I do love the flute and it’s repertoire- I’ll never be a good flute player - not to this standard but I do really enjoy the effort. Thank you so much. I have this book.

What you say about using your ear more than your eyes cannot be stressed enough. Just recently I worked with a group and found myself having to transpose on the spot. No one had updated the flute parts. I'm happy to say, because I practice the way you've mentioned, it was not that big a deal since the melodies were easy to memorize, my ears told my fingers what to do.

Hello Mrs.Beynon I always enjoy each video that you post. I have a quick question. For me the French School is an amazing way of performing and this book Taffanel and Gaubert is one of the pillars. I'm curious how I could manage my time for each Taffanel since im guessing that daily is supposed to do the 17 exercises so my question is, how I can manage my time for each exercise and if you have any suggestions on this topic? Have a great day and thanks for so much of your great knowledge ❤

Hi Gabriel - thanks for watching AND for your interesting question! Please don’t try and work on all 17 every day! I would suggest working on one scale and one arpeggio exercise each day... and making a rotation schedule for yourself. Working well on a single exercise will be more effective than trying to cram too many into a day! Happy practising!

I really appreciate your presentations of these books. Does the T&G assume the use of only the standard fingerings, or are there suggestions of special ones to use in some difficult situations (like which Bb or F# fingering, or when left hand harmonics are recommended)? Playing the actual repertoire (e.g., Prokofiev, Shostakovich) often requires going beyond all of this carefully practiced finger work. Looking forward to #5!

Hi Leo - what a great question - thank you! I think that you can practice both ways actually - sometimes with the real fingerings and then also with the 'trick/fake' fingerings. Keep listening to the sound of each; try to make the fake sound real and try to get the real as fast as the fake! Happy practising!

Hello Mrs.Beynon,could you suggest how long to play flute every day if you want to be a flute player? I know piano 8-10hours.Love your videos🌹🌹🌹
@EmilyBeynonflute2 жыл бұрын
Hi James, gosh… that’s an impossible question! I always think that quality is much more important than quantity when it comes to practice. At music college, I think a student should aim for something like 30 hours of instrumental practice a week… but reading, listening… getting inspiration are also very important!

hi! in taffanel no1, for example, when do we use the thumb Bb-key? only when there is a Bb is in the key?
@EmilyBeynonflute Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. I must admit I use the Bb thumb a lot (I find the ‘long’ Bb can be quite noisy & lumpy. But yes, as a guide, when there’s a Bb in the key signature. Let your east guide you = basically when it sounds best (= smoothest fingers)
