Check this song out live at Montreal 1981 (more 'polished' version) and/or live at Milton Keynes 1982 (more 'raw' version), both are great performances. Queen in general is famous for incredible live performances.

Freddie wrote this song as a tribute to Aretha Franklin. "I just wanted to write something in the Aretha Franklin kind of mode. I was inspired by the gospel approach she had on her earlier albums."

Definitely check out the Live in Montreal version - I will watch it! Freddie was the greatest frontman of all time for good reason - no one has ever owned a crowd like he does. Trust me, you know more of their songs than you think you do - "We Are The Champions" & "Another One Bites The Dust" - everyone knows Queen. By the way, that gentleman playing guitar is Dr. Brian May (PhD in Astrophysics & has consulted for NASA) He & his father built the guitar you see him playing out of parts they found together.

One of the biggest mysteries in music: Queen's 3 part and 4 part harmonies.

Awwww, loved your reaction! Someone else mentioned watching the live performance of somebody to love Montreal, 1981. That’s probably one of my favorite life performances of theirs. This band has so many amazing hits. One of my other favorite live performances of theirs is another one bites the dust live in Montreal, 1981.

Hey Shama! You NEED to hear this live, too! (Queen are actually the ONLY band who’s famous for being even BETTER live.) There are TWO fantastic performances - both very DIFFERENT: The much-better-known one is at Montreal in 1981 (It’s better-known for its high HD quality - it was filmed to play in IMAX-type venues… and it IS a letter-perfect performance.) The other lesser-known “Hidden Gem” is at Milton Keynes Bowl in 1982 (This one is RAW, POWERFUL vocals, and FUN ad libs… and is actually the version that Queen included in their official compilation of Best Live Performances.)🖖

Thanks, Shama! Yep - they took us to church on this one.. the gospel sound- Freddie said he was inspired by Aretha Franklin on this one.. as noted below.. the 1981 LIVE version is also stunning... arguably even better than the "official" video.. welcome to "Queen-land"! lol.. also highly recommend "Don't Stop me now".. I think you'll appreciate it!

Great reaction. Everything they did over their 20 year span was GREAT! The best group with the best lead singer ever, greatest lead guitarist, greatest drummer, great bass, they all wrote the songs and created the best sounds around. Freddie Mercury was an immense talent, loved performing . Their live concerts are legendary. And his voice!! So unique, and what a range! Reported to be 4-5 octaves, using his ventricular folds on top of his vocal cords (a Rudy showed--he never knew he was doing that!), never trained for his voice, just loved singing. Everything, every genre, even opera. I love, love Queen and Freddie!

I think you got a new band if you want more goosebumps. This studio version was done about 1975. The live versions noted in below comments are both snapshot moments etched in time. Just recently the Rock Montreal Concert was in IMAX Theatres globally (digitally re-mastered) for a weekend - jaw dropping.
