I moved from a YT Decoy to Trek Fuel EXe. I like the Trek a lot more. As you said it's much more maneuverable. It rides like a normal MTB. If I could have 2 bikes I might do a normal MTB and full power, but I can only have 1 and my old ass needs assistance many days, and the Trek is just more fun most of the time. I do miss effortless climbing and plowing through rock gardens sometimes.

I'm pretty happy with the SL eMTB. I dont really want to ride full power eMTB anymore, I don't see the point. They are pointlessly heavy, just so they can save a minute on the climbs. I'm more into the high quality descent than the speediest climb ever. The 6k of vert the Shuttle SL gets me is good enough- especially at 42 or so lbs.

You could do the climbing trail up to the Vanilla trails at least twice in the "trail" mode on an SL, and you could still hit all the same jumps and such on the SL as you would on the meat powered bike. With a heavy e-version and you'll find yourself much more wheels on the ground. If jumping and handling and maneuverability is important, go SL. If you want enough battery to run full boost and barely pedal, and don't mind wheels on the ground, then go heavy.

Alex, I rode a size L in Spain for a day. It was good, but I couldn't adapt to the super slack head tube angle, and the low BB was a bummer. Mountain biking & racing seem like they are constantly changing. I started racing in 1991 & stopped in 2001. Back then, suspension was new & short on movement. Often you used the same bike for XC, downhill & dual slalom events. Towards the end of my run pre-redbull rampage guys were hucking themselves off cliffs & wadding up like Josh Bender & 24 hour races were all the rage. Nowadays, it looks like people are racing e-bikes uphill. It's always interesting to see what people come up with as things change. I would like to see more polarizing personalities enter the newest era however. Back then Tomac, Rockwell, Palmer, Overend brought a massive spotlight wherever they went. I don't see that happening currently but maybe I'm just too far removed who knows? Either way, great content Jeff love the diversity of the channel 🤙

It's not just assist, it's the way they handle. The amount of wear and tear on brakes, tires, drivetrain etc. the mid powered bikes are still fast on the climbs. It's not like they barely do anything. Plus they look good. Full powered e bike looks ugly and dorky as fuck. Plus the gap in power between mid power and full power is shrinking. Mid used to 50nm of torque. They are at 60 nm now. If anything in a few years, the full power and mid power might merge into one and meet in the middle. Nobody wants to lug around a 55-60lb bike

Emtb riders need to keep themselves in check. I was climbing up a steep rocky climb a few weeks ago and fell over 3/4 of the way up. It's a narrow trail with very little trail to step aside. The tool on an emtb starts yelling at me to move out of his way. It took all of my inner strength not to just push him off his bike and take off. If I run into another emtb turd like that again in the future, it may end really bad for one of us. Emtb riders need to calibrate themselves that we mtn biker do not have the extra power.
