgans and Peace. 2 morgans with questionable color which is ridiculous. 2 cleaned that I just don't see it. A couple that I thought were MS turned out AU. Rest ok. Nothing surprisingly good.

My understanding of most of the smaller denominations like the 3 cent silver, 3CN, bust half dimes seated half dimes etc is that a lot of them are "bent." They're so small and thin that they just got abused in circulation. That 3CN is really nice though. So is the mercury dime from what I can see in the video. Harshly seems harsh lol.

Yeah, the "HARSHLY" cleaned was a bit much for my ego! But oh well. Getting the grades I did on those Morgan's gives me really high hopes for my other submissions though! If those come back cleaned you may see me on the evening news at PCGS Headquarters.

Each coin is looked at by 4 to 6 graders. If they say cleaned, then it's cleaned. Pennies are harder to tell than nickels, clad or silver coinage. "Bent" details means when a coin shows a non-mint-made curvature when viewed on the end. When the strike is made the coin gains a slight curve. Working on getting a coin grading certification, you learn a hell of a lot you never knew. Still Treasure Hog it was a good video. 👍

Great info! That bent grade threw me for a loop! Of the 4 straight grades my total value is $555, so I still came out ahead. The 1879 VAM was the big winner!

Bro, the coins they grade as cleaned and ungradable, just bust them out and put them in plastic snap cases... If they come back as cleaned, feel free then to dip them or whatever... Throw the company cases away and forget about them... (by the way, it cost you a bundle to become a platinum member, so that wasn't really free, was it?) If you really want to know the grade of a coin, take it to a local coin person or shop who you trust... it is hard in the beginning, but trust your instincts and pay less than you think it is worth when you buy... next, do not pay what the grey sheet or red book says it is worth, because it just isn't... think in terms of wholesale, because you don't really sell at retail very often... good luck... and forget about them grading companies.... they are in the business of taking your money... Either just buy coins that have already been graded... or NEVER buy a coin which has been...

Thanks for the advice! Yes definitely not "free" submissions by any stretch, but the hobby for me personally has grown into the desire to find coins that I can turn around and pay for grading and still sell for a profit. It's just a hobby, so as long as I don't lose money I'll be happy (of course getting the bs grades doesn't help!) I knew going into it with this first set of coins there would be some issues, so I'm fine with it. Now, the Morgan's I'm in process of grading is a different story. Bigger investment all around, but I'll do well if they come back with straight grades. This first submission will tell me if I should move forward with submitting the rest or not. I'm expecting them back this week or next, so another video is coming soon. As for what I pay, it's definitely never retail or what greysheet says. I only use the PCGS website for research and pricing/valuation purposes. They aren't for my personal collection, so if it's not a good deal I walk away.

And that is why I don’t use PGCS for grading my coins. They are inconsistent and they use of questionable methods to grade coins and then use very subjective , with some of their reasons being, description and the toning and cleaning of coins to make them ungradable I personally think that NGC , for my money, is definitely the best grader in the business.
