My First Soft Pastel Piece in Years!!

Beautiful artwork! I have a set of the Koh-i-Noor extra soft pastels and I think the quality is similar to the top brands like Schmincke at a much lower price. Their color range is limited though and they can’t be purchased open stock in the U.S.

Thank you! I know, it's such a bummer that they aren't available open stock here in the U.S. they are my favorite soft pastels to work with. I wish Koh I Noor supplies were more readily available here in general. They have so many fun products!

Your Pastel painting is beautiful Shana. I love the colors of the sky just before total darkness takes over. I took pictures of the woods and skyline next to my house and did a watercolor painting of it. The sky was such a bright, vivid pink, with orange in it, it was a beautiful skyline.

Oh! Beautiful Shana! What I can see, this Koh-I-Noor soft pastels, it's a little the same as the Rembrandt soft pastels...and they're very vibrant color, I love that! And you know I always telling you, that I love of how you can draw trees! You're the only one I've ever seen who achieves beautiful results when you paint or draw trees.😊 I'm so glad that you're back to working with the pastels. They are very fun to work with them😊❤❤❤

Love it! Have you ever used Pastelmat paper? I love it for Pastels. I love that you wanted to go back and touch something you haven’t touched before…

Thank you! I have tried Pastelmat, I have only tried the white, though, and I liked it, but it didn't have as much tooth as I expected. Then I saw other people online say that they had a similar issue with the white and that it wasn't as textured as some of the other colors. I haven't bought any of the other colors yet, because I haven't been using my pastels. I will probably try some other colors at some point, I know it's a fabulous surface!

I am interested in getting a set. I don't really know which ones to get. I want something that isn't too expensive, but I also would like something that still has some quality to it (perhaps student grade). What would you recommend? I did order Faber Castell Pitt pencils yesterday, as they were 25% off on Amazon. I also need to figure out fixatives too. I don't know where to start with those at all. I love with pastels that you can produce something really beautiful in a fairly short amount of time (compared to color pencils).They are great when you feel time poor and want to do something and only have a few hours spare. No wonder you love trees when you have a backyard like that. Having spent some summers in Maine, I get it. I love your clouds. Those are the hardest thing to do, if you ask me. You did a great job with them.

I don't have a ton of experience with different brands of soft pastels. My favorite pastels are the ones I am using in this video, the Koh I Noor extra soft pastels (I have a link for them in the description.) I also really like the Sennelier soft pastels, but those are pricy. But beyond that, I don't have any real experience with other brands out there. I have heard good things about the Mungyo Gallery soft pastels, which are reasonably priced, but I haven't tried them myself, so I can't really say for sure how good they are. You are right! Pastels are great for creating artwork quickly. They are also wonderful for expressive artwork. They are so much fun! Maine really is a special place, and I am thankful to live in a place that provides me with so much inspiration! Thank you. I'm glad you like my clouds. They are one of my favorite things to create! 🥰

I think it may be a KZbin thing, I have had a couple of other people comment and say they have had to resubscribe. I'm not sure why it won't let you subscribe again. I don't block people unless they have been really hateful to me or someone else in the comments section. If you were blocked, I don't think you would be able to comment. It must be some sort of glitch. 😕
