I raced these vintage muscle cars for over 20 years, including a 1966 Shelby GT350, which would be very similar to what you drove here. I really enjoy watching younger drivers getting to experience what it takes to hustle these types of analog cars around a track. Gives a new appreciation for the skill level of the original drivers. Enjoy the race at Brands and hopefully by the end of the day you will be a competent dance partner with this great car.

I got the chance to align a 65 289 3spd at work the other day and it was such a surreal experience that you don't get with cars of today. I got it up to 45mph (speed limit of the "fast" road on our test route), and I loved every bit of that 5 min drive. I drive a manual Mk7 GTI right now and it felt like a toy right after the 65 lol. Thankfully only driving a manual made that 65 feel so natural, rev matched her perfectly and I loved the feeling of the long throw of the shifter with no power steering or power brakes even. Gave me a newfound respect for the racers of old and even the guys today that chuck these beautifully raw machines around.

Pretty quick learning with the heel & toe, I remember right when I got my licence, I spent a week practicing off brake double clutch rev match, and another week doing "false" then "true" heel & toe. Hope you guys have a good race !
@johnscott336 ай бұрын
Great job Mr. Speed. If I could add a few notes for those that haven't actually driven cars like this. The "Heel Toe" thing is something that you need to really THINK about, the Why? At first. Then, the feel of What you Need to go faster should come naturally. In a car like that there would be a lot of engine braking and the need to keep your RPMS up. While downshifting alone will increase rpms, that increase is the Drivetrain/Wheels forcing the motor to turn faster. You need to get ahead of that drag so, coming out of a turn, the engine rpm and its trajectory is where it needs to be to get maximum power.

Only a matter of time, for sure. The question is how long it will take. Viewership saturation is a very real thing and there aren't many people out there willing to sub to mostly sim content. And both Jimmy and Steve seem to have captured most of their potential audience. Their numbers are still incredibly impressive though, and I'm super happy for them.. They just don't have the mass appeal that someone like Misha does, which is why he blew past 1M this year. And that's ok. 1M is just a number, after all. They've already made it and their life won't change much when that number finally rolls over. I'm sure it will feel good to receive that plaque, though.

here's a tip for heeltoeing (if you want it). you can try to roll your foot and press the gas with the side of your foot/heel. i think you'll find it easier to maintain break pressure, have a better feeling for pedal position and how much gas your giving. also it might be easier as you won't extend your leg as much so it will be over all more comfortable and give you more confidence and control. great vid and driving as always:)
