Receiving the Dutch Free Radio Station 'De Klaverboer' on 1640 kHz.
Bought this radio (Philips L3X14T 1961) at the radiofair of the 'Nederlandse Vereniging voor de Historie van de Radio.'
' My first radio' received only SW/MW/LW. FM was a bridge to far for me in those days.

I live in New Zealand and this radio was the only form of entertainment we had in the late 50's and early 60;s. listening to radio shows home grown and over seas. We lived in an isolated part of the country [Ruamaata, near Taumarunui] with no electricity and very cold winters so sitting at the kitchen table with my older sibblings by the coal range was the highlight of our evenings.

My father got one of these for my mother in 58 when they had a bad auto accident and she was hospitalized for three months. After she was released home, it became mine. Wish I still had it! Great for a teenager at the time.

Thank you so much for your nice story. I saved the money for my radio by delivering a newspaper as a teenager. I lost that radio and bought some years agoo a simular one. All the best from The Netherlands.

It's a gold plate, showing the functions of the buttons. Left to the right: on/of, high or low sound, sw1, mw and lw. Regards!

Yes Yes! this is the one I,ve been looking out for! Bought mine in 1963 when was in the merchant navy docked in Aden. Cost me twenty quid not cheap Japanese radios were a lot cheaper but I,m a Philips fan! Can,t read the info label due to a leaking battery cleaned it all out and converted to use 10volt adapter. One medium wave and three short wave bands make for interesting listening. Mine is grey coloured!

@hjhamer Thinking about it this would have been my first transistor radio too (not that I would have known what a transistor was in those days!) I cleaned my radio up and identified it as an L1X25T. Similar to yours but it is grey and has a selection of seven push buttons three of which are for short wave. I thought this an advantage being at sea at the time I bought it in Aden (as it was then) I mentioned I could have bought Japanese for half the price but had always been a fan of Philips!

What does the silver plate say in front of the white buttons? I recently acquired a similar radio that doesn't have the silver plate and I cannot figure out how to work it. Thanks!
