Chris Cornell, Layne Staley, Eddie Vedder and Kurt Cobain all had amazing, unique voices. "Grunge" was about the music, the lyrics and the...darkness. Hair metal was "Party", Grunge was "life isn't a party."

In 1992 I was at the best Soundgarden concerts ever! If you react to Slaves & Bulldozers, please react to a live version. Studio version is great but live is so much more epic. It was often their encore song from 1992 until Chris's last performance. They loved playing it and they add more to it then studio. They also played it a little different each time.

Chris Cornell's vocals are legendary. One of if not THE greatest imo. Some more the greats to check out... Maynard James Keenan, Scott Weiland, Mike Patton... All favorites of mine. Oh and Freddy Mercury of course is a no-brainer.

His voice not only added the vocals, it was another musical instrument... dont know if he is the BEST, it always depends on personal taste. There is layne Staley, Geof Tate, a few others that are right up there, but to me its Cornells huge body of work through the decades, his songwriting, his musicallity in general, that puts him over the top personally.
