I had a private drift day at english town raceway in New Jersey to start the season off! I installed a csf radiator before hand and got a bunch of seat time!

The reason why you have to remove coolant is because that is the expansion tank and it's where the coolant expands. If there is too much coolant then your cooling system can get over pressurized and either get pushed out of the cap after reaching the pressure limit. The number 200 on the radiator cap means the cap is rated for 2.0 bar or 29 psi of pressure. After it goes over 29 psi then that's when it will release coolant from under the cap. Most of the time your hoses or any plastic parts in the cooling system might crack or explode before the cap can reach the 29psi and release the pressure. There are some people who use lower pressure cap on these cars. You can use 1.0bar 14psi (100 on cap), 1.2bar 17psi (120 on cap) or 1.4bar 20psi(140 on cap) if you want to try to lower that pressure on the system. If you do upgrade the cap make sure you buy a good branded cap (UROparts Caps are absolute trash) and keep note that because of the lower psi rating the system might release some coolant or vapor out of the cap after it is up to temperature and the level will be slightly lower than normal but it should not just pour out like a fountain otherwise that means you have a faulty cap.

That looked fun as hell, great driving! I remember the one time I went off track in my E30 at a track day (way back when I was 16yo) I spun out into the grass/mud. My steering was shaking so badly so I took it down the pit lane and it was flinging it up everywhere and managed to clear it self off. This confirms I need to get a decent wheel and pedals and get on a sim to drift, haven't had a wheel in ages.

go all out with this car. Take everything out of the back down to bare metal. weld one bar in between rear door pillars to stiffen the chassis. Empty the spare tire boot, if possible cut the boot off and weld it flat. That will get a lot of weight off the car. Shit ton of pressure to the rear tires, lower pressure on front. Adjust the rear suspension to be really stiff so you don't grip up too much and u get less tirehop which will safe you axels and diffs. I've had plenty of e46's, Amazing cars but the touring is especially different. Its really easy to give it too much angle since the angle feels mellow when you are the driver. A touring should be really hard to spin out due to the longer wheelbase. And also, if you want to lighten the chassis more, cut off the insides of the doors and trunkdoor/tailgate or whatever it is in english.

as far as i know, the correct bleeding is as follows: -lift up the front of the car just as much, that the tyres come off the ground -fill it up with the coolant and loosen the plastic screw by the reservoir tank (do not take it out) -switch the heating to the max, ventilators to the minimum -start the engine, let it warm up. you will see the bubbles coming out from the screw -as soon as the bubbles stop, the air is out of your system (only water, no bubbles) -switch off the engine and let it cool down. -once its cold, check the water level and fill up whats missing Never put a cold coolant into a hot one.. and never open the cap while its hot. it is under pressure and its about 109 Celsius hot. It could spray hot water everywhere. nice job by the way ;)

Ive done that to my e46 as well after filling it with correct coolant and over pressurizing it, the hard pipes exploded loll. so I ended up replacing ALL the coolant hoses and the ccv stuff for like $300 (shout out fcp euro). All those codes look like vacuum leak issues, check the intake boots if there is a tear or leak past the MAF it'll freak out a little but usually its intermittent and still drivable. If you replace or delete the CCV make sure you do those cooling hard pipes!!

Joel (if you even see this lol) I really enjoys your channel. It reminds me of myself when I was learning about cars and driving. I like your attitude even when you're getting frustrated when working on things that are totally Alien to you and you're not sure what do think or do. BMW is a great platform to learn both cars and driving. You're becoming an expert as you learn and will know all there is to know after you dig in like you are. I have an E46 M3 (Actually it's a swapped out 330CI with all M3 parts from a wrecked E46 M3). I also have a 2008 335Xi and the twin turbo power of those things and the tuning capabilities of them for the cost can't be matched by any other car these days. Big power to buck ratio is tops and you can't go wrong for the money! Just remember N54 all the way!. (but S55 is even better but costs way too much money lol). Rock On Joel!

The cooling system gets pressurized by the heat it absorbs. This is wanted because if the pressure is higher water boils at a higher temperature. You opened the cap and let all the pressure out, then when the air cooled down it created a small vacuum. If the cooling system was hotter, you could have burned yourself really bad, heres an example: kzbin.infoEUbiGjUNK1w edit: feel free to correct me

The reason you might be spinning out all the time is your tire psi. I think you are filling them up too much. The next time you go drifting, you should try putting your rear tires psi a bit lower than the front and see how that feels.
