This was a very special performace. 2NE1 was in a long hiatus due to a scandal around Bom. This was only a CL performace but she decided to include 2NE1as a surprise to everybody. This was their last stage together untill Coachella 2022 when, once again, CL decided to reunite the group for a surprise stage performance. In Voachella they only sang "I am the best". They disbanded in 2016

Actually, since the beginning, KPOP already had that "strict, rule abiding, perfect, flawless" kind of environment. That's why KPOP was seen as the ken & barbie factory in the past until BIGBANG and 2NE1. They became the "rebels" in KPOP. And in doing so, they had influenced the whole kpop industry. They broke barriers. They introduced "freedom and respect" to kpop idols. Later generations of boygroups and girlgroups were created in their image for aesthetics but the chains that imprisoned them were still there. You as a new kpop fan could literally see it. For us old kpop stans, it's like everything got thrown back to stone age after BIGBANG and 2NE1's advancement. That happened when BIGBANG went into military and hiatus and 2NE1 got disbanded and went into hiatus and solo activities. It's also why BIGBANG and 2NE1 were called the Kings and Queens of KPOP coz they were like real kings and queens for the kpop industry. It wasn't just fans opinion or fan-given titles. But they literally earned it and it's on different level.

2NE1 changed the whole girl group game when they debuted. When sexy and cutesy bubble gum pop concepts were popular, they came out with a badass girl crush concept. The thing is, it wasn't just their concept, it's their whole pesona! They were the epitome of female empowerment during their era. Back in the days, they had more female fans, which was rare for a girl groups. They were a monster rookie, winning Song of the Year just months after debut. And they remaib as the ONLY girl group to have won all the daesangs at MAMA - song of the year, album of the year and artist of the year (at that time, the 4th daesang award hasn't been introduced yet). Other thab their upbeat songs, 2NE1 are also known for their ballads. They've won multiple awards for their ballad releases including best vocal performance. They are just that well rounded!

If you give more time on exploring 2NE1 and BIGBANG discography and history, you will see that later gens of kpop idols are like copies of them. But those 2 groups are still on another level. They are also known as the KINGS and QUEENS of LIVE STAGES/PERFORMANCES. Coz no one gives out same energy as them. Classic example is you noticing the difference between the two and the others despite of you who is new to reacting or discovering 2NE1 and BIGBANG. The impression you get despite of seeing only few videos of them is the same to what we witnessed during their active years.

Its pronounced as "twenywan" or "to anyone". To answer your question, the older groups do follow the typical polished, dance-centered performances -- not YG ARTISTS. Yrs, they do have a typical dance-centered choreography as well but when they go on stage they typically just do what they want and perform LIVE, interact with the crowd, or do adlib moves like the head spins that Minzy did. YG Artists are known for that rebellious type kind of performances.

Both went for their own way of presenting themselves on stage and it worked for them. But the next gen like BP and Treasure are going on a the idol format route, so I expect their next girl group will be like other idols groups too.

Yes, CL is the leader of the group, the other members are Bom, Dara and Minji. 2NE1 (21) was on a short hiatus, there was some issues with the members health issues. so CL did some solo projects and was performing at the MAMA end of year show. at the end of the song, but before surrendering the stage, 2NE1 pops up on the front stage and they close the session with this epic show. no one knew, it was a surprise, MAMA would not have allowed this, so no practice, no mic check, just surprise, we are here So 2NE1 was a GEN2 group, they sang Live and the show was everything. BlackPink was a GEN3 group, and they sang Live also in the beginning, and they incorporated a Live band to live stage performances, so they rock a Live stage as well. (Coachella 2019) But now that GEN 4 groups are here, they are pushing more lip sync techniques and it does not hit as hard as in the past, so yes, i agree, it seems the show has diminished a bit. but they still put on an ok show.

Mike, I think that the answer to your question about why groups like BigBang and 2NE1 are so much more outlandish onstage than the groups that follow comes down to one word: Talent. Someone once said that Talent cannot be taught. Some groups have that magic where all their members are born with an abundance of natural talent. Add to that all of the practice to form that talent onto something special and you get groups like BigBang, 2NE1, Mamamoo, etc. they make it look effortless but it isn’t. Once thing I’ve noticed that stands out among those 3 groups is their natural singing abilities are far superior and because of this they focus less on their dance moves when they perform live. Because you cannot dance hard and sing without breathing hard at the same time. It’s physiologically impossible.

Glad you noticed the difference. As an OG K-pop fan idk what happened with 3rd gen bc everything went down hill from there. However 4th gen seems to be picking it back up with XG and Le Sserafim. I’m starting to see the stage presence again and overall talent that has been lacking from 2016-2022. I really dnt know what happened, 2016 hot BIGBANG went into military and groups became stale but new K-pop fans were eating it up bc they didn’t knw any better . They started calling 2nd gen fans haters when we were just pointing out the obvious. But fast forward to today they tryna group 2nd & 3rd gen together. YES!!!! 2NE!, the living legends and queens of kpop! 2NE1 are 1000 times better than Blackpink will ever be. Forcibly disbanded by YG at the height of their career in order to debut Blackpink and he had the nerve to call them a prettier version of 2NE1!!! No group and I mean no group can match 2NE1's stage presence and charisma. The only group that comes close to matching this is Mamamoo. Many MooMoos are also Blackjacks because of this. In fact, Mamamoo's Wheein and Hwasa are Blackjacks (2NE1 fandom). Wheein has said that Park Bom (red haired girl) is her only idol. Park Bom has publicly said that Mamamoo remind her of 2NE1 and she even personally asked Wheein to collaborate with her on her song 4.44.

Hi Mike, YT recommended this video to me today and I just gave it a watch and enjoyed it. I think this is the first time I’ve watched any of your reactions. I agree with your last statement that you think you ought to slow down on the number of new groups you introduce. I watch a lot of reaction videos and I like when hosts take their time and get to know the groups more. Maybe keep a rotating set of a few that they go through. Believe me, there are some absolutely amazing k-pop groups you still haven’t found (although I haven’t looked at your other videos yet). Wait till you eventually check out Mamamoo. You won’t even know what hit you. LOL. But don’t do that yet. 2NE1 deserves time now to get to know them. As other have written already this Mama awards show was meant to be just CL performing her recently released song but she hatched a plan to secretly bring the rest of the group there and reunite them to perform. They hadn’t performed in 2 years. To do this they had to evade the airport paparazzi and it’s a miracle that they were able to pull it off. The sad thing is this performance turned out to be their final one as they disbanded a few months later when Minzy’s contract ended and she decided not to re-sign. The coda to this is CL pulled the same stunt last year - 2022 - at Coachella. 😂 they successfully performed I am the Best in front of a stunned and wildly cheering crowd after CL performed Spicy.

This performance was amazing because we got to see all 4 of them together again after YG put them on hiatus. But it also was their last performance ever. MAMA has a small video on planning this, and it brought me to tears. YG always has been the rebel too . The founder of YG was from group called Seo Taiji and the boys . He was one of the boys . The group took korean music to modern times and had music that rebel against the government. YG started as a hip hop label and was mostly the house of rappers . Bringing real rappers into kpop. In answer to your question about why the generations are the opposite of Western music evolution: The thing to remember is that BigBang and 2ne1 were inspired by HipHop Western music, in GDragon's case especially WuTang Clan. The CEO of YG was a former member of Seo Taji and the Boys, the first rap Korean group. So they're starting out as rebellious. It has been said that BigBang was the blue print on which all future groups were based, for good or bad. This is why groups have at least 1 member that is a "genius" creatively, 1 member that is a fast/unique rapper, 1 deep voiced rapper, 1 R&B singer, 1 dancer, 1 variety show/mc member, and bonus if you can find an all-rounder like GDragon. So for instance in BTS genius: RM. Unique: Suga. Deeper tone: JHope. R&B: V. Dancer: Jimin. MC: Jin. Bonus points All Rounder: JK. On the bad side, you get contracts that don't allow idols to date, drive cars, go to clubs, or live on their own/with their families. Also, they started trainees younger like GD and Taeyang. All this so they can be controlled more than BigBang was which lead to scandals. Finally, 2ne1the OG girl group includes Park Bom who literally grew up with GD and Taeyang at YG, so there's a lot of affection for her from VIP. The fandom are Blackjacks. There's a lot of mystery around 2ne1 and their "relationship" with YG, the company...including the mismanagement of CL's career, the cruelty to which Park Bom was treated for her "weight" issues, Mitzy abruptly quitting, and Dara and GD's "relationship". You have to understand that companies put a lot of money on trainees that are most likely to debut. So, a setback like getting pregnant is a big blow to a company. YG especially don't charge these trainees a single cent when one ends up dropping out. Unlike other companies, they will held the idol accountable for their losses. But once they begin making money, and the company recovers their investment. The rules become lax. Sandara mentioned that in one of their old interviews. She was the first member to get a chance to date way back in 2012.

GD and Dara's relationship were purely showbiz. Every toxic VIP and conservative Koreans ruined GD's private life because they couldn't accept that GD was in a dating relationship with Kiko, a Korean-Japanese. You can tell that he was happy despite not revealing that relationship openly. Even the toxic fans don't want to acknowledge that the song Untitled 2014 was for her. Fans would dismiss her and brag that the song was for Seungri or TOP. 🤣

@BIGBANG Timeline They began working more often with Teddy in 2012, but it was mostly for arrangement. If we talk about compositions, most of it were from GD's work. Based on their data, the only time Teddy became most involve was for MADE album. He work on composition along with GD, Taeyang, T.O.P and other YG producers.

Yg is supposed to be the hiphop label. They were different and had more freedom compared to the standard kpop group(visuals/good looks/choreography). They focused more on their talent, stage presence and entertainment as you can see from bigbang and 2ne1 and the older labelmates. But with the 3rd wave groups they became more like the standard kpop band
