Totally adore all of your videos! Your melancholy professionalism, yet warm and welcoming persona has addicted me! I can't wait to support your journey and be apart of all the magic you create

I appreciate this so much! I’ve been gone for a little while but been itching to get back into it. I uploaded a new video yesterday and hope to be able to create many more videos soon. Comments like this really fuel that fire! 🫶🏻

A long long time ago I had a big Chevy van and was struggling to get home from work through a snow storm. As the van's wheels were spinning and sliding sideways, stressed as I was, I absentmindedly said out loud "C'mon Martha Mae, you can make it!" From that point on as long as I owned it the van was known as Martha Mae and I talked to her quite regularly. The point here being talk to your kiln. When trying to get just one more pot in you could say something like "Hey Skimpy, let me get this last one in" or "OK Shorty, just one more shelf" or something like that. Whatever just pops out without thinking about it. Who knows what name you may come upon, but it will be relevant. And you are a brave young lady to show your not-so-great pieces to the whole world. But we love it when you do and laugh with you not at you.

Thank you for sharing, that’s some great advice! Next time I’m loading the kiln I’ll remember it 😁 Can’t share my successes without showing the fails that led me there 😉

Some people use underglaze on the greenware then use regular glaze on bisque. Thas seems to do the trick :)
@thecarmeister2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that’s what I tried with the test tile too, one side of it was applied on greenware and the other on bisque! :) Unfortunately it didn’t make a difference this time. Still came out very runny. I think the underglaze and clear glaze are just not compatible with each other for some reason. Going to try again with a different glaze!

underglazes layering under glazes don't usually work together.. you could try putting wax resist over your underglaze then applying the glazes!

Lovely, lovely vlog! Nice to meet you and your amazing ceramics here on YT😍 I’d suggest FIAMMA as a name for your kiln girl, it’s italian and it means “flame” - pronounced fee-ah-mmah (like hannah)🙂

Ah thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it ☺️ Looooove the name suggestion! I hope I can do the pronunciation justice 🤭

I really enjoyed your video! I'm not positive on this, but I think I was told before, to use zinc-free clear glaze on top of underglazes. Amaco underglazes, to be specific. Maybe that's worth a check, of your glaze contains zinc...or maybe too much zinc. Otherwise, you should be able to fire underglaze on greenware OR bisqueware, without an issue. I have done both. Good luck!

Just found you! Love! What brand/make of kiln do you own and what country are you in?

Thank you so much! I'm located in the Netherlands, my kiln was made by a local kiln manufacturer as well :) The capacity is 50 liters if that helps!

Also, try applying the underglaze on bisque then fire again. Worked for me but it is a longer process
@thecarmeister Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I ended up trying this but the underglaze still ran. It ended up being an issue with the combination of the glossy glaze and underglaze. They just didn't match! Thankfully I've had much more succes with underglazes after figuring this out 🥳

The only name for the kilm I can think of is "Kilm theory" like as a spin-off of "film theory"
