Love the opening sequence. Good video man. Wish I would have made it. So try to focus on brake markers. Get them set. Then depending on when the guy in front brakes let’s u know if u can pass him and still make the corner or not. Sometimes it’s worth following and seeing where other people brake and then make your move. But good shit man. Glad u got to spin some laps and make some passes.

I guess I'll give some insight into my other post about preperation. All skill task comes from the sub- conscious and on track for sure qualifies as a high level skill task. Your mind can not operate in conscious and sub at the same time so just the fact you left or forgot a pcs / part, gear whatever you might need for the event will have you in a conscious state. Track layout and race-line are the very thing your mind will sub-consciously not be able to access while your consciously aware your not fully prepared. Here's something we've all done hundreds if not thousands of times. Next time it's raining like hell consciously think about running from your vehicle and getting the key straight in the lock, almost impossible. Yet if you don't even think about it the muscle memory skill will be accessed and the key hits the lock perfect. There is an incredible book called " with winning in mind" by Lanny Bassam. He's trained more gold medal winning athletes than anyone else in history. It's all about preperation, affirmations, visualization and extracting your full potential from your sub-conscious. Good Luck with your race season

Thanks for posting the video, it made for great lunch break content. I've never ridden this track but I noticed a couple things. 1) Identify brake markers, you're over slowing and coasting into some corners and missing/rushing other corners. 2) Study the track map and identify entry vs. exit corners. There are several times you're trying to stuff someone on the corner entry and completely kill any exit drive and immediately get passed by them. Exit corners are typically followed by a straight or full throttle section. On these corners it's OK to sacrifice corner speed for bike position and direction to ensure a good drive. On most exit corners, the slowest point of the corner will be before the apex, you get the bike slowed and pointed then you get on the throttle as you pass the apex resulting in making the full throttle section longer. 3) Don't get on the throttle until you have the bike pointed in the correct direction, @12:10 was way too early. 4) Make sure you're on the racing line, the mistake in the chicane section happened earlier when you tried to pass the other rider. This caused you to be way out of position in relation to the racing line. It can also cause dangerous situations because you become unpredictable to others. 5) Lastly good on you for taking a few moments as mistakes were adding up. You regained focus and reengage once you did, smart move. Too many people try to regain all their losses in one corner, push beyond their limits and send it.

Love the video. Good work I miss racing with WERA but too old now. Noticed you apexs were way wide. Try to hit the apex with your wheel you arm should be on the red white or in the grass. Also enter turn farther out this will get you through the turn faster. I also notice a lot of perking. Try to be smooth, roll on throttle etc. Keep pushing you'll get it. Track time is the best and time your laps to try different things in each combination of turns. Good Luck. I Subscribed

15:06 happened to me before on my ninja, suspension bottoming or close to it. Pretty scary, especially cuz it feels as if the bike and brakes should have much more to give. Got a front cartridge kit for mine have to install, that should prevent this or at least manage. Stiffer in the front should help you as well, I don't know if your suspension is adjustable but if it is try it for this track at least.

I just found your channel so I have some catching up to do. First piece of advice is get that throttle lag resolved. It's killing your corner speed. If you have a Power Commander I can show you how to resolve that. Second, stop worrying about the guy behind you or next to you. Stop looking or anticipating where they are or if you're holding them up. It's a race. You're not doing it right if you're not holding someone up. Relax more. Grunt less. I can tell you're trying too hard. There's a good reason they say, "Smooth is fast and fast is smooth." Next track day practice on nothing but throttle control, RPM range 8K and up, and corner entry. Too many times your corner entry is way too shallow causing you to "point and shoot" out of the corners instead of carrying good corner speed and hitting a smooth apex. The 600RR is not the best point and shoot bike with only 50-55 bhp of torque. And trying to keep up on an unforgiving track as Road Atlanta leaves you pushing harder than you should. I'll go take a look at your track day at Barber's. I've ridden Barber's several times but never RA. Go figure. Has your suspension been set up for your rider weight? Fork springs replaced for you? BTW, nice sound track! I loved hearing old Motley Crew "Live Wire". That "tape" really takes me back in time....👍

I do not have a power commander, but I am getting my ECU tuned eventually.. you gave a lot of good points.. I will keep that in mind. my next track day is in a few weeks.. as for my suspension, yes its been tuned for my weight, but I feel that I need a stiffer spring in the front, or a bit more preloadI felt I was getting close to bottoming out. The rear, does feel great.. Live wire is my jam... rock on man!!!

​@@smithshotracing Well it is an Ohlins,,,Lol. When's the last time you changed the fork fluid? Your spring rate shouldn't change unless you gain or lose weight. And even small changed can be adjusted with preload. Maybe consider freshening up the fluid or just add in some comp if you're too close to bottom. Doing another Barbers in June? I live in Wetumpka so Leeds is only a couple hours away. But of course if I get a chance to ride up I'll be coming up 25. I don't ride interstates. In the mean time, check out Greg Melka's channel. He's got a 600 SuperStock race from 2020 on there that I think you can glean a lot of bits and pieces from. You know something, I just remembered that I just upgraded to a PCV on my '04 and just shelved my PCIII. I've said many times that I'd buy a PCIII if all it did was cure Honda's horrible throttle lag. But it has a custom map for my Leo Vince and BMC filter as a bonus.

You need to take 2 clicks out and focus on cleaning up your lines and gear selection a bit. You did good by keeping it upright and riding in over your head, but you're right there on the cusp of it. @@smithshotracing I say 2 clicks out in terms of your mental focus/aggression to riding. I tell every rider the same thing, and it's true for me. The less I try, the faster I am. When I try to pump myself up and tell myself I'm going to brake super late, get on the gas super hard, and just ride aggressive...I fight myself. To this day, every single personal best I've ever set came when I wasn't really trying to go fast, and was simply focused on the riding fundamentals. Take '2 clicks out' and don't push yourself so hard, and you're going to see that you'll hit more apexes, hit your marks on track, and you'll come in at the end of the session or race and realize you went faster than you ever have at the given track.

The only mistake you made was your mindset. You were trying too hard to go fast on an unfamiliar track. Speed comes from technique, not the throttle. Relax, breathe, and glide. You’ll be smoother and faster. Whacking and cracking will put you off your line. Rolling and squeezing will keep you tight and quick! Good stuff and good on you for going after it-

Was this your first time at Road Atlanta? Your lines are off, and you seem uncomfortable. You definitely need to learn the track better. It’s a very fast and fun track once you learn it.

It's complete nonsense to race in the rain unless it's a paid ride and it's not your bike. You're much more likely to crash in the rain, and the speeds at the end of the straight are darn near almost as high as the dry, so your crash speeds isn't any slower in the rain. If you absolutely must, rain tires it is and set all the electronic aids to max, and keep those wheels in line. I don't know what bike you have, but the bikes without electronic aids and auto-shifters are quite hard to ride fast in comparison to bikes that have all those electronic aids. In my opinion, all your troubles with overshooting the turns, not getting the bike turned fast enough, and difficulty getting good drives out of the corners (I find that most track riders have pretty good cornering speeds) comes from just one flaw in your riding. The inability to rev match on the downshift. So while braking, you have to, while pulling in the brake lever, quickly pull in the clutch and blip the throttle just enough to make the switch into the lower gear possible. Once you figure out how to rev-match, then you won't feel the need to brake so hard into the turns or over rev your bike so riders who do know how to rev match won't pass you.

the bike is a 09 CBR 600RR with no electronics at all.. not gonna lie to you, rev matching when down shifting is difficult, I try it, but when I do, I change pressure on the brake lever and then unsettle the front.. But, your opinion is accurate..

@@smithshotracing Unfortunately, unless you have a newer bike with quick shifter up and down, you kinda need to know how to rev match on the downshift. But once you do so, you have so many advantages and options. My current bike, a '22 xsr900, has such sensitive brakes that I can use just one finger...but on the other hand it has a quick shifter plus a slipper clutch. And traction control, slide control, wheelie control... Some people say rev matching takes only a few hours to learn but I personally had to work on it pretty carefully over months of riding on twisty roads. Fortunately, I had learned how to rev-match before my very first trackday, and I remember a lot of people in my beginner group having trouble rev-matching. It's just not a skill that's necessary for street riding but it's absolutely necessary on the high revs of track riding. It allows you to "float" into turns at relatively high rpm's and allows you to get through turns at fairly low throttle openings instead of low RPM's and high throttle openings that often results in a highside state.

@@langhamp8912 I have to disagree, revmatching is not at all necessary, and slipping the clutch is much more efficient.

@@Master_Yoshi AMA super bike racer Tommy Kip actually gave his reasons for slipping the clutch and never rev matching the "traditional" way. To me, slipping the clutch does make a lot of sense because you're not moving the brake lever around much, so I did try it after reading his article. I ended up going to the traditional way as rev matching is just so much more flexible; you can use rev matching when both on the brakes and not on the brakes, and at any lean angle. Of course, I now have an autoblipper and quick shifter which is way better than doing it manually.

@langhamp8912 That's fair, gotta do what's best for you. I stopped revmatching because I'd get rear chatter even before downshifting
