I had the pleasure of meeting meat canyon at a convention over this summer, and I asked him what happened to Luke. He said he works at a shop in his home town, but he’s not sure if he’s still extremely religious. I then asked him if Luke’s parents got divorced and he said “oh they definitely did.” So at least Luke’s mom doesn’t have to deal with that anymore.

Absolutely true story here, this reminds me of a sleepover I had that I will never forget. When it was 'sleep time' my friend and I were still talking, as per normal sleepover bed time. Suddenly out of nowhere, my friends step father burst into the room. With the only source of light being from the hallway, I watched him clench his fist and throw a punch at my friend. He yelled obscenities at him for not being quiet. His step father then continued further, pointing to an elephant stuffed animal and became enraged. "AND I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU TO THROW THAT AWAY, YOU'RE NOT A GOD DAMN BABY". He pulled my friend out of bed and repeatedly kicked him in the ribs and then back as he curled up in the fetal position. His step father left the room, slamming the door behind him, leaving my friend on the floor, quietly sobbing. I was absolutely terrified and wasn't able to say another word for the rest of the sleepover. The next day, my mother picked me up. Once we left the trailer park, I told her what I saw. On Monday, we were at school when the principal and a Police Officer entered the classroom and took me to the main teacher conference room where I saw what I assume were two child service agents, the school counselor, my friends home room teacher and my mother. I once again told them everything. My friends step father got 15 years in prison. My friend and his younger sister had to live with his grandparents and transfer to another school. He hated me after that and we never spoke again.

Well done. An innocuous story. Your artwork conveyed the anxiety that is present in a first sleepover with a friend *Chef's Kiss* . It seems inevitable, while in your friends house your friend has no anxiety...after all, this is their home. So they are energetic and flamboyant while you remain cautionary like an animal out of it's habitat. There is "meat" to it too. An air of mystery about the narrator. For example, "Did the narrator not ask his friend about bedtime simply because an early bedtime was a brand new experience for them? Or, was it because they respected the fact they were at someone else house, and perhaps their parents told them to obey the rules set there." I imagine the mother crying in the kitchen, perhaps the extra dialogue she gives is perception based. I think either it was happening or you thought it might be happening so it became an afterthought at that moment. You placed the height of the character appropriately, so I can tell they are a child (duh), but the point i'm making is. I could see how a child might not even be able to process that really. Which is why you zoned out on the pizza rolls? It must be annoying having strangers evaluate your work, but this one is really good. You thought about doing artwork for games?

Every now and then, I remember this time when I was really small, and I was in the backseat with my brother and my mom was driving us home from the store or something, and it was really hot out that day. My mom saw this old lady walking on the side of the road, who appeared to be struggling with her bags, so she pulled over and offered her a ride home (because, ya know, letting a stranger into your car when your two small children are with you is SUCH a great idea to begin with), to which the lady reluctantly agreed, and she got into the backseat with us. On the way, the lady seemed pretty nervous, and as we got close to her house, she suddenly got the Hershey squirts on full blast all over the seat... And I just think, this is one of those childhood stories that probably explains a lot, lmfao.

This story shows how some families really use Christianity as a scapegoat for abusive households as portrayed through how Luke's mother is always crying as a result of Luke's abusive father. As a Christian myself, although this doesn't happen in my family its still pretty terrifying. I love it.
@magicdog95233 жыл бұрын
My dad was secular, respectful of all religions (which is one of the few things I give him credit for), and he terrorized my mom and I. Worst part is he allegedly supported women's rights, but it's clear he didn't actually put it into practice. I don't think religion or a lack thereof necessarily has a lot to do with this (though I guess conservative religion's focus on gender roles and such might help prop it up).
@Tysandifer3 жыл бұрын
Yep proof that not all christians do like they should, no one's perfect but you can't be ay hypocrite. Its sad Thst even in my church they're are some who don't show up and "phone it in.. can't act 1 way in church then the opposite the rest of the week
@gabbiewolf11213 жыл бұрын
@@magicdog9523 Exactly. People can express their beliefs in abusive ways regardless of what their beliefs are. Yeah some beliefs lead to more abusiveness than others like culty beliefs, but those are in the minority. I think the one case where Christianity really was most often abusive was in its relation to LGBT kids, but that seems to be getting better quickly :D
@gabbiewolf11213 жыл бұрын
Heck even the Catholics are getting much better about LGBT stuff. It’s primarily the conservative Evangelicals and the Orthodox Christians who will hold out the longest
@sirnetflix71623 жыл бұрын
@@gabbiewolf1121 I’m Catholic, and while I give zero shits of how people choose to live their lives, I completely understand why any church refuses to accept the LGBT community. Most holy books say being a homosexual is a sin, and here are progressives asking the church to do gay marriages under God. It literally goes against the teachings of the Bible, Quran, Torah, etc. They shouldn’t be forced to agree to things that go against them as it really doesn’t hurt anybody.

Looking back on sleepovers growing up there were some really weird moments. How like it was expected that you and your friends were going to stay up all night and make copious amounts of noise and the host family kind of had to just deal with it or continually get up throughout the night and grill us about being quiet. I rarely can say that I ever had a completely positive experience at one of these, my friends and I would be playing video games and watching movies until like 4am, and then by 6am they would be up again playing more games, there was never a phase of solid uninterrupted sleep. Then getting older and going to parties where it was agreed that we were going to crash at someone's house after a night of drinking it always seemed as if there was always one guy who was determined to see the sun rise, playing music, cracking open new beers, being a continuous presence to keep the others awake, or at least just me. Now over the past recent years of lockdowns and distancing, I don't socialize that much, I stick to myself, I sleep soundly, and I have no regrets.
