Official languages in the Philippines: 1. English 2. Pilipino (a mandatory subject in the school system and used in official communication as part of our Filipino culture). There are over 170 dialects in the Philippines. Tagalog is the mostly spoken dialect. We have over 7,700 Islands in the Philippines, therefore, we Filipinos have to speak English or else we will have difficulty understanding each other. That is the reason why the mode of education in the Philippines is the use of English in our text books and official newspapers. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas! ( long live the Philippines!!!)

His energy level is actually very typical of dozens of other American vloggers in Philippines who call everyone, "brother" or "my friend". He needs to stop calling people brother. The scanner is there for the safety of the customers. You will see that in all the malls and hotels in the Philippines. I guess you heard what happened at the Siam Paragon Mall in Bangkok. The Philippines doesn’t want that to happen at public places. Enjoy your stay in this beautiful country. You will love it!

Very interesting! Good security!
@eduardochavacano Жыл бұрын
The scanners have absolutely nothing to do with that very ISOLATED case that happened in Bangkok. Filipinos always try to create trivia from thin air to have something to say to foreigners. Everything including a scanner needs to have a backstory with the obvious subtext that Thailand is dangerous, an idea borne out of insecurities. Thailand is the Queen of Tourism in Southeast Asia, learn from their example, rather than resort to mud slinging.

English is our second language. It is taught in school -- from kindergarten until college. All textbooks used in our schools and universities are in English. Teachers and professors also use English when teaching in their classes. Except of course when the subject being taught is Filipino language, then the Filipino dialect is used in class.

Welcome to the Philippines. I'm a Filipino but has been in Houston for the last 40 years. The reason for the scanner in mall is for safety to all Filipinos. Guns or knives are illegal in any malls. Americans are extremely materialistic.

I subscribed by the way, and it seems your channel will fly in a few more weeks the way you vlog, interact, etc. So, guys let's make this guy a new resident vlogger here haha. Cheers, bro! Btw, to your question on why Filipinos speak pretty good English? Because PH was a former U.S. territory and almost became the US state in the Pacific before WW2. American influence here is massive, from brand, culture, basketball, fast food, education, etc. name it. Badly, the Spanish culture of corruption remains in the govt that's why the public sector is still slow, while at least the private sector's effort to uplift the economy is fast. So sooner we'll get there again in a better economic status just like in our heydays in the 60s being the other 1st world nation after Japan in East Asia region.

Well said Darwin.I like your thought about our country.I am also a new subscriber.
@darwinyuson9338 Жыл бұрын
@@henryferdinandandoyo3474 Thanks bro, govt should realize the importance of becoming at least a light industrial nation similar to our neighbors Indonesia, Vietnam, and Thailand, it boosts their economy a lot in revenue in exports, things which have been lacking for the past 28 years. We need to balance our export vs import, and we need to have some state-owned corporation - industrial manufacturing, that would provide thousands of jobs among our professionals and labor force and would create a new entity brand that is PH-made. You can't go wrong on that, similar to how South Korea, Taiwan, China, etc. made their brands that became a game changer in their economy. All of those brand/exports sold globally provides revenue in taxes to their national income, things that our country is zero to begin with, we are stocked in OFW mentality more than creating industry inside. Hehe, believe me, no president so far has that vision sad to say. We never hardly try that one to be the agenda of any administration...

The Philippines was a former territory and colony (19898-1946) of the US just like Puerto Rico or Guam. When the US was building an empire in the Pacific in the 19th century, the islands were part of the benevolent assimilation policy which aimed to assimilate Filipinos to American life and society similar to what was pursued to the natives of Hawaii and Alaska. Hence you have the vast majority of Filipinos speaking fluent English. Though full assimilation was not achieved, the overwhelming majority of the population adopted English as a second language and most of them continue to speak it until this day as English was maintained as an official language of government, business, education and media up to this day. Even today, so many Americans do not seem to be aware of this and are so puzzled as to why they meet Filipinos who speak fluent English. 😊

The scanner applies to all mall or there will be a guard to check your stuff for safety. Megamall, Mall of Asia, SM North. Massive malls in Manila. Almost all people know how to speak or understand english, that is our secondary language and subject in school since we are little. That is why almost all people in the Metro will understand you. Filipinos are welcoming and always help you in the littlest way. But there are still that will take advantage every now and then so please be careful. Lastly, I think that you’ll be amazed of how Philippines is beautiful. Enjoy your stay Sir! 🫰
