Have a question, I wanna go to med school but I’m still in HS. My idea is to start grasping some concepts and prepare ( learn ) for the MCAT right now,. I saw your videos on how to study and how to score high but since I am currently in HS I can’t process most of the concepts in Bio/Phys/Chem because they don’t teach it. I want to learn but it’s harder for me since I don’t have familiarity since I’m not in college. Any ideas, books, ways to start now? Thanks

The best way you can prepare for anything related to med school (including the MCAT) is by doing well in high school now. Probably not the advice you wanted to hear but hear me out. Self teaching is incredibly inefficient, what you can teach yourself in 5 hours a college professor will be able to teach you in 30 min. There is no need to study for the MCAT now, you need a bachelors degree anyway so hold off until then. Now, the fact that you’re interested in medicine and know that now is amazing! One of the best things you can do to “jump start” the college process is by dual enrollment at a college campus by you. This is a free program that allows high schoolers to take college credit instead of high school classes. Also taking AND acing any AP courses in high school is your best bet. It’s going to boost your GPA and help you to get into a great college. Please keep in mind that when you are applying to med school some schools are finicky about AP classes so please be mindful of that. Check MASR to familiarize yourself with what the general requirements/expectations are in regards to AP courses. My next advice to you is to sign up for scholarships. I didn’t do that and I completely missed the ball on that one. Apply for 3 a week or some schedule like this. Also keep in mind the MCAT is only one portion of a med school application! Don’t become so focused on it that you lose sight of all the other aspects that make you a well rounded applicant. What year are you in high school?
