I loved your reaction to the song America by Ray Charles. I used to sing it with my mother. May God bless you and your beautiful family. He is still in charge regardless of what people say and the evil we see around us. He will not forsake us. It is still a beautiful world.

To think that Ray went through all the racism and bullshit, band from performing in some places, and yet here he is singing about the wonderfulness about this county. He was able to see it, even though he was blind.

I'm certain he was paid. I'm also certain he was singing about the ideal, the hoped for America. Americans lie to themselves.

I don’t think ray ever sang a bad note. He is just amazing. My granddaddy played bass fiddle with him on a concert that came to our town. His player was sick and granddad got a call to play that night. Afterward he invited band to his home to jam. There are pics of me a little over a year old dancing next to ray while they played. 😂 he loved music and gave me my love of music of all kinds. But ray has always had a special place in my heart cuz my granddaddy just loved him and played his music so often around the house. It was the highlight of his career to play with him. Just that one show by accident

@ mp2557: Some comments (YOURS) are COMPLETELY unnecessary. Literally no one said that people aren’t attracted to any other countries. 😑🙄 Sometimes it’s best to resist being a petty troll. Of course people move to countries all over the world every day, but whether you want to admit it or not America is always at the top, or near the top of the list for many different reasons! Diversity, and opportunity to name a couple. Right now in 2025 it is FUCKED UP, but still better than most. Your post sounds like sour grapes…..

For those not familiar with all 4 verses (Charles starts out with verse 3): O beautiful for spacious skies, For amber waves of grain, For purple mountain majesties Above the fruited plain! America! America! God shed his grace on thee And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea to shining sea! O beautiful for pilgrim feet Whose stern, impassioned stress A thoroughfare for freedom beat Across the wilderness! America! America! God mend thine every flaw, Confirm thy soul in self-control, Thy liberty in law! O beautiful for heroes proved In liberating strife, Who more than self their country loved And mercy more than life! America! America! May God thy gold refine Till all success be nobleness And every gain divine! O beautiful for patriot dream That sees beyond the years Thine alabaster cities gleam Undimmed by human tears! America! America! God shed his grace on thee And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea to shining sea!

If you go to the summit of Pikes Peak in Colorado you will see what inspired this poem written by Katherine Lee Bates in 1893. Music was added by Silias Pratt and revised in 1904. The summit allows a breathtaking view of the Rocky Mts. and you can feel how thin the air is. The visitor center sells donuts that are huge because they blow way up because the altitude! Great place to experience and you are not far from there - go ride the cog railway! Thanks!
