We are delighted to announce the launch of our Virtual Tour of Mapperton House & Gardens - and you are the first to hear about it! Combining 360 degree images with videos and ambient sounds, the tour will transport you to our glorious corner of England. You will be able to explore the interior of the House, learn about the collection and the history of the Montagu family - all guided in good humour by my parents the Earl & Countess of Sandwich. You can also visit peaceful All Saints Church before going for a wander in our magical Gardens. The virtual tour can be found at: buymeacoffee.com/mapperton On this link you will be able to ‘buy coffee’ to get access to the tour - and every coffee purchased will support the many repair and restoration projects at Mapperton. We hope you enjoy the experience and look forward to welcoming you!

That face on the thumbnail. You kill me. So down to earth and not pretentious. I just adore watching your projects, and the Alberta project is a fave. But, I have to admit, your tiny house in Italy is my favorite.

Oh, I agree with you about Julie not being pretentious-I appreciate that so much, and her humility makes these videos so much more enjoyable! I meant to say that Luke, also, is so entertaining-he, too, is unpretentious and genuine. They both will work HARD and that's so cool to see.

I live in Wisconsin USA. Yellow mustard was brought to the US and is an invasive plant. Every spring we had to pull it to keep it from taking over the fields. It was so important to get rid of it we actually were paid 1 penny for 2 plants we picked.

If you feel a bit apprehensive about giving your tours, which I’m sure are very interesting and informative, always remember that the people who come are there because they are interested. They’re on your side so relax and take it easy. If the groups are of that small size, you’re onto a winner because you have time to interact briefly with all of them., which will give them a feeling of being special and a lasting memory to take away. Best of luck.

When re-wilding , do you worry about trees taking over? The fields behind our property were abandoned and became over-run with hawthorn trees which threaten to take over our padtures! They are very invasive and fast growing in Virginia (USA)

My Mother and her neighbourhood playmates would get paid (very nominally) to pull ragwort on their parents' dairy farms in the Waikato (south of Auckland and Hamilton in New Zealand) in the 1930s. She trained us to recongnise it, and if I ever see any growing, I always find myself exclaiming "Mum would be appalled!"

I'm surprised you don't have a wagon to put all the pulled up plants in. Just letting them lie on the ground could result in them rebooting.

This is one of the few plants I would haul off. When it dies and dried out it does not taste as nasty to horses and cows and is just as deadly as fresh and green.

Your corn poppies are very beautiful and look so much like the California poppy. One of those purple thistles was growing in my backyard here in western Colorado and I admired the beautiful purple thistle flower until I came home from work to find one of MY Pomeranians completely held captive by it with his fur caught up in the thistle then in him trying to get away turned around several times and he was left standing in the hot Sun with no access to water and I immediately started to try and free his coat from the thistle but found it impossible and finally had to resort to cutting it out of his coat then immediately dug it up and threw it away.

This was fun! I enjoyed the tour, and weeding in the rewilding project. One thing I noticed in the drone shot of the field being weeded was a distinctive large dry patch at a higher elevation in the Gallops. Has that been researched for a possible much older building? It hits all the marks of a good archeological maybe.

I am interested in the rewilding and nativization of the various areas and ask do you do any monitoring of bat species or work with Bat Conservation Trust to make sure there are healthy pest controls from the bats?? I know the UK is super about protection of roosts, etc. Just wondering how the estate dovetails with that type of conservation & scientific data gathering.

Didn't realize that Alberta married older and that she wasn't interested; funny what she said about Churchill. You shouldn't be nervous - I used to give bilingual tours - as your audience usually isn't as knowledgeable as you! Amazing fossil find, nice.

Simple, brief explanations render tours tedious when visiting counties. You find yourself imposed a simplified tour for uninterested tourists. Julie really was compelling and details, it's something a visitor will appreciate, they are paying after all.

There is a show gilded age filming near me in NYS near Albany it would be cool if they followed some of the stories to Europe. The dollar princesses are what they were called. They saved struggling royal/aristocratic families from ruin and estates. We learn about that in American history class or at least I did.

Just curious, is your rewilding project part of a government program? Here in the U.S., we have had a couple of programs like that. One was called a soil bank program about 70 years ago and another was called Conservation Reservation program started about 40 years ago. Basically, farmers planted their farms back to grass and the government paid them to keep it that way for a few years. It was a way for farmers to get away from trying to pay for marginally producing farmland. The market on farm produce stayed flat for decades while costs increased exponentially.

Your lot looks to have two round houses and other large older buildings on it as evidenced by the drone shot. Have you had archeologists on the site? If so, what did they say or uncover? If not, do you plan on inviting them?

In the part of the U.S. I am from, if a pasture is full of wildflowers, that is a bad sign. I has been overgrazed. Farmers like to see mostly grass. Just a casual observation, but it looks like Europeans like their wildflowers. What's your thoughts?

I spent a day one summer in college 45 years ago pulling thistle in Pennsylvania. My farmer friend I was working for said the cattle do eat them and it spoils the milk. While I was doing it a cow came up to my wheelbarrow and tried to take a thistle to eat it. I threatened her with a shovel and she shed off. Perhaps British and American thistle are different?

I love your content and have watched probably nearly everything on your KZbin-channels. You are genuine and produce very interesting and likeable content, I really like it, well done! However, the click baity titles you have started using more and more are not true to your brand, and unfortunately they put me off. I am a content specialist myself, and I understand that you analyse the traffic and click through, but please keep in mind the product you are selling and the trust you have built with the audience/s. It’s not about the numbers for your genre of product, as much as about WHO you reach.
@MappertonLive Жыл бұрын
Hi and thank you for your comment. KZbin is a tricky beast and we want to make sure our content is seen as we believe in what we are making and want others to see. Unfortunately, we have to analyse the traffic and as YT reminds us, titles and thumbnails are how you get ppl to click - it's very hard to get the right balance.... but we take note in what you say so thank you and thank you for watching.
