She took her husband’s shirt, cut it in two halves, removed the collar and sleeves and sewed herself a completely new warm thing.
To sew yourself a new warm thing, you don’t have to look for new fabric. All you need is to take the flannelette shirt from your husband, especially since he doesn’t wear it anymore because it’s too small. I will use it to make myself a jacket with a hood.
Men's clothing is larger than women's, but since I need a loose style, I left the width as it was. The only exception is that you need to shorten the long sleeve.
To change the style, you will need additional fabric. This may be another suitable thing, the main thing is that the thickness of the fabrics is approximately the same.
I have beige knitwear and that's what I'll use. The idea is this: the top of the shirt will be a different color.
Master Class:
1) First, I cut the shirt into two parts, strips from the right and left shelves, and tore off the excess fabric.
2) Then I removed the sleeves, I will use them again.
3) I cut out two pieces for the front and back from knitwear. For this I used the cut off top of a shirt. I just circled it. I stitched the shoulder and side seams.
4) Then I connected the bottom of the shirt and the jersey top. I stitched them and topstitched them on the front side.
5) I cut out flannelette strips 7 cm wide for the slats. I folded them in half and stitched them to the shelves. The fastener may be different, from a zipper.
6) I tore off the pockets and flaps and prepared for further work.
7) To shorten the length, I cut off excess fabric from the upper part of the sleeves, about 3 cm each. I basted the sleeves to the cardigan and stitched them.
8) I tried on the shirt and marked the places for the pockets. First I stitched the pockets, and then the flaps on top.
Hood:
- Instead of a collar there will be a hood, I cut it out according to this pattern. I stepped back 4 cm in the corners and swept out loops for the cord to enter. I turned up the edge of the hood and stitched a drawstring.
- Attached the hood to the shirt.
- I basted the loops to the placket and sewed on the buttons. Now the clasp is turned to the other side.
- I inserted a cord into the drawstring.
Ready.
Fitting.
An old men's shirt has turned into a universal item that can be either a men's or a women's wardrobe item.
