'My First TV Series' - IT'S A WOMAN'S WORLD Ep 1 (1985) (UPGRADED)

35 years back!! This was the turning point in my journey from Bollywood to Television! It was a bitter-sweet experience! But I learned so much.. and it prepared me for all the TV shows that would come later. To think this was shot in Low-Band - one level better than VHS! White or red were unfilmable - the colours would bleed. We did the first ever chroma in India. So many innovations, experiments and challenges.. in our quest for quality.
Watching it again it still looks good! It's still relevant. Still today.

Blown away by the interview with Rekha. I cannot believe a conversation like this was taking place on National TV in the 80s. Even in 2023 people tend to get offended when a woman makes such statements about women empowerment and feminism. It is women like you and Rekha that have inspired women of today, kudos to both of you for acknowledging the strength of women and the importance of financial independence and not letting any lover/partner/husband force you or coerce you into leaving your career. After watching so many interviews of Rekha, I think she was very ahead of her time in India. Her responses has a "western" undertone and I see why she could come off as intimidating but also very empowering in her relative culture and environment.

@Sirius Neither is everything "western" not advanced nor "eastern" unadvanced. 😇 But I see where the worry and insecurity can stem from when others use the term "western" to highlight a cultural difference and phenomenon they find of value. In this case, my personal bias is that she definitely showcases personal empowerment in the sense that has empowered many western women to take on more leadership roles in the public domain and transcend beyond their traditional gender roles.

I know this is an old comment but why exactly did people protest this show? I don't understand it. Is it because the average indian woman couldn't relate to the glossy looking sets or the topics related to it? From what I understand people tolerated so much more glamour in films back then and Indians have always loved opulence regardless of the era. Why protest it?
