I attempt my first Epoxy Resin project as a beginner and includes my resin fail. Please be kind as I still have a lot to learn. I used the Glass cast 10/50 resin and it took 72 hours to cure fully. If you have any information on the best casting resin to cast this type of project, please comment below. Remember I am in the UK.

For your first attempt you did a great job. Something I've learned about epoxy resin is that if you try to put it in a vacuum chamber to draw the air bubbles out or try using a heat gun or blow torch to get the bubbles out. I don't know what time limits your epoxy is but if you have the time one of those methods will make a big difference in the amount of air bubbles in your castings. I would like to see more epoxy videos if you wish to do more. Keep the great videos coming. Thanks for sharing and God bless

Use Vaseline on the interior surface of your molds to prevent sticking. Also, use a vibration source to bubbles to the surface

Definitely do more. There are a lot of good and interesting comments here. I've used resin twice on large bar tops. The 2nd experience was better than the 1st. For large pieces, I found a blowtorch to be good for eliminating bubbles as it cured.

Great effort, I'm impressed ! Had a kit for doing that as a teenager and it was great fun. Seem to recall it was possible to get various sizes and shapes of plastic casting moulds that were highly polished and gave a great finish. Only the bottom of the mould (the open side when you are pouring) needed finishing. Also,remember for complicated casts with lots of parts / objects, I had to build it up slowly with several layers of resin, rather than casting in one pour. The final pour could often be a solid colour that gave a nice background or base when turned out. Also helped to either dip some of the parts in resin before putting them in place and pouring resin soon after, or moving the parts about as you poured, to avoid or remove bubbles. You've inspired me to look into having another go !!

@@RetroHax This is something that really interests me. I wonder if you can use a vacuum to remove the last of the little bubbles? I use an old compressor from a dehumidifier I scrapped for a small vacuum chamber. I'm ghetto as though. :D
@tootall5559
@tootall5559 4 жыл бұрын
actually, I've seen guys that have done it many times not get it that nice. There will probably always be a few imperfections. If there was something that vibrated that you could set it on that would leave no or fewer holes and get the bubbles out. Frankly you did better than I can usually do, but I've not done it but a few times either. I'd like to see something like a dinky or tootsitoy car suspended in the stuff. is there some product you could use on the "plexi" plastic to make it come off easier? Some kind of release agent? I've tried cooking spray, that doesn't work very well. I've also tried WD 40 a little better but clouds the epoxy so you have to do more sanding and polishing to get it to look like anything.
