Ahh, the joys of trucking! Never a dull moment. But hey, look at it this way... if you replace enough parts, you wind up with a whole new truck!

Diesel doesn't really need an alternator, once its started don't stop. Only if you were running with lights on you'd run the batteries down.

Only on the old engines, new electronic engines need voltage for the computer. Once below about 10 volts systems go down.

Lost my Refer? In the middle of Nevada! Pulled over, and a roadside ! Mechanic elderly fella? I explained I blew the serpentain belt? He laughed! No we don't have a Thermo- king belt? I said? Do you have a 60s fan belt? I'll look? Huuumm? I do? I said; how much? He said; 20 bucks! Ok! Now the refer, has a temp recorder? In 25 minutes, I installed, the Caddy belt! Boom! Just sayin! Good Luck! Wing it! God Loves Truckers!😍

I know how you feel, sort of! I was driving from the north of Scotland to London in the UK a few years back when the radiator in my old car started to go very wrong - it was the original one! Resorted to winding down all the windows and putting the heater on full on any slight incline. I got home but was sweating, mentally and physically. Seeing it was January I got quite a few strange looks, driving down the motorway with all my windows down! Anyway, it made the trip memorable and I got a new radiator fitted a week or so later!

Truck on 12V battery set up. Isn't 24V more normal. And it is Diesel. So you are only using the battery for ancillaries and starting. The biggest issue is the cooling fan. Especially loaded. Good job it was cold.
@callthemall11 ай бұрын
In Canada 12v is still the norm. And yeah the biggest draw on the batteries is definitely the starter, but then lights and ecm are the biggest constant draws

Get them both..the idler and the tensioner....wow your cat dealer doesn't have the parts.....total bullshit. Sorry bud everything has gone to shit with parts and service..just replace the tensioner too to avoid other issues.. grab the fan blade and make sure the fan clutch bearings are not getting sloppy. Horton had alot of issues with the bearings. I have done alot where the fan launched into the rad from fan hub failure
